Black Dragon Ioun (Epic) Vs FIre Archon (Epic)

imabigdawgimabigdawg Member Posts: 36 Arc User
Hey guys, I just bought a epic fire archon and equiped him with two Bonding Stones and an Empowered Stone and some rings.. (Cant afford a talisman, looks like there about 5 million)... I am trying to figure out the best action to play these two. I am trying to figure out if i am soloing if its better to cruise around witht he fire archon... and if im grouped in a dungeon or something then i switch to my black dragon ioun.. Below are the stats equppied with each one..

Level 70 GWF (PvE).. Item Level 2,733

WIth Black Dragon Ioun;
Power: 16,543
Critical: 12,192
Armor Pen: 7,284
Defense: 7,794

With Fire Archon:
Power: 14,318
Critical: 9,900
Armor Pen: 7,284 (70 percent)
Defense: 7,794

So if you guys could tell me which one i should be cruising around with that would be great... I look at the Black Dragon Ioun stats and im like DAMN that blows it outta the water.. lol

But then i think the FIre Archon has that Proc (Should i buy another Bonding Runestone? That would be 3 instead of the two i own...)
Also, the damage the fire Archon does in general with his fire spell isnt very BREATH-TAKING lol..

Just wanted to put this out there and see what you all recommend.

Thanks!

The short answer is obviously to take the archon but only if your bonding stones are high enough (and yes you need 3 of them)

An ioun gives you 100% of the stats you put in them but 3 bondings will give you at:
    rank 7 - 60% of stats
    rank 8 - 105%
    rank 9 - 150%
...all the way to rank 12 - 285%

I won't mention the current thing where you can get multiple times this value as it's going to be nerfed changed so you only get the stated values.

But yes, once at rank 8 you should go with the companion then level the stones to as high as you can.

Edit - people do not run with companions for their damage etc, it's all about the stats given by the bonding stones.

Ok thanks. So i shouldn't be using the Black Dragon Ioun? Even though my stats on it are MUCH higher then if i had the fire archon equipped... For example, even if the three bonding runestones PROC, it doesnt look like the stats are nearly as much they would be with the dragon ioun. (I understand because they are not rank 12 yet).. However, would'nt it be better to do the constant damage with the stats i already have (dragon ioun) then have the fire archon (which only procs at certain times, and when it does it still doesnt get me as high as the stats i would have with the Ioun?)

Keep your augment until you get three rank 9 (greater) bonding stones. Right now (this will change when we get the "new" bonding mechanic), bonding uptime is 20 out of every 30 seconds, so you basically multiply the resultant percentage by 2/3 to get an "effective" number.

With two rank 8 bondings, you get 70% of your companion's stats 2/3rds of the time, for an effective percentage of about 45%. Not good compared to your augment (100% all the time).

With three rank 9 bondings, you get 150% of your companion's stats 2/3rds of the time, for an effective percentage of 100% (equal to your augment), and an extra body that does a little extra DPS and soaks up the occasional hit from something that may have killed you.

Thanks A lot.. so THREE rank 9's then start using the Fire Archon?? your saying three bonding stones will equal my stats (with the ioun? correct)

read what @armadeonx said, but yeah R9+ would be the greatest option, with a legendary comp for more of a boost depends on what ya want to focus on. :P

So it appears we get Alliances in two weeks, which has the new bonding mechanic. With that, the 20/30 uptime issue goes away, so your break even with an augment should soon be three rank 8 bonding stones.

when the companions gift procs... do i share ALL of the stats it has... for example, when it procs, do i just get the str buff... or the crit buff.. or do i get it all? sometimes when i look at my stats when it procs, my crit doesnt move up.. then sometimes it does... (sorry trying to figure that out)...

Can you explain what you mean by the 20/30 uptime? what do you mean it goes away and what will happen ?

    a. you get all the stats

    b. currently they give you stats for 20 seconds but refresh every 30 so u have 10 secs down time. After the change they stay up so you have full "up time" meaning that 3 x rank 8 bondings will give you slightly more value than an ioun stone.

Personally I think they should improve iouns too or they are going to become even more pointless than they are at present.

What Ioun stones with artifact equipment? That would be crazy overpowered though!

They could also drop the price of them by 50% and it would guaranteed that lower geared players (or someone wanting to have an okay alt without spending much ad) would buy thousands of themm.
