Lock Boxes and Matchmaking for Epics

Hi Guys,

I like most parts of the game and the lore visuals are certainly there, but some of the mechanics have got to change. Namely lock boxes. Why are these even in the game? I really don't complain but this one sticks in my craw! I realized that it's a randomly generated prize, but COME ON people.

At level 60 All I've ever wanted is a decent, fast mount and I've opened probably 100 lock boxes to no avail. This has been almost a complete waste of Zen. I've gotten 1 decent companion and maybe 1 or 2 purple items out of it. I met another player who's opened WAY more and it's the same deal. As a suggestion, perhaps lower the prices of some of the more useful items. 3200 Zen for one item is outrageous. Sorry if I don't have bags of cash to throw at Zen but that's just me.

Second point: The system for forming a group to do Epic Quests is SOOOO broken. For the love of Kelemvor!! I probably get 1 out of 10 attempts that actually work to form a full party, then 1 or 2 people bail immediately. I don't even bother to hope to quest for Teir 2 items now and have to find other, less fun ways like grinding it out to convert gems to Zen or vice versa. There has to be more. I've never seen Valindra or MB's Castle or any of the fun scary bosses.

Please PW, take away some of the grind-factor and fix some of these problems. Allow more access to what makes the game fun.

You want a fast mount? Buy one, don't gamble on it with keys. Mounts bought with Zen can be used by every character you ever make. Mounts from lockboxes can only be used on one.

Lockboxes are designed to entice people to spend money. Which isn't to say that you can't get some very nice things from them, but you have to take responsibility for what you're prepared to spend on them, and accept that you might not win the grand prize, ever.

I think I'm right in saying that lockbox keys are one of Cryptic's best selling items , one thing I learnt very fast from other free to play MMO's ( almost all of which have a gambling system in one form or another ) is to never get into the gambling system if you are easily disappointed , you would have been better off using the 100 keys worth of zen or AD to just buy a mount off the AH or the zen store ( which would be account wide ) . On your second point yes unfortunately the queue system is badly broken at the moment , hopefully they are working on some fix for it at the moment.

Why wouldn't you just do the sensible thing and buy an epic mount?

Anyone who's ever played a f2p MMO knows you never bother spending money on chance items.

Turn your bars from the chests into wards. Sell wards and buy chest mount.

Agreed with many other posters here. Don't buy keys, buy a mount outright. It can be used by each character on your account from here on out, and the cheapest purple I believe is 2500 zen (the armored horse, whichever it's real name is in-game). Which is also why you see so many people on it.

Use the lockboxes if you want to gamble. I don't even do that anymore. I buy zen, and sell zen for astral diamonds, mostly. More reliable.

One of the things people need to keep in mind is that you CAN sell the items to fund yourself more AD to convert to Zen to purchase more keys and keep the cycle going until it peters out. Not everyone who says they've gone through hundreds of lock boxes has spent as much AD or cash as you might think =P. (just a disclaimer since this is constantly an assumption I see made).

But as others have stated, you really are often better off just buying the mount outright. I don't play with lockboxes often, as with most gambling once I've beat the house (although I still have yet to get a purple companion or mount even after about 200 of my own) I tend to call it quits unless a deal comes up worth biting at.

Personally, I'm content to run on my green mounts. It means I might not score as much in PvP, but I also get there later and can help finish off some people (granted I hardly ever PvP). So lockboxes don't exactly fit lore wise, but as far as game funding goes, they're the bee's knees.
