Just have a very quick and I'm sure very noobish question if you guys don't mind taking the time to answer.
I've been reading a lot of guides lately and what almost all of them have in common is that they completely ignore (seemingly) one of the 3 primary stats for those classes. Is this because of certain specs or current gameplay, or is this just a good idea in general?
Take a guardian fighter for instance. I almost never see a guide that says to get dexterity. Also many of the hunter ranger guides ignore strength. Many of the guides I've read either don't mention it at all or the rolls they shoot for almost completely ignore it.
Well, for rangers I know that people ignore strength simply because they get so much armor penetration through their weapon/armor sets that they overshoot the PvE "cap" without any effort, so its less useful than the other 2 stats. As for your GF example, I don't know; never made one.
A guide is just that, a guide. Its what worked for that person, and they may be a beast with that build, others may visit the fire quite a few too many times with the same build.
Another thing is paying attention to the type of build it is. Read the title. Is it a TR whisperknife or executioner, HR melee or ranged specific, PVP or PVE build, sentinal or tank, PVP or PVE?
Some stats are left alone depending on what the build is for. Like midnightfang's answer, your gonna have to ask a GF about that.
Dex for GFs is basically just arp, which as noted can be obtained through gear. Str gives ability to do damage (thus maintain threat) and Con gives ability to take damage, both of which are more useful overall.

OP, keep in mind that many authors of guides are looking at things from a purely functionality standpoint. Additionally, they tend to analyze things from an end-game perspective - how to maximize performance in epic dungeons, PvP, etc.
Personally, I look at what the stats have to offer, and what seems most useful overall - perhaps that means pouring more points into a secondary stat or stats...

GF's typically don't use dexterity for the same reason HR's don't use strength. GF's get plenty of deflect on their gear and feats, most GF's want the damage and health from their other primaries.
Most builds will exclude one of the three main stats for good reason. You don't want one toon trying being a "jack of all trades", this is why people have multiple toons built to be aces of a particular trade.
Thanks for all the responses. I've got a better understanding now I believe, although it wasn't what I was hoping for. I'll just have to get out of the mindset of one character to do it all.
