Why is it so hard to get Air Motes for Elemental Weapons?

Okay, in my bid to try and keep up with this losing arms race of upping my equipment score I decided to quest for the Air Elemental weapons from the Elemental Quest giver in Protector Enclave. So I set off to Spinward Rise, and after getting my butt kicked trying to solo heroics, nothing. Then I think, "Ah, so that was all that Zone chatter about crabs going on in the Drown Shores." Sure enough folks were working together calling out rotations and times for each instance to defeat the crab boss and eek out a single water mote (with a 100% drop rate, thank you). Despite the 12 grueling hours I managed to grind out 100 motes with a great group of players all collaborating for the same endeavor; it was probably one of the best part of this game so far.

Anyway, I still want my air motes so I'm back in Spinward Rise, and after a few Heroic Encounters, nothing. There was one where a group of folks was doing an HE with this Storm Giant, must of been about 12 of us and the time expired. I dunno, maybe some joined late but after 15 minutes we came up empty when the time expired. Grrrrr. That was frustrating. Did the Slaad HE...ridiculous as waves of mobs poured out...fail. Four completed side heroic, nothing. Basically two hours and a waste of time. What gives, guys?

On any given day you can go to Drowned Shores and check the Zone as folks are working together getting water motes but in Spinward Rise, crickets. Its a terrible Zone.

So, here are a few suggestions. Could you put an extend timer counter feature on those high stakes HE, where people are pouring their guts out trying to beat the boss, so as to avoid that wretched empty feeling of FAIL! when the time expires? I mean common, when folks are finally hitting their stride and beating this guy down give us players (with low equipment scores, trying to work our way up rather than spending Zen points and or buying anything we can at AH) a break! Wow!

Secondly, could you make elemental weapons tradeable for another set with the NPC? If to make it fair send the player off to get something extra to trade with another elemental weapon set in (but gawd! Don't make it impossible!). I mean I have a nice water elemental weapon set now, but I'd rather get the Air.

I would prefer things changed in this way

    1. HE in higher level zones should give more motes per a one major he completion

    10 motes - air
    5 motes - fire
    2 motes - earth
    1 motes - water

That still places earth motes in quite unfair position. I got my fire sets for 2 characters, major HE difficulty was alright but doing them 100 times is bad. For next 2 chars i took water sets, it was easy and fast. Btw, i saw how people organized timer and i took control over this task as well. Without someone announcing timers farming motes is a mess. But shorter HE cooldown in water zone is big plus.

    2. If player has completed all pve zone compaign, some or even major part of motes for given zone should be rewarded.

I'd like to see if you complete one of these quests on one toon you can reclaim your unawakened heart of whatever and get the weapon on an alt as well. A friend of mine has 12 alts and he has grinded for 8 weapons so far. The thought of that is maddening and makes the game very alt unfriendly. He's a special case. I don't know of many that would do that for their alts at all. If that were the case I'd be more likely to finish grinding this or even get all of them unlocked.

Well day two and zero air motes. Spinward Rise has the fewest players I've seen and fewest instances. That alone must speak volumes about this zone.

After doing the original vigilance grind on two of my characters I have only returned to Spinward to get two more of my five characters through it and to help friends out.
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.

Well, the fact is that the set bonus on the air weapons appeals to very few people. There are classes/builds/playstyles where the drowned weapon is by far the best and the same goes for the burning weapon. Few people like the earth weapons, and the air weapons...well, I don't really understand why anyone would want that bonus.

Personally I did grind the drowned weapons ... took like 12 hours of non-stop instance hopping, but if I level a second alt to 70 I will probably skip the elemental weapons altogether - just use the "free" fire weapon I get for reaching 70 and then go straight for the Twisted set (or whatever else will be available then).
    Hoping for improvements...

would be nice if only need 1 character (main) to unlock for alts after finishing 100th mote, just for doing 1 encounter event and done flagged.

Well I given up on Air motes. There are much better gear out there so I'm over it. =)

I completed the air quest purely because the zone was a loooot quieter than the others and thus easier to solo the HE's. I was struggling until they released the drop boost pots in the trade bar shop - after that it was a piece of cake.

May try for the fire ones at some point, but the layout of the fiery pit and their HE's don't really appeal much.

The drop boosts pots worked really well for air motes. I usually got around 20 motes for each pot so it took me a day or two to get 100 motes.
