problems with getting spammed by "sellers" while i am inside dungeons.

wylonuswylonus Member, NW M9 Playtest Posts: 2,376 Arc User
i wonder how they were able to find me so deep in seed dungeons or while i am with que' for eCC or eVT runs, i get spammed while in combats.
it is unethical and very rude, and annoyed by wasting time clicking them out and add to ignore list while in combat.
i am on friend list only/and Anon list so they cant find me.
others are also annoyed while inside the dungeons and saying these sellers are using 3rd party tool to locate other players while inside several dungeons.

i think they abuse EULA with 3rd party search program to find buyers, these are rude and dont care if we get wipes while fighting, and often interupt groups' healer when they have pop up spams.

Devs, we need those "invite friends" turn off in anywhere except while inside PE/SH/Guilds, well maybe not in Strongholds if fighting dragons or event encounters, and must be in SH zones for friends invites. but those unknown players shouldnt send pop up messages if they cant access into SH zones.
making invites very restrictive only in PE or in guilds so they cant use pop up spams in adventure zones with invite messages.

The gold sellers are flooding you with friend requests?

That's a first that I am hearing about it. I'll forward it out, though. Thanks for the report.

I have as well been getting these strange friend invites...it does not matter whether you are in dungeon, in PE or any other map. I did get them to stop though...I turned my visibility to "Friends Only". That has seemed to end it until a real fix is in place. can tell they are bots are AD sellers because of names...fake name example: rgdt12@fghrty123

It was getting very annoying so I just hid myself basically...to bad this has to happen in an MMO. It kind of defeats the purpose. Thank goodness guild members that are not aready in your friends list can use the guild roster to look you up.

I don't even get why they would do it tbh.

Even if you were a potential buyer it would serve to tick people off. I know I personally in real life have actually been interested in a service and go out of my way to avoid purchasing from a place which is borderline harassing me.

For instance right now I have been getting these annoying spam phone calls advertising Solar Power. The concept of getting solar actually really intigues me as a science buff and it makes a lot of sense just as a means to limit power bills as well as being eco friendly. Your roof is going to get hit by sunlight regardless so you really might as well put it to use...

But the company is annoying me so much even to the extent of calling at 9:45 PM the other night that I would absolutely refuse to do business with them. If we do opt to get solar I am going to relish in telling them they convinced me to get solar power...from another company.

Less people in PE = need to spread awareness via other means.

really? lol, i get calls from overseas, mostly from island nations in gulf of mexico when i tracked numbers with internet investigations, and decided to unplug my landline phone and start using cellphone, since i am deaf, i only get text messages and screen most calls blocked.
    never been bother since unplugged.
my cellphone was better than old TTY and other devices, since i can carry anywhere.

back to topic, yeah, as i mentioned, i put on friend only/anon mode, and still get pop-ups friend invites. i dont mind doing and adding them on ignore list in PE when i am not busy. i dont accept them, since i am aware of "accounts" compromised by odd friend list target for later hackings.
only annoyed while in dungeons or helping someone else quests and too busy staying alive, that is bugging me alot.
so i felt devs could switch and restrict only to be in PE zone and turn off in any adventure zones.

    That part is inaccurate. :)

Accounts are never really hacked. Think of it this way if accounts got hacked they would want Dev accounts or even mod accounts over player accounts as they could gain access to more sensitive information.

Hacking is in fact a really incorrectly and overused term by gamers. Most accounts are simply compromised by users going to websites with malicious content, sharing accounts or using passwords such as "password."

Off Topic: I get spam phone calls on both my cell phone and landline. Typically they don't call back multiple times or I give them a reason to not call back. I actually called one back which kept calling my cell and screamed and told them I was going to get an air horn just for them. Then they made the mistake of calling me 20 minutes later. Sadly I didn't have the air horn yet but I must have made my point because I haven't heard from them since.

I've been having these random friend invites + spamming tell associated as well. It's something recent. So far all I can do is right click their names and select "report spam".

they especially do that in dungeon to me.
  • fogtripperfogtripper Member Posts: 179 Arc User

They send you a request and then before you can say no, they cancel it.lol

Has happened to me as well during all content. I am beginning to suspect that rather than it being goldseller, it being someone pulling a poor-mans DDOS. Just doing it to be an a-hole.

Had this happen to me also. I doubt crypic will do anything about it. They are probably getting kick backs from the gold farmers.

you're being generous, i think they are the gold farmers. it'd be a nice way to get some cash off the books.

but on topic. it appears to be a single gold spammer. i cant remember the name of the site off hand. but you get the friend request. a spam message about their site then defriended. and they keep changing the account it from so reporting them isnt doing any good.

Yeah they add me in last 2 days... few times i was afk then i declined request and it said me no standing request .

One time i am added by on of them i immediately declined it, again it said no standing request.

Be careful guys they might try a new kind of bug..... In old times they were sending messegaes from mailbox for websites too.

An advise; make yourself invisible to ppl or visible to only friends... so they cannont find you in friend list after typing a "k" and clicking add on the list.

The spammers are gettin desperate. The spamming and Friend Requests have increased ten fold in the past few days. :/

Yeah, its getting annoying, when a friend invitation pops on your screen in the middle of combat. They dont, however, want to be a part of your friend list, they remove invitation instantly. I guess a friend request is some kind of scan where they get players handles and if they succeed in sending a request (even if you dont accept it) - they spam the person.

What i gather is the gold sellers are using the "find person" feature to whisper and add as friend.
and since there is a lack of options when it comes to friends list and whispers and party invites.
everyone has no choice but to change there status to invisible or friends only.

I keep my status as invisible, that seems to take me off the list of "find person" feature.
i only change my status when i have to do one of the Quests of the ToD Campaign with a party.

i would suggest to temporarily take down the Find party and Find person features.

Just a slight update, I relayed this to Andy and he was as confused as to why they would even consider this a good idea as me...

But he has passed it along for further investigation. Sadly that is all we can do for the time being though.

I'm getting flooded with friend requests, even though I set my visibility to "Visible to friends only".

I follow such unsolicited requests with /ignore_spammer @TheSpammerHandle.

At least in California you can sue originators of spam calls to cell phones for $500 in small claims. A friend helped pay his first year law school bills by threatening the suit and then sending an offer to settle for $250. You need to be a little cleaver on the call to get enough information about who they are. Of course they are structured so if they ever get hit by a large enforcement action, they declare bankruptcy and the same people start up a new company.

it would help if devs made the dungeons/adventure zones block "friend invite requests", only it should be in PE.

yeah, one of poster said in here, they could be "scanning" for handler names. that scary.
