  • When people were talking about fleet slaves, it was only meant as a joke. STO doesn't actually need slavery. Nor does it need wage slaves. Spinning this abortion of content as a positive isn't helping anyone.
  • Related tangent: a problem with Tribble feedback is that it's mostly just whales and a tiny portion of the base that utilizes it, so the feedback they get is incredibly stilted. In some cases, it actually makes the game worse, since the people doing the testing have unrealistic priorities.
  • Make no bones about it: the holding is just a mindless grind project for players that think those sorts of things are important. MMO players tend to have this problem, especially in systems like STO's, where there was never any player-sustained regenerating system put into place (like a true colonization system, a Masters…
  • Contrary to what some are saying, I thought this mission is more in line with what I want from STO. The mission wasn't overly long (like most of the missions are). The voice acting from Mister Burton was spot on. It wasn't strung together with an unnecessarily complicated overarching narrative and was a self contained…
  • You'd think Earth would be the center of a quadrant, not slightly off to one side. Especially since the location of all the stars will change over time. Either way, knowing most of the "alpha quadrant" races are actually based in the beta quadrant made Voyager pretty odd. Especially since they were so determined to get…
  • A more important question might be, why did whomever (Gene?) decide that the quadrants of the galaxy would be divided straight down Sol? Is it some harebrained attempt to make Earth the governing point of the galaxy?
  • Non-derivative? It's just an ugly Sovereign. Which itself is basically just an Intrepid. The Odyssey is nearly the same ship. Hell, a good 80% of all post-Voyager ships have that same exact, ugly, flying spearhead Apple product-in-space derivative shape. I don't think the Emissary is the ugliest ship ever made, but it…
  • Nah. Lobi is extremely difficult (and very expensive) to obtain. Lobi ships are also the only way of obtaining certain traits, and I still need a couple of those before I could even consider getting "luxury" items.
  • Eh. Kind of has that post-Voyager problem of all the Fed ships turning into the same exact spearhead/bullet design. There's quite a few ships that need to be brought up to T6, though. I'd rather have several others first, personally.
  • STO has quite a few problems in this area, but, two main points: 1: Queues were always unhealthy for the game. An MMO experience is entering the field, discovering other players, and having open leave to exit the area or enter on your own accord, not accounting for specialized things like a raid/dungeon. The only thing in…
  • I'm saying change the whole animation, as though you were actually using the weapon - not just the color. Sound, visual firing speed, etc. As far as I know, even if you're using, say, pulse phasers, the mechanical rules of weapon cycles and calculations for that weapon type don't change. It comes down to how their code…
  • Probably the biggest hurdle when it comes to that sort of content in STO is how the PvE enemies naturally cheat in not-so-fair ways. For general content it's not going to matter. But even flying around a battlezone, I'm sure everyone has been hit with 3 or 4 waves of AI-brand torpedo spreads that one shot killed them…
  • M.A.C.O. basically does that.
  • The only thing that divided the systems in my head was the dying fail state. I'm not sure if there's even any content in STO that you can actually "lose" at, barring time limits or starbases being disabled. Although to me, the possibility of failure is what creates the feeling of accomplishment. Even if there's basically…
  • Hopefully the T5-U Patrol Escort's Tempest Tail Gun will get converted into a heavy weapon at some point. Hopefully one that isn't phaser-only. Being locked into weapon damage types is a pet peeve of mine. We'll have to wait five more years to actually get a new T6 version of the ship, though.
  • I want an option to turn off NPC popups, in general. I get livid at the bald fat man that won't shut his mouth in the Crystalline queue. Yes, I know what I'm doing. People are already fighting. Shut up. No, don't pop yourself back up because I closed your window too fast. SHUT. UP. God.
  • It's not secret that STO is too damage centric. That's a result of it being an MMO, and cultivating income by selling new consoles and ships that escalate damage. But it's also a result of some very bad design decisions, in not wrangling buffs and numerical increments to things like statuses, stances and so on. When you…
  • At least in PvE, trying one out, it very rarely procs, and when it does, it tends to deal rather mediocre damage. The highest value I've ever seen from it is about 4,000. It has by far the lowest DPS of anything on my build in general, uncontrolled testing play. I'm not sure if there's some other factors involved in its…
  • I've always felt a lot of STO's balancing issues have come from the immense amount of randomization in its procs. If you script things to be guarantees but only when fulfilling criteria, you avoid a lot of the problems of things randomly crit'ing, randomly procing, or even just-so-happening to proc 10 times in a row…
  • I don't really buy into the logic that it would be "unfair" to dual heavy cannons to not get what turrets get. If you're a game designer, part of your job is crafting experiences and role fantasies for players to realize. People citing their "turret" build has high DPS and then admitting it's actually a DHC escort with two…
  • There's a lot to be said of STO's overall combat not really hitting the mark in replicating the feel of Star Trek, not to mention space combat. Weapons fire is far, far more spastic, and doesn't ever worry about up or down. Just forward and aft. In actual design of the ships, just because you're directly facing a target…
  • That's why you do so in the form of a console or trait that only procs under circumstances the developers consider to be safe. It doesn't even have to be damage-focused. Everyone playing STO just thinks in terms of damage. It could be something as simple as a console that applies stacks of itself onto targets when using…
  • That's the appeal of it, yeah. And as mentioned throughout the thread... it is viable. But it would be nice to see some consoles or traits designed to help that kind of build out. Unfortunately people have just been debating whether turrets are bad (they aren't) rather than gestating ideas on what they'd like to see. A…
  • A source of confusion with those is that most parsed runs were using the old plasma consoles and pre-13 balance, before they got nerfed into the dirt. Again, turrets are usable in most general content, but it would be nice to see some content added that reinforces those builds under controlled circumstances. Nothing wrong…
  • Aside from the noise perhaps driving one insane, my main issue with them is they're phaser-only, expensive and random to spec correctly. That's more of an STO-wide problem, though, since there's no disassembly system for modifiers in this game for some bizarre reason.
  • Honestly, that's the most disappointing thing to me. The whole point of running nothing but turrets is the visual fantasy of peppering space with the STO equivalent of machine gun and flak fire. You can tell they never meant people to equip more than 2-3, at most. My solution to that on my Aux to Bat build was to run…
  • I've never bought into the logic that just because you meet the very low DPS requirements for story content, then there's no reason to make it "reasonably" viable to run certain builds. The more variety the game endorses, the easier it is to enjoy the systems in play in the game. I was running an all-turret build earlier…
  • Aside from the heavy escort console I mentioned, there's also: http://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Tactical_-_Automated_Defense_Turret Which is a deployable that's basically just an infinite version of the little terrible ones you can buy as items. It's awful, of course. The heavy escort console set is also pretty…
  • I hope not. If the level cap went up yet again, or there was some more TRIBBLE to have to grind, I'd probably just stop playing. Lateral/horizontal progression is the way to go. People demanding for level 70, mk 16 or whatever weapons, tier 7 or 6-u ships are just bored. That itself is an issue but not one you'll solve…
