Combat Objective Invisible

I have a combat encounter on my map. I have placed it just like many other combat encounters in my foundry quests, but for some reason this one is invisible. When I get to where I placed it, I don't see anything.

If I enter edit mode and target where it should be, it does appear.

The Y coordinate seems a little odd, but it does appear "where it should" when targeted.

What can I check to sort out why it doesn't appear during a play through?

    Check Y of both the encounter and its entity (simply in both layout and detail mode, but rly the detail tree is the tool that should be used for a couple of reasons). If its part of an objective (kill that), tmay appear only when that objective is currently active (no matter the appear when setting).Full paper describing positioning and the issues (eg exterior maps with non-flat terrain) is for another thread or wiki entry i guess (which am too lazy for anyway).

    yesss.. check the Y in both 'detail' and 'layout' modes.

    also if its a story objective, maeg is right. sometimes it doesnt show up until 'this objective in progress'

    altho -142 doesnt look right. ;D

    Check if the encounter and its entity are in Terrain or Zero Altitude.

    Mystery solved.

    The objective is positioned inside one of the caves on the IWD outdoor map (not DV, the other one... forget the name). When I first positioned them with the editor, they were on top of the cave's overhang. I repositioned them using the 3D editor, which did not work out well.

    I put them back at y=0 relative to terrain and they were again on top of the overhang. Then I changed them to y=-40 (used /locvec to figure out the value) and everything is working.
