Data GB usage from Neverwinter

j35t3r199j35t3r199 Member Posts: 120 Arc User
Hi, I have had to monitor my DATA, as I get 300GB a month from my isp. I have 2 sons, one who watches videos, and the other plays Neverwinter with me. My wife doesn't do much besides browse the internet ( a few videos not in HD.) Now in the last 6 days my older son has been out almost every day with friends (so maybe 5-10 videos in 6 days, all of which are viewed in 480 or under,yes I check), my wife is non existent online, and my younger son and I have been playing neverwinter. I play about 4-5 hours a day, and he caps out at 2 maybe a bit more if he is lucky. We have gone thru 120 GB's of data in those 6 days. Now we do have 2 xboxes and play together, but 120GB's? even if you take off 20-30 for my other son that is a shittonne of data for an online game no??? Can Neverwinter patch in options to turn down graphics or something? At reddit they mentioned that the voice acting you hear is streamed each and everytime from online? Or that the cutscenes or changing instances/locations etc use a motherload??? Can anything be done about this as my ISP charges a lot for DATA.

    Been a long time since I or anyone I know has had an internet package with a monthly cap, Honestly with how games are going now especially online ones I would strongly recommend you switch ISP to a new one with unlimited usage. I'm guessing you would enjoy the game more then knowing you do not have to worry about usage each time you are playing.

    I play this game a lot. Approx 5-6 hours per weekday and most of my awake hours on weekends. I do not go through anywhere near that much. Last month I used 190gb in the whole month (this appears to be my lowest dl in the last 6 months). This includes game downloads, 2 x kids videos, netflix and the like.

    I do not believe 120gb in 6 days can be mainly as a result of NW. I average about 6gb per day. 6gb x 6 days x 2 people = 72gb if you used the same usage as me.

    This game doesn't use much data from the numbers I'm looking at. I show an average of about 30GB/month, so roughly 1GB/day. I play around 7hrs/day throughout the week, & probably around 12-16hrs/day on the weekends.

    I'm not in your household, but clearly way more data usage is going on than what your aware of.

    If you want to see how much data your XBOX is using:
    - Go to settings
    - Network, then network settings
    - Click bandwidth usage

    This will give you an idea of what your XBOX is using on a monthly basis, so go from there to determine where all your data is being used up

    Just to throw out some ideas/thoughts:
    - Maybe start limiting your kids & kids friends data usage, & see if any major changes occur
    - Is it possible you downloaded some games in those 6 days?
    - Change the password to your router, & only give it to family
    - Maybe your ISP is trying to scam extra money out of you

    Simply put, 120GB in 6 days isn't happening while playing Neverwinter, so your data is being used up somewhere else

    It does sound like something else is using your network. You should note the mac addresses of all hardware in your house and regularly check/compare those listed on your router.

    If you see one not on your list then someone else has accessed your wifi.

    Your wifi security type should be WPA2, definitely not WEP. Change your password to at least 10 characters and include numbers and symbols.

    Edit - check the wifi data usage on all smart phones in the house too...

    Hopefully. Your router should have a list of all devices it has leased IP addresses to, that's what I normally check first if I am suspicious.

    No offense Jester, but u should re-read ur original post...everything I mentioned was NOT in ur original post. If ur referring 2 the post above mine, the posts r out of order. My post came shortly after @satniteeduardo when I posted it, so u responded 2 MY post, but whatever. Read my post, then read ur post right above it...u clearly responded 2 it. U might remember if it didn't take u a few days 2 respond. Ur only other post also has NOTHING about what I posted

    Next time, dnt call me out when ur "supporting evidence" doesn't back u up

    Need a refresher?

    * OP - U talk about how ur family uses data, & does NW really use so much data
    * 2nd - U talk about ISP's in Canada
    * 3rd - U respond 2 my post
    * 4th - U call me out, & thank another poster 4 something I said

    Like I said...whatever. We've all made it obvious ur data is being consumed elsewhere

    TY, YW, & have a good day

    I play with a 30gb data cap from verizon. I play this game constantly and use about 20 to 30gb in a month. That's with random Facebook use and some other things. So I can say for sure it's not neverwinter.

    Most online games don't use much data. Destiny has been the worst for using data and that's mainly from pvping.

    Some day maybe Time warner cable will come the 2 miles to my house and the neighbors around me, but I won't hold my breath.
