Returning player, very confused

thecrowleythecrowley Member Posts: 51 Arc User
Hello,

So I'm just coming back after being away for a long time, few months after release is when I last played I think. I have tons of questions about everything but I would first of all like some advice from players on the new classes?

First, I like tanking and in addition to my rogue main I had a Guardian Fighter. I'm wondering how does this play compared to a Paladin? They didn't exist back then and they sure look interesting. Any info from actual players would be great

Second, I see they've released a Warlock type as well, how would this one compare to casters in other games in terms of style and damage output?

I suppose the rest of the main stuff I'll figure out as I go along and I want to start a new character just to get into again, but any general tips would also be appreciated

Regarding the tank - at the moment the Paladin wins hand down unless its a high level IL group looking for the buffs from a GF. But the permabubble paladin is just about to get nerfed and the GF is just about to get buffed, so it's looking like GF's are going to be favoured shortly -I'd stick with the GF but I might be biased.

My main is a GF (IV Tactician buffer) and its always been my favourite to play in Dungeons (I also have a TR, CW & DC). I'd recommend either tactician or conqueror, so if your a protector I'd say either respect or delete and re-reroll (depending on what level you are). You probably still have all the boons to grind out before your running end game dungeons, so DPS should be considered as its boring doing dailies on a tank specced GF.

Guardian fighter is the way to go, pve protector or tatician, protector is awesome useful because of the melee debuff on target, but not necessarly for you, for your team, i have a tatcian and watch people die because the 50% from KV + 15% from feats are not enough, that's the pro of protector, tatician is very good as well, it doesnt apply the debuff but it grants ap to nearbie alies and those alies may use that ap from protection or dps, the problem is, they need to know how to use it, that's why you feel the diference from protector when team starts dying, conqueror can be viable but not very party friendly, if you decide to go there and not take tatician feats for damage reduction on alies you are murdering them.

Ok... so one of you says protector is useless and should be deleted, the other says it's fine

Protector might be the best tanking GF, but it has no DPS and that is going to make it god awfully boring to level up and get all your boons.

also some people are struggling to tank Orcus (in CN) with a Iron Vanguard GF, so if your respeccing maybe consider going Swords Master for Steel Defence. Having said that I'm finding Orcus challenging but OK on my IV

Ah ok, yeah I'm just gonna pick Conq for lvling I think and swap to protector as I get into endgame. Also find being full tank in PvP kind of hilarious since people will just keep beating on you forever without doing any damage. Sure you can't really kill someone but it's funny and it helps the team, somewhat at least  Not sure how that is in Neverwinter but we shall see

Protector is fine with selected Tactician feats.
Tactician is better party buff. DC AP nerf is underway, so people will look for "GF AP" soon.
    EX-DL-BtS / ITF-KC-KB / BF-HD-IBS / FtF-IT-ST-Dis / CA-GW-PG

Hmpf, sounds elitist and min/max heavy, but hey, I can play that game

They are all good. Con - decent damage, a great off tank. prot - good tank overall with better damage than the tact but worse than the con, tact - good tank with great party buffs. Con is the only way to lvl btw. the others are painful!!!!!!!!!!!
