Suggestion to slow down website spam

ausdacityausdacity Member Posts: 2 Arc User
Hey guys, I think you need to ban the word .com from the game it would it would make it look like jibberish, also if you have someone monitor the trade chat for a few hours to block those website spams, it would help the game out a lot. There are 3-4 different websites now. Yes you could speak to Microsoft and have those Xbox banned from the game but the easy solution is to bann the word .com and monitor trade chat please :) also put a mail box in each area ;) haha

It will not help. The spammer/scammers simply change to .c()m or .c0m or other variations. Banning www causes stuff like \/\/ \/\/ \/\/, in others words its all been done before. Banning the consoles is the only thing that may work.

Such filters are a bit ineffective. The PC version has an ever growing anti-spam filter which has forced bot spam to look really odd but they just find new holes in the detection system.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to link to websites so the filter would not limit anything followed by .com. Additionally I have played games with such filters and it became more or less second nature to say Google.moc instead of Google.com.

However, from what rumors I have heard the filter is not something Cryptic has a ton of control over in Xbox. I have to ask for further details but it might not be as simple as it is to update on the PC from the trickle of information I have seen.

Filing a report direct to MS is the only way ultimately to do this.
Take the time to file against their profile and fill in the comments as to why the report.
Enough of us doing that and eventually they will start monitoring and bricking their XBONES :)

When they have bought two dozen Bricks they will get the message :)

I watched the Trade chat for 5mins last night literally all I saw was website spam. I think we as a community need to just move to somewhere else other than the Protectors Enclave. That way all the spam bots could stay in the enclave and we can just go about our business elsewhere.

Edit: I guess anywhere would do, except for WoD since it has a 10k gs minimum to enter.

They show up in WOD too sorry to say :(

Really? I have NEVER seen the spam anywhere else except for the Enclave. Maybe it was someone trolling and posting it in there once or twice.

Put a real person in charge of monitoring the public chat channels. Have them skip from instance to instance (perhaps in the back end) and examine the current chat buffers and ban those that are spamming. If the auto system is too complex and slow to update use a human being as we are great at spotting spam like this. Do this for a while and the spammers will likely give up and go away.

As far as the chat, they filter out got and it's not and other things (although yes you can get around them). They should just filter out all the periods and anything that has the letters ocm near each other or symbols / ?\ ^ @ ! * and so on. And a person who can just kick from game anyone advertising these sites.

Not that I'd expect that to happen. So what else. Well this won't happen either, but everyone in game needs to report the users in-game for being offensive. Everyone, every time. Then on XBL, opening up their profile and reporting them for voice communication (close enough) and optionally blocking them so you don't see it. If everyone reported them in the game to the game and on their profile every time, something might come of it. The only way to really get rid of this is to make it not worth it because of too little a response and too much trouble to get around for that too little a response.

Has a community manager or anyone from the development team addressed the community in regards to this issue yet? I recently submitted this support ticket to Perfect World:

Customer By Web Form 08/09/2015 03:15 AM
At first the website spammers kept it in trade chat, so it was easy enough to ignore. Block the trade chat channel. Now they've moved it to zone chat as well, and they spam CONSTANTLY. You can't carry on a conversation or take part in any meaningful dialogue due to this form of harassment. It is out of control and needs to be policed by administration. Every time I block an individual gamer account, a new one pops up to take its place. These accounts need to start getting banned permanently. Please help, this is really affecting the Neverwinter community in a very negative way. I have attached a screenshot in case you are not familiar with how these spambot accounts will fill the entire chat log with their website spam.

Today I received the following response from TwylaBite, Game Master at Perfect World Entertainment:

    Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. If you would like to speak more on the matter, please feel free to open a thread on our Neverwinter Xbox forums.

    http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums#/categories/neverwinter

    Have a good day!

I would have rather seen something like, "We are working hard to solve this problem--we are aware of it and are discussing the best solution for it" or something along those lines. Instead, I was directed here to the forums.

So yes, TwylaBite, I would like to speak more on this issue. Specifically, does PWE recognize the website spambots as problematic? If so, what is being done to eliminate it? Your customers would certainly appreciate a response. If one has already been given in another forum, please point me in the right direction.

    Thank you.
