To Attract More Anime Gamers, Playing Sword Art Online by Proxy as a Foundry Quest

Hi All!! :)

I'm a relative MMO newbie so if my suggestion sounds vanilla just whack me!! :D

Even though there's no finished Swordcraft -- er, I mean Sword Art Online MMORPG yet, lots of SAO fans wish to get as close to the feel of battling its floor bosses as close to the floor level boss type and sequence as you can on plain 3-D MMOs till VRMMORPGs come around (and someone upgrades NW for that!) :D

Since you can't go wrong doing anything to attract new players, by using Neverwinter's Foundry, why can't one recreate SAO floor bosses by using whatever similar Bosses there are in Neverwinter? Are there any Neverwinter monsters that resemble those in SAO by looks or levels? Couldn't the storyline work itself as a NW one as well? After all, I've had some great fun playing some re-imagined "Alice In Wonderland"-like foundry quests that seem to get by well enough.

I'd try to foundry this myself except I'm too new and non-techie and low-level at this and just don't know enough Neverwinter bosses which to use (I even accidentally deleted my 1st free Man At Arms companion after just having him for 5 minutes! :( ), but I'd love to assist and support anyone with the sharps to pull off something like this, even if one can only play it in stages as a work in progress!

Take Well & Care!

The weeaboo is stronk in this OP.

Well, people can do whatever they **** well please with the Foundry as far as I'm concerned. Though I suspect someone may be rather overestimating the popularity of their fave series...

My grandmother used to coin a popular saying that if you can't say something nice and useful then say nothing. I know it's supposed to be an open-minded "discussion," but negatives are a dime a Baker's dozen, really. Open for pleasant positives, please.

I have never heard of Sword Art Online, so I had to do a little digging.

I must say that it's pretty neat, if you ask me. The plot reminds me of a cross between Tron and Phantasy Star with a bad of The Matrix thrown in for good measure.

With all of that being said, while you can CREATE anything that you want in the Foundry, I believe that Cryptic might have some sort of clause regarding the recreation of copyrighted material, and the story, of course, just doesn't "fit."

Of course, the underlying premise of the story could easily be adapted to a classic D&D scenario, in which the alternate planes of existence (astral, ethereal, et cetera) are the medium of imprisonment. Or maybe even put a "Cell" or "Dreamscape" like twist on it where the players would need to enter the mind of a notoriously vile and ruthless antagonist (ever wonder what a Beholder's mind looks like?) to free imprisoned minds. That's the direction that I would go with this idea, as the original idea in it's current form just seems too far removed to adequately be recreated in its entirety.

There are many genres and stories that I would love to recreate in the Foundry, particularly Death's Gate, for instance. The problem is that the Foundry, as it currently stands, is purely a labour of love, as the Devs have basically pushed it into obscurity with their updates and changes (and lack thereof for the Foundry). Its been all but made nonexistent in the name of exploit ability; it can't give players ANY RP, profession nodes, loot worth even identifying, or XP worth the effort. So the amount of players that run Foundry quests are slim to none, and the Foundry authors are becoming slimmer and slimmer as well. There is a dedicated core of intelligent and decent authors and players, but when the "masses" do get into the Foundry, they usually rip the Authors down every chance they get with negative reviews, particularly over the aforementioned mechanics that Authors have NO control over (like loot). To this day, ignorant fools continue to give Foundry quests one-star reviews on the grounds of "da lewt sux" (and those are some of the NICER reviews). In addition to that, the Foundry was one of the major selling points of this game initially during development and after launch, but no more. The name of the game now is the accumulatuon (or outright purchase) of arbitrary numbers that mean nothing to the logic, setting, or core of the game in order to be "competative." Using an almost nonexistent feature to attract new players to the game would yield minimal results at best.

Aside from all of that, I think it's a great idea! :-)

If you want anime, the Elsword forums are over that way. I suspect most people here would rather this game contine to remain a D&D game.

It'd be nice if this game actually WAS a D&D game, much less remain one. Putting an "Infinity" emblem on a Kia doesn't make the Kia any closer to being an Infinity than this game is to being a D&D game.

The foundry doesn't support bosses, or skins like SAO, or flying. Sadly, it isn't going to happen in NW

    Hi All! :)

I thank those for answering my question here and on PM and straightening me out on some issues here. Of course I never expected anyone to even render close any passable SAO game within a thousand light-years here, just something that tastes familiar enough with SAO's boss/floor gameplay to tie one over till the real thing (the MMORPG, not the VRMMORPG --Wish!!) comes by. I didn't realize just remotely imitating SAO's layout here was so daunting due lack of the needed Foundry tools, but I'm glad you all enlightened me without crushing hope and I look forward to meeting a kind Obi-wan mentor like you somewhere in-game because I think I'm reaching level 25 just by sheer fluke flailing luck or a friendly GM Lord looking down on me! :) Phew!! Like just how do you level 60+ Gods get there??? :D

    Take well and care all!
