For the Aura of Solitude, allies within 30' are counted. If the number is 0 then you get a buff.
Augment companions don't count. Fighting companions do.
Normal NPC's do not count. NPC's that can fight do.
Players in or out of your group count.

This was just a quick test to find you some answers. There may well be some cases where the above is not the case, though in general that's the way Aura of Solitude works.

...why am I not surprised? The only thing I'm missing in this post is "...and this is totally WAI." On the plus side, healing companions have like 50-70% downtime. Though probably - wouldn't be amazed if this were the case - unconscious companions would suppress its effect, too...

Thanks for clarification, nonetheless, after 8 weeks...

So, if you are using even a cleric companion as I understand it, this aura is useless and a complete waste of points to level up. I have been waiting for this to get fixed to use and now it looks like I totally wasted points on it. I don't think companions should count as an ally with some of our auras. Like this one.

Tooltip should say: If you use a companion other than an Augment companion don't bother wasting points on this aura. It will be useless.

This shouldnt even be an aura, because it's effect affect only one target. It should be called "We had to fill the slot and this is what with came with". This aura should increase Paladins dmg based on how many mobs is around him. The more mobs the higher bonus he gets.
