For future maintenance sessions

While it was nice that there was something at all posted while the forums were offline and servers were down, I have to say it was pretty underwhelming what actually got put out there on twitter and facebook. At least as I write this, you won't see any status change (server maint in progress) since the initial posting.

At a minimum it would be nice to see:
  1. Pre maint announced 24-48 hrs beforehand
  2. Maint has begun
  3. Some on sched / behind sched / ahead of sched progress report near the expected halfway point
  4. We're Done! Announced so people know they can log in

    Seconding this, it's how most game developers seem to work and it would be nice to see the same here.

    They did all of that. They even told us about it 2 weeks ago lol.

    Before their maintenance announcement, they reported on Twitter that they were aware that their site was down. If I had to guess, something broke (hardware) that needed immediate attention and that was the reason for the longer than usual maintenance. In other words, it was likely not a planned outage.

    No, the maintenance was supposed to be 12hrs, as per their MANY posts and announcements. It actually got done 5hrs early.

    they announced the maintenance a week ago. Everyone knew it was gonna be down. why the complaining when people knew when, and how long it would be down. And on twitter they announce when maintenance begins and when its back up. Wow, always gotta complain about something. LOL

    I say this because if someone was not aware and went to the website to see what was going on, the official site directed them to the twiiter and facebook feeds. Both of which, as stated, were pretty lean on actually updating people. I get it if you don't want to throw a lot of manpower at maintaining a social media presence during an update, but cheez, don't redirect someone to a page if you don't put anything new on it...

    The point was, that they announced it was happening over a week prior to it happening. plus it has been at the top of this forum for that same amount of time.

    In general, we do look to provide additional updates as they come in. Since this was more of a special case, there were a lot of moving pieces, so we didn't provide that much information. I'll make sure we note this in the future though! More than happy to share more information when we can.

    Thanks! I really feel like that will go a long ways in keeping the dialog more positive if people get a better sense of what is happening (and help to remind them of the presence of real people on the other end) :p
