100% Slipstream Recharge?

edited August 2019 in PC Gameplay Bug Reports
Just thought I'd point out this longtime error in the stats of some consoles.

"Slipstream drive recharges 100% faster" means instant recharge. This should be 50%.

Example: 2 minute recharge time.
50% of this is one minute.
100% is 2 minutes.

The application of haste and such in STO is based on the formula 1/(1+n) where n is the percentage divided by 100... to this end there is no such thing as reducing things to zero.. any amount of improvement just provides diminishing benefits.

Likely "100% faster" will result in the CD being halved (1/(1+1)) = 0.5

Aye, as explained above, the recharge rate takes 2 minutes to complete.
A 100% increase means it recharges twice as fast, and therefore needs half as much time: 60 seconds.
A further 100% increase will mean thrice as fast and therefore one third of the time: 40 seconds, and so on.

100% means everything. Like saying an item is 100% off, this means it's free, not half-price. Sorry, the wording is wrong.

The Omega Force Impulse Engines used to have a 200% cooldown on Slipstream.

I do not believe you can get below a 30 second recharge.

No, it's the recharge rate that it is referring to. Wording is slightly wrong, but it makes sense.

it's either half full or half empty. neither is wrong. it's how you look at it or how you choose to phrase it.

Well, while I'm sure they're seriously concerned with your disagreement with their phrasing, it is what it is. The way they do it is pretty common in MMOs a a method of delivering diminishing returns from boosting statistics, and allowing them to churn out new sources of bonuses without worrying that the universe will implode if they don't carefully monitor the sum of those bonuses.

If you want a legitimate beef, complain about the fact that cyclical quantum slipstream drives claim to only have a 30 second cooldown, but actually have a 2 minute cooldown unless you run the drive for the full 90 seconds.

Yeah, it says 100% faster, which is basically 'in half the time'.

Let's forget about the equations that dictate recharge times and look at this differently.

The standard QSD recharge is 2 minutes, or 120 seconds.
Let's give the QSD a theoretical 'fuel' of 120 units which get used up during QSD usage.

When QSD finishes, the 'fuel' refills at 1 unit per second, giving a 2 minute recharge time.

    The tooltip you mention reads:
    "Slipstream drive recharges 100% faster"

This means it now recharges at 2 'fuel' units per second and this now gives a 60 second recharge time.

I hope this helps you understand the way the tooltip on the console is worded.

The wording is mathematically and logically correct. Unfortunately, our human brains don't always grasp these things as well as we'd like to think.

Yeah, and the fact they say things differently that mean the same thing. Check out the Gamma Rep Warp Core in the descriptions between Transwarp and Slipstream Cooldowns.
