I been reading several builds and I notice that no Clerics try for the deflection skill. I was thinking of using the Cruel Enchantments which gives split its stats between defense and deflection. I figure, that since their is a diminishing return in everything getting 1000 more deflection might be worth more then some more hit points and defense. I already have my defense at 2000. My GS is about 13k. I play an Anointed Champion. I usually drop Astral Shield on divinity in combat, Divine Glow in regular mode ( to save my divinity for AS) and my At wills are Astral Shield and lately I been using Blessing of Battle.
What do you think? Is deflection worth it?
Thanks

Deflection severity is only 50% on cleric. So you have whatever chance to reduce damage by half, usually slim chance because it takes a lot of deflect to increase the chance significantly. You aren't usually the object of the lion's share of aggression, when partied, since they fixed the healing aggression.
When soloing, you don't need it. You can heal yourself at will, and your attacks even heal you. I finish most fights at full health without even paying attention to it.
So I think you should have some defense and HP, but I don't think deflection is worth using a slot. I have 900 deflect on my cleric. No idea how it got there, probably some accessory gear and/or active bonus from pets. It never does anything at all for me that I can tell. ***
I think you would have to pump your deflect up really really high to have a decent chance to reduce by 50%.
Of course I play my cleric as a straight up critical healer for dungeons. Some people play it differently and may have entirely different perspective to offer. Heck, even someone who plays it the same way may have a different perspective.
Checked.. a lot of my accessory gear gives me deflect. Nothing to do with why I chose that gear tho. And I do get some deflect from pets. None of my main gear has any deflect on it at all.

Thanks for replying. Deflection Severity I guessing on a Cleric is only have as good as the other classes. Do any other classes suffer from this. I think that the Brutal Enchantments (defense\hit points) may be the best.
Thanks for the information.

Yes, some other classes (maybe most of them can't remember right off,) also only get 50% deflect severity. The rogue gets 75% so I spent some points on the deflect on mine. (Initially, I didn't. Because the char sheet said it only had 25%, then they corrected it, to 75%, and I rebuilt for it, then they 'corrected' it back to 25% again, and I adjusted again, then they corrected it again to 75. Was a bit frustrating but it seemed like no one noticed it but me. haha) I think I got my defense around 2300 on my cleric, then put some in HP. I have a few hundred lifesteal and regen, but I don't even think about them. Mostly, I just try not to get hit. But the heals crit all the time and with 100% severity, I don't usually have to worry about too much.

I did some calculations , and basically my conclusion was that until you have close to 4000 Defense you are better off just increasing Defense, but after that you will be better off increasing Deflect instead of putting more points into Defense.
