Hunter Ranger`s skill Oak Skin

I`ll try here instead, I have made a thread in the X1 forum, a thread in the PC forum and also in a potential bug list all with no replies but plenty of views.

Can someone please tell me if Oak Skin is bugged, the description states it raises "defences" but when I use the skill my Defence stat does not actually increase.

Is this a visible buff or is the description wrong and it does not actually buff defence?

I`ve asked on the PC forum if Oak Skin raises their defence when used but no-one replied there either.

On PC I´ve never seen an incease of my defense too.

So if its supposed to raise defences of yourself and your team I wonder if its not working as intended or its a buff that just does not register on the stats?

I`d like someone who works on the game to answer this in case it is a bug... I`m also surprised its not really been noted or mentioned until now lol.

If it does not actually raise Defence then the skill is a lot worse than people think

Amazing - 3 threads, 4 posts, over 200 views between them on PC, Bugs and X1 forums and just the 1 reply.

Honestly people cant tell me this has not been noticed until now with Oak Skin? Especially as its been out on the PC for a long time now etc.

What about Dev`s and people who work on the game? Do they come on here and respond to people`s posts etc and view these possible bugs?

It might not even be a bug and Oak Skin does raise defence but I don't know how we are supposed to tell without a visible rise in the Defence stat.

I don´t use it anyway, working or not. In fact, nobody, I know, uses it. So, I think, no one cares about^^

I use it and to great effect

It will instantly reset my Ranged Encounters when in a group of 3 or more, plus Binding Shot hits like a truck (with Grasping Roots) when AotS stacks are in play with Deft Strikes etc.

Just pop it in game and check the buff bar on you and nearby team mates if it adds a buff it is working. Not sure of the symbol as I don't use it.

Yes there is a symbol, the healing and regen work but I want to know how it supposedly buffs defences?

Bump as no response what-so-ever from admins/devs/mods etc, is Oak Skin bugged or is the description wrong?

Or does it buff your defence but just does not show it visually on the number stats screen?

Bumping is prohibited, so please refrain from doing so. If you feel there is a bug, I urge you to please file a bug report in the game.

In a personal note, I don't play an HR, so I don't really know if this is bugged or not. I will try to find out for you if I have time.

How does the HR skill Oak Skin raise defences??? Like the in-game description states?

Is it bugged? Is it supposed to raise defence but does not? Does it raise defence but not show it in the stats screen?

Someone, anyone associated with the game PLEASE give me an answer.

this is really the stupiest thing i tested in my whole life...it can be done in literally 10 seconds....

no boost 6400 (7169) ( 10.7% DR )
boost active 6043 (7624) (20.7% DR)

leave the stat screen alone 99% of stuffs dont get added there

I do not see how it is stupid to test if you seem to be the only one who can actually come up with an answer, if you are not looking at the stat screen where are you getting those figures from?

My DR does not change on the stats screen but then you said not to look there, where am I supposed to be looking for these figures you have quoted?

From your above post Oak Skin would raise DR by 10%? That is actually pretty huge!

xbox doesnt have a combatlog? a resume of what is happening in the chat log?
btw i wouldnt say 10% its good and the heal is awful, like 5k hp when mine are like 130k hp. fox cunning/shift usually do the trick better.

Oak Skin is fantastic and very under-rated I`m glad more people do not use it more often. Yes the heal is minimal but the Encounter Spam means its perm healing even during combat. Mine heals me for 900-1000 HP a tick and I very rarely have to use a potion of any type.

I also found a tactic in certain places (like the LoL boss or SoT boss), at certain times you can use Fox`s Cunning, switch and use Oak Skin, switch and use Fox`s Cunning, switch Oak Skin. Due to being in group using Oak Skin would refresh my Ranged Encounters Instantly (maybe a 1-1.5seconds wait), this tactic is useful for when the boss is about to use his AoE and you are not quite back at Fox`s Cunning in your rotation, you can skip a part of your rotation and use Oak Skin then Fox`s Cunning would be ready to use straight away.

You can use this tactic using a different Melee Team Buff Encounter power, but there are no decent ones and none of them have Strong Grasping Roots on the Ranged side of things. The Ranged version of Oak Skin (Binding Shot) is an amazing skill, it has huge crits, strong roots and a lot of tick damage which can also be crits, it can also hit more than one enemy and its easy to position yourself to do this.

Also Oak Skin/Binding Shot both skills are EXTREMELY fast to use and thus the 6 power rotation is a lot quicker than some other skills.

Anyhoo thank you for your input and answers dude, I am a complete idiot, I have never actually used the combat log on there. I set my chat to Guild and that has been that ever since, I actually completely forgot about it. That would have helped me sooooooo much when I did a lot of number testing etc a while back ha ha. I`ll have a look at that combat log when I am online shortly

just a note I also switch out Binding Shot/Oak Skin for Constricting Arrow if there is a decent healer in the group or depending on the situation, even if the healing is considered minimal I`ve actually walked out of a dungeon with over 2million healing in the leaderboards which is not exactly a small number

Obviously Clerics etc do a better job by like 1000% ha ha.

i probably should test it more too with 4 points in it, maybe its even better.

4k defense + oak skin + trans feytouch its a lot of dr

Ok so I checked last night, there is no way for us to check those numbers you posted on the X1. I put all channels on and there was no-where for me to check DR had risen like you suggested.

Did you test on the PC then?

you should have something like

Yes I know how to do Math, but if there is no math in the 1st place I`m not sure how I was supposed to work it out lol.

I do not have the game on the PC or even a PC so there is no way I could have found out the details you posted without asking... many times in various places I might add

Also are your numbers actually right? They seem off to me...

Is the 1st number your defence? If so it seems lower with boost active (I presume Boost Active is Oak Skin)?

What are the numbers in brackets after the 1st number if the 1st number is defence? So what is the 7169 and 7264?

When I use Oak Skin the only thing it shows me in the combat log box is the amount of healing it gives, nothing else

I got near an enemy and let him attack me.
The first number is the damage i received. The second the damage i should receive without defense.
(Number2 - number1)/(number2) is the the number you are looking for

The top numbers are without Oak Skin in play, the bottom numbers are with Oak Skin active. All numbers were obtained from a level 73 Hunting Drake in WoD using Ice Spit on me.

Some of the Oak Skin numbers are really low and sometimes they are not so low, I`m wondering if Oak Skin adds to your deflect as well.

Below I have some numbers much more consistent against a level 73 Black Dragon Claw in WoD.

Oak Skin is Amazing, I don't understand why people do not use it more lol. DR increase of slightly over 10% and a little bit 5-10% for the team, perm regen of almost 10k a tick in some instances (mines up to 947)... even during combat, also for your team but minimal and not worth thinking about.

Reset`s your Ranged Encounter timers if used in a group of 3 or more (depending on your recovery can be a group of 2). Very fast to use, the ranged side of it is Strong Grasping Roots which hits like a truck if paired with Aspect of the Serpent etc, can also hit more than 1 target with strong roots. Ranged is also extremely fast to fire off.

The Ranged version, Binding Shot, if you hit 1 target 1st... then hit a 2nd target with Hindering Shot, Hindering Shot will damage both targets instead of one, also roots.

Because of the perm regen you very rarely have to use a potion, I have stacks and stacks of them. Paired with Life-Steal at 10% and a boon to regen 20000 HP (including a 4000 defence buff) it all adds to survivability

Yes but once everything is controlled and you reach something aboutt 20% lifesteal you wont needed it...

Ah yes once lifesteal gets that High I imagine I will change my build again.... 1500hrs with my HR and I have lost count how many respect tokens I have used
