Permabubble, how much is too much recovery?

rhadamathysrhadamathys Member Posts: 310 Arc User
I'm at 7 k base now, and with my companion procing it gets to 10-12k. Anyone know when the roi starts making it not worth investing in? Anyone have a super high value? If so what are your thoughts?

Bubble Pally is my main, I'm not claiming to be an expert... just interested in adding my experiences to this thread.

I have had Recovery over 8k and could almost perma bubble. The only things that would slow me down were stuns and getting frozen. I did have some problems with dps, especially when soloing so I switched out some of the silvery to darks for the armor penetration. I was doing a ton more damage, but my recovery was down around 6K.

I could tell a difference in bubbles, but only a little. I was about a second (guess) off on bubbles so split the difference to get around 7K after my companion's gift. The big issue is still AP gain which went down from the mid 40's% to 35%.

So really, it wasn't recovery as much as Action Point gain, imo. If you have a snail mount (I do not) then you have a big advantage when selecting enchantments to balance out damage vs. recovery. Also, Thyan Book Of The Dead is another great artifact to have, if you have the means.

With Mythic Devoted Sigil, Legendary Lostmauth Neck, Snail, Justice tree, and Sharandar Boon I am able to perma bubble with less then 3k recovery. The only time I have problems is when getting stunned and stuff like that. For those situations, I love my Transcendent Elven Battle. The only thing I have to really worry about is AP drain and every paladin, no matter what their recovery is, has to worry about these things.

So I'd like to get to point where I can run bane over avengers and oath over smite, which is difficult to do as bane doesn't proc ap and oath requires faster Templars to keep up with damage taken...those 2 spells make life easier for dps...problem is I'm not recharging fast enough to run them without a haste cleric...my question is if others are and what their recovery is...I think I can squeeze out another 2-3k recovery but need to know if it is worth it...I'm ultimately playing this toon as a group quester so I want to maximize dps for others and not need a cleric or, if there is a dc, let them spec debuff and not worry about me

The purpose of higher recovery is for our encounters like keeping binding oath up, not for the bubble.

@rhadamathys it sounds like this is what you are trying to figure out. Check out the last post by @thefabricant in this thread:

I think that will answer your question.

People want more recovery because they think that it will help keep the bubble up. Recovery helps refresh your encounters so you can speed up the AP gain on the bubble. I'm just saying you don't need a whole lot of recovery if you don't want to spec for it. You can keep your bubble up and keep up the temporary HP from Templars Wrath through items and proper stat allocation.

You spec for protection once you reach lol 30, it's a paragon path.
