Hey all! Trying my hand out as a cleric, and wouldn't mind some opinions:
My goal is to be go the hybrid route: mainly healing, somewhat tanky-ish, with enough HP/DPS to hold my own when things get icky and not be "that" cleric who can't manage to keep her group healthy without dying all the time. No desire to PVP, at all. I have perused the forums and read several of the hybrid builds out there, but none seem all that current and this work thing keeps getting in the way of my theorycrafting.
From you all, who play your clerics and know what works for you and what doesn't, which is better: Anointed Champion, or Divine Oracle? What about "starter" lvl60 gear? Is Thayan/Sharandar any good for that?
Thayan gear is fine for starting. I use a support build (the Righteous Cleric thread) which lets me do dailies comparatively fast with Divine Glow/Daunting Light, provide Foresight buff to my party, and do enough healing to keep a good group up through any dungeon.
I'd definitely go Divine Oracle - Anointed Champion seems to lack a certain something. Some people will make it work, but they could probably make Oracle work better.

This I will politely disagree with. Both paths are quite viable, and I wouldn't turn a new person off of either one without good reason.

Both viable. First you must pick which encounter MUST in your slot, then your favorite class feature, daily and at-will. Lastly, check your feats and which path do you want? If you chose a path, which feats you are going to invest in? Does it includes a paragon feats?? If you want that particular feat then adjust your entire sheet of skills till you found the best combinations of your favorite. No best of the best guide, just the most suitable one for you. I even dare to abandon the Astral Shield everyone is demanding from a cleric, so why not make your own choice??
IMO the only good reason to recommend one path over the other has nothing to do with viability but with play style preference.
For example, some players can't stand to use Exaltation (an important AC encounter) because it's a single-target ability rather than a point-blank AoE or a splat. Some players don't want to be bothered with needing to position themselves and aim for their targets, while others are just not very good at it.
DO also has a very effective mitigation buff (Foresight) that is easy to share with the party. AC's buffs aren't exactly difficult, and they are more powerful than Foresight while in effect, but they require that the player position properly and have a sense of timing and anticipation.
TL;DR: DO is really easy. It has simple, effective options for party support and for damage; hard to go wrong. AC is very powerful and has arguably the best single-target (well, two-person, including the caster) buff in the game with Exaltation, but the play style doesn't agree with everyone.
Path differences
DO
feats: terrifying insight, foresight, prophetic action
daily: hammer of fate
at-will: brand of the sun
encounters:prophecy of doom
AC
feats: annointed action, annointed armor, annointed holy symbol
daily: annointed armor
at-will: blessing of battle
encounters: exaltation
DO allows for more damage output and a one-skill-protects-all feat (foresight) making it easier for soloing and can be an addition to help do dps if geared well
Most people don't run dps dc but if you have 2 dc's, a dc can put almost as much dmg output as a cw
AC is more of a buffing/debuffing/brief immunities spec; it is more about supporting your party and imo has less versatility than the DO class
I like both paths, in fact I have two clerics. But if I were to pick one path I'd go DO b/c I can change from debuffing to healing to damage without changing my spec too much. AC forces you into a specific niche of party buff/debuff.

Why is this?
What reason would that be?
