Since the even I see nothing but walls of texts from people trying to sell the event items, and gold sellers are still coming through. Is there no way to do a checksum value on the chat line to prevent some one from repeating the same message more than 2x in a min? I mean the gold sellers are not as bad now, but now I have to see the same people flooding chat with event items every 2 seconds. Also a trade chat would be great.
You could mention that the traders could go to the trading channel…oh wait we don’t have one. Well, we have some custom channels and a variety of them. So you can tell them to go talk to themselves basically on some unofficial backwater channel. I’m sure they are all looking to do that.
Or you could tell Cryptic to provide a real trade channel for people to use. I wonder if it is really that hard to do. Are there some deep configurations that require a team of developers multiple meetings to discuss the best strategies for adding a chat channel? Is there some concern that it will unbalance the game in some way?
Or is this just not important because it is for the players rather than the stock holders?
I don't understand why anti-spam chat systems aren't a standard for MMORPGs. Even Blizzard got lazy when it came to this and didn't implement a good anti-spam system until just a few years ago and that MMO is over 8 years old!
I think it was Lord of the Rings Online that had the best anti-spam system ever. If someone tried writing more than 2 lines of text in a row in too little time, their 3rd and more texts will not appear on the chat window! Instead, it will display a clickable line of text that wrote something like: "Spam detected - click here to show text" !
If you clicked that link, all the "Spam" or several lines/paragraphs of text the player wrote will show up on your screen!
Why isn't something like that a standard for all MMORPGs?
Or if that's too complicated to program, then just go with the lazy method like Blizzard did and add a timer before you can write something else in chat! Put like a 5 to 10 second delay before you can write something else in chat! No one needs to write more than 1 line per 5 to 10 seconds! NO ONE!!! If you do, then you are most likely a spammer anyways, so good riddance!

Or an increasing spam punishment.
More than 2 messages inside 3 seconds - 60 sec cooldown with notification
Do it again - 10 min cooldown
Third time - chat banned for 24 hours.
Get chat banned more than once a week - permanent chat ban, with option to appeal to GM.
We shouldn't have to turn off zone chat. Maybe Cryptic didn't implement that yet because their other games didn't have it. STO and CO are good games in their own right but also testing beds for Neverwinter.

I see more people trying to sell epic items for gold or people advertising their AH stuff than selling event items (still there's plenty of them).
Trade chat and LFG chat would be good
It is pretty bad. My biggest pet peeve about the game is the chat monstrosity.
They should adopt DDO's chat. It rocks. Has advice, General chat and a Trade channel. They should also use a similar LFG panel.
Idk? I turned off the spam channel after my first week. Seemed to reduce lag a bit . It was so chaotic with spammers selling junk and plat farming site people that it was to hard to read anything at all.. Just constant spam zinging by.
I sure hope they add something upon official launch to sort this stuff out. To build a proper community a general chat is a must in any mmo. The way it is now its just spammers and gold sellers with the occasional new players question lost in the chaos.

what we need is separate chat for each instance -_- this way the 600 people in town can actually be split into 70 max per chat and you can actually talk + harder for bots to advertise to everyone.

I agree. Dragon server was RIDICULOUS these past few days. Sell your HAMSTER on the AH!!! Trade and LFG chat will have to be implemented for me to stay any length of time. We should not have to turn off general chat because of jacka$$ is trying to sell stuff or advertise themselves for whatever dungeon.
I spend the 5 minutes between each invasion yesterday for about an hour ignoring/reporting those idiots and it didnt seem to make much of a difference.

if you banned link from zone channel - yep that works too.
the other problem is goldfarmer bots creating 1000 accounts per minute, doesn't matter if you ban them they got 999 more...
but that's a diff issue.
