Technical Q: Stereo Mix Input?

Few times I have want to play a sound file directly through the in game party voice chat rather than to broadcast it through ambient the microphone (which sounds horrid).

Using the speaker output as microphone input is common and I can get it to work with other games and applications.
But for Neverwinter I have tried everything obvious and this is not working. This could be a bug.

I am doing two things:

1. In Neverwinter: Options / Audio / Voice Chat / Input Device and select Stereo Mix (Realtek High Def) instead of Microphone (Realtek High Def). This is what I think could be bugged.

2. In Windows 8: Sound / Audio Devices / Recording / Stereo Mix (Realtek High Def) <-- Set as Default Device and Default Communication device. This is common and described with screenshots here: http://tinyurl.com/32k9bgz

Green sound bars are showing up on Stereo Mix when I play files and so the sound information is there, but it is not coming through to Neverwinter. I play a sound or music file and party hears nothing. I have also tried combinations of the above 1 and 2 (1 as Microphone and 2 as Stereo Mix, 1 as Stereo Mix and 2 as Sterro mix, 1 as Stereo mix and 2 as microphone), etc.

Should work, but it doesn't.
Anyone been successful with this? Any ideas?
