I havent really seen any thread that states the same problem im having with cannons atm.
When trying to fire all my cannons at once, i only fire like 1-2 shots from every cannon exept the one on autofire wich keeps fireing, the other goes on cool down right away, id like to know if others have seen this problem aswell, so im in an Escort vessel, when i fire my first cannon and then punch the button to fire the second cannon, my first cannon goes on cool down right away... so i can only fire 1 cannon at any give time, i have tryed to equip a phasor array instead of my second cannon and it can fire at the same time as my cannon does, but a second cannon cannot, so basically my second cannon is useless, i have tryed with 3 cannons and it has the same problem, still can only fire 1 cannon, when i try to fire the other 2, 2 of my cannons go on cooldown right away.
Cannon fire triggers a global cooldown on other cannons. Heavy cannon fire is a 2 second rotation and triggers a 1 second global cooldown. So having more than 2 is pointless, just alternate between the two for a firing pattern.
I haven't used normal cannons in so long I don't remember their fire rotation.

That's really interesting - is that explained in the UI or via helptext ingame at all ? That's really unintuitive, IMO.
well good to know that cannons are more or less pointless...
Perhaps it's an attempt to de-emphasize full frontal cannon attacks? An escort with three cannons up front combined with a turret in the rear would be a devastating ship for dropping shields extremely quickly, though without torps you'll be relying on others for the kill shots.
