Why am i being gimped?

Why do certain quests drop the player's level?, the forgotten vault quest dropped me to level 21 and a couple of the harper quests in Neverdeath dropped me to level 30.

If a player is struggling with a particular quest i.e the forgotten vault or the harper quests then obviously they are going to come back when much stronger only to find out their effort thrown back them.

Well, I have been in many games that did not have Battle-Leveling, and in them the following happens...

The mighty dragon aproaches the group of Level-30 Adventurers.
They prepare for a fierce battle!
In strolls a single, solitary, Level-70 D-Bag...and kills the Beast with one hit.

    Very anti-climactic.

For the record I hate the way the tyranny of dragon campaign is structured. The first reward is a lvl 26 cape, but I was lvl 65 by the time I finished it because of the 20 hour timer and the repeat 3 times requirement.

Downscaling is fine. I think they did it to keep high lvl players from carrying others. You're still considerably stronger thanks to you're gear and abilities. Upscaling is kind of annoying like in the ghost stories and vault of the nine quest.

but the dragon fight doesn't trigger the downlevelling of the player, it's specific quests that the player is doing at the time in that area. I've fought the dragon before doing those quests and never got downlevelled despite being level 37 on one char and 33 on another.

Another note is that the player is not warned of this mechanic until they do those quests, nor is it mentioned anywhere in the official wiki for those quests or any other level-restricted quests.

The First Dragon I met (Charthraxis) is a level 39 Heroic Encounter.
When I get battle-leveled (up or down) I have noticed that I get a little System Message in my chatbox saying "Heroic" something-or-other.
There are whole Maps that are battle-leveled...like the Sharandan (or however it is spelled) levels me down to level 66.
And that is a campaign map, not just a mission.

It was a design choice, nothing more.
They wanted groups of people, and even just people sharing the same space (in some places) to be on a relatively even playing field.

I still like it better than having one idjit 40 levels higher than the area I am in coming in a killing everything before I even get to draw my weapon. (lol)
But, that doesn't mean everybody has to like it.
    To each their own. ;)

The nerf doesn't really stop high geared/stat players. I've seen people on Xbox blast dragons to death with 4 or 5 hits. I don't like the nerf because usually I'm built higher at say level 30 than the fake level 30. I used to be able to solo Ghost Stories before the changes

Certain areas of the game will uplevel or downlevel you depending. All the leveling dungeons will downlevel you if you are well above the level. All the Tyranny of Dragons areas will downlevel you. The Stronghold will uplevel you to 70. This is not a bug, it's a feature.
My opinions are my own. I do not work for PWE or Cryptic. - Forum Rules - Protector's Enclave Discord - I play on Xbox

A level 70 even once dropped to the required/forced level will still make short work of the dragons in all of the leveling zones with the dragons present, it was more of a mod 4-5 thing for PC, and xbox. Now there isn't the greatest need to do it, since there's been better ways to get the supplies past the newer content, depending how you go about things of coarse . The reason why you'll notice there's level 60 artifact weapons that are not worth it since they're out of date compared to the newer ones at 70, Stronghold weapons n' Twisted Weapons. etc.

As others have said, you are down-leveled for some basic character elements, but since you keep your gear, powers, and as far as I know your attributes you have a pretty big advantage over the folks who are level appropriate.

Yep getting levelled to 50 in 3 man temple of spider, you are still able to solo everything with ease - certainly in comparison to people who are actually at level 50 - lol
