Most of the feats are bad and have next to no synergy. The only one I'd really consider to be any good is Shield Thrower, which makes Shield Throw a great ranged aggro tool. I consider Combat Balance to be *slightly* better than Critical Deflection because it can go past the 50% Defense cap (and I dislike relying on Deflect).
Stats don't matter too much, aside from getting ~60,000 ArmorPen for the aggro.
The best way to play tank is to use your eyes and use your head. Keep an eye on the enemies, look for gaps in their attacks, and make your moves accordingly. Be patient, don't panic, and you should be fine.
