This is probably the most underrated daily that we got, it's so useful in PvP I just learned over the past few hours. It's definitely worth a try, better then any secondary daily to ice knife that I've been using, it's best used if there are non cc immune people gangbenging you up close, because it stuns them, launches them 50 feet away, and almost always deals atleast 5k damage. So far using it it's been the most reliable ability (for me) seeing as how all other attacks vary so much versus other CW's to tank gwfs, this attack always hits constant.

MoC has such a huge tell that it's rendered virtually useless. It's incredibly inferior to Ice Knife and Oppressive Force, sadly. Anyone paying the slightest bit of attention can simply walk away from the caster to avoid the teleport+prone, and GWFs, TRs, and GFs all have easy, breezy mechanics that allow them to keep smacking you at melee range with no worry of getting CCed, all while you're stuck in the casting animation.
The damage mitigation and CC immunity are nice on paper, but effectively offset by the fact that you are rooted in place while you cast. This daily has needed love for a LONG time.
It is definitely the MOST under-rated daily skill we have. The main 2 reasons why I usually use it more than Ice Knife in pvp.
1: You can cast it while you are Choked, and most other non prone CC's.
very useful against the CW's that like to run a hard CC rotation. They never expect to be hit , I have never once had someone who choked me get out of the bolt area when I used MoC, they are too busy fast casting there rotation.
2: You can shift out of it last second and still retain half of your Action Points if you so choose.
same thing here, you can use it to eat the CC's you know are incoming. IE GWF or GF rushing at you for prones, CW trying to choke or chain CC you, TR that is running smoke bomb and other dazes. and you can just resume as normal and retain half your AP. The 5500 give or take damage isn't the greatest aspect of this skill at all.
This skill allows you to live through so much, it is priceless.
And of course if you use it in an obvious way people will avoid it easily. Just like people will dodge your ice knife if you try to hit them with it and they aren't CC/rooted.

I tried I MoC for quite a long time before giving up on it. Against weak or dumb opponents it was a very satisfying daily - picking up that lump of a GWF and sending him flying. Against anyone with any skill, it was always evaded. The AoE is so small that even idiots occasionally avoided it just by accident. Maybe I was doing it wrong - pantamime's post makes me want to give it another shot. Anyone else got anything to relate?

Putting the Buff into Debuff since 2013 \o/ (Does that even make sense)?
What bugs me is that it is the one CW ability that does not gain any damage as you increase power. So while all of your other abilities get stronger and stronger as you buff up your character, MoC is as strong (or weak) as it is the moment you reached level 60.

Atleast even if your fighting a sentinel gwf idiot you will hit higher with maelstrom then anything else even if its a crit haha
You will have a much greater success using it in the thick of the heat at a control point.
I always solo queue because it is more fun, although sometimes it is regrettable; usually it's more fun than face rolling other pugs with a premade.
With that said I have changed my CW's build over all this time to a much more tanky control based build. I am very heavy lifesteal and HP based. As with most PUGs people don't understand how to push and/or fight on the **** point. So I took it upon myself to always fight on the point - usually this allows my other team mates to become bolder and charge forward with me - no one wants to be the first to mid against the huge influx of CC and damage that is sure to be coming.
And lets be honest when you see a CW out in front alone on a point, you and all your team mates target him and spam your rotation as hard and fast as you can. Everyone does, I know you fellow CW's have experienced this lol. I have literally had 2 ice knives and a Shocking Execution land on my already dead corpse because people were spamming there stuff on me so hard. Which sucks for me but is great for all my team mates left to fight against non-daily having enemies. I've also easily tanked through multiple ice knives that have come down on me while I was channeling MoC and lived.
The answer is to just MoC tank all the crazy **** and decide whether or not you want to dodge out of casting it at the last .1 second or allow it to finish. If you see that people avoided your targeted area and they ran away from your proximity of MoC's throw then you should definitely dodge out and save half of your action points. Otherwise LET HER RIP.
I guess it all comes down to how you play and what you prioritize. If you are looking at the skills from a perspective of a Raw damage dealer than MoC is not the best skill. It's merits aren't it's damage. 5500 isn't anything great - hell sudden storm hits for double that.
Really it is quite similar to Steal Time in a lot of ways. Which brings up another fun side note. I am sure a lot of people know this already but Steal Time has the same ability to dodge out and only go on a 4sec-ish cooldown. While it doesn't do it's full damage - each pulse you allow it to release before you dodge can proc spell storm and other wep effects and each pulse stacks the slow. This is very useful if timed right when you are trying to deal with multiple melee enemies that are trying to stay on your ***. The 4 sec cooldown is quick and the slow lasts a couple seconds, works well with the usual perfect timed dodges.

I think the whole strategy can be summed up like this: in crazy PUGs where no one seems to know what they're doing, you can get away with oddball stuff like MoC or Steal Time. Players who are any good will avoid your attempts entirely and/or punish you severely for rooting yourself like that. I get what you're trying to accomplish by leveraging the DR from MoC, but simply teleporting or dropping an Oppressive Force is a more reliable (short-range) counter than letting yourself sit there getting pelted while hitting no one and using 50-100% of your AP regardless.
