Question/thoughts on Rep Space Gear

acethepugacethepug Member Posts: 41 Arc User
I'm not in any cutting-edge content, nor will I likely ever be, so my question, such as it is, is this:

Does it really matter if one mixes different rep gear for Shields, Warp Core/Singularity, Deflector, and Impulse Engines?

I know the sets have nice bonuses, and I have one toon each with a full set of Iconian and Discovery sets, but a lot of others have two-and-two, or some even have a piece from four different reps (it can be a pain to run TFOs over and over to convert normal marks to elite).

Is there a "best" set nowadays (I recall the Iconian was a couple years ago)? Just a basic question as I gear up more toons and get them weaned off the Aegis sets I crafted for everyone.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

(P.S. I did get the Lifetime Sub, not regretting it at all).

It matters as much as you think it does. Some people/builds want to run 4/4 of sets, some maybe mix a pair of 2/4. And others don't bother with set bonuses at all going for the best single pieces. You can look at the wiki to plan your build, know what your plan gets you and what it loses you. Its all about making choices and opportunity cost.

"Best" is totally dependent on what you want to do for a build as well. What you're looking to buff most will point you to what set you want to use. That will probably vary from ship to ship and character to character.

Agreed. Best is totally subjective. I tend to use Assimilated set, even though it is one of the oldest sets in-game, and it's still effective for what I need it to be..

Then take a look at the nukara set. Nukara marks are fairly easy to get thanks to the crystalline entityand nukara prime, it's pieces are still decent and it's 2pc is pretty good (+5% Bonus Energy Weapon Damage).

There are best options it depends on your build.
Generic dps build uses colony deflector, plasma spire warp core, then two piece prevailing engines/ shields
Gamma 4 piece is good for support, especially if you have others running it
Iconion is also good for buffing friends
Borg gives tons of hull Regen, good for tanking

Shield-regen too, if you have the full set.

Slowly working up to get the prevailing space stuff, but Gamma Warp Core, Nukara Shield and Impulse as well as Colony-Deflector (and Col-secondary Deflector on SCV) is solid. There also are some universal consoles throughout all reps that are worth considering depending on your ship. The nukara-console is nice if you go for exotic Damage, for example.
