Yep. The 4E equivalent to the blackguard is the Blackguard. It's a Striker class, where the standard Paladin and Cavalier are both Defenders. It's actually a pretty fun class to play, and, as the article states, you need not be evil to be one.

i really hope that in 6-12 months they will come up with shadow source classes / evil classes and introduce them together with a r vs r system, good vs evil sieging and persistant battlefields...that wold be great :-)
Thanks everyone! Good to see a potential chance for this. I played Dark Knight in FFXI, Death Knight in WoW, Shadow Knight in EQ1/EQ2, and a Dread Knight in Vanguard so this is a passion to play this class.

It was a little tricky finding this on the internet. I finally used google and searched on

There are some similar paladins to Blackguard too - like gray guard, who are not completely black or white.
In 4E they can be any alignment, it depends on the god... so Blackguard, or the Anti-paladin, from 3E just became a paladin.
I just read the webpage about it, Its At-Will, Daillies... ZOMG I must have this class.

4e replaced Prestige Classes with Paragon Paths. This game has those.
Neverwinter released... without the MOST IMPORTANT CLASS ever?
No BLACKGUARD??????
This... is by FAR... the most insulting mistake EVER.
NW without BlackGuard is like Earth without water AND oxygen.
I do not believe you will be able to overcome this grave error.... ever....
