Legitimate grounds to report harasment ?

bruccybruccy Member Posts: 292 Arc User
so i went into a tfo with my carrier and did'nt fly around like i was in a pilot escort . after the tfo ended a guy enquired did waaagh do anything .
thats after i owned everything in my vicinity all tfo and put my fighters on everything within 20 kms of me that they could reach , i admit i barely moved but was active shooting everything i could as able .
is this sort of rude comment reportable . it sure upset my happy mood being in my new ship and all.
this guy needs to go play world of warcraft he would fit right in there
and no i dont remember his character name or handle now
my question is should i report people like this for upsetting me . and yes im likley being to sensitive

    Fascinating.

My problem as of late is often that I enter a tfo with my 300k+ Juggernaut, which I fly like a pilot escort, and face antagonism from random players in chat that I would do too much to conclude a map.

What bizarre world. Do I consider reporting them for harassment? No, I just go ahead with my play and hardly care.

All’s fair in love and pugs so I suggest you do the same and call it a day OP. :)

I think there is a fair consensus that top 10 players should not line up for Normal difficulty matches as they can hand out AFK penalties there. A similar one we have for very inexperienced players better not letting down their team in Elite difficulty maps.

In advanced everything is allowed as it is the common ground where we all meet.

Don’t worry about what others think about you there. Perhaps get better in time if you feel the need but always do it in your own pace and in within your own understanding of fun. :)

Yes I think you are perhaps being too sensitve, you don't know the age of the person 'insulting' you, they could be a child (they could even be a special needs person).

Just imagine online insults as somebody calling you a 'tree'. Would you get into an argument and insist that you are most definitely NOT a 'tree', or would you just ignore them and think to yourself "He called me a tree?!, what a nut!" and then forget about it.

Besides, any type of reports sent into PWE are the epitome of wasted time, they go straight into the 'special inbox'.

Chuckle and move on. I remember someone calling me stupid in Brotherhood of the Sword because I ran over to where the other console was going to spawn and didn't stay at the central one, and to "learn to play the game", when I was one of the only ones actually doing the FA correctly so the consoles didn't immediately reset. That guy screamed at other people in that FA too, like he was the absolute authority on how FA's are done and it was his way or nothing, screaming and shouting like he was about to have a fit.

Just shake your head, have a laugh and move on.

Sometimes I remain still in particular FA's, but move around to re-position before remaining still again. Because I have the "Anchored" trait that increases damage while immobile. Coupled with one of the Competitive Wargames engines that gives a massive but temporary boost every few seconds to turn rate, my Vengeance becomes a partly mobile cannon battery. Works really well.

To answer the title question, no, this incident as you describe is not remotely harassment. They were apparently jerk, sure, assuming they weren't being silly or simply didn't understand what you were doing, and lets be honest, that is a pretty important assumption that changes everything.

Regardless of their actual intent, it was one incident. One incident is never harassment. Rude comments are also nonsensical to report, because you have an ignore function in this game.

Now what you could do is offer to demonstrate how effective your ship and tactics are in a private queue or Argala or whatever. If they really didn't understand or thought you weren't contributing, they would learn how effective you were doing that and likely apologize or maybe even start asking how to make your build as they get interest in it. Its above and beyond what you need to do, but its the best possible option, because you can enlighten them and instead of making an enemy, you might make a friend.

The next thing you can do is to simply ignore it and move on. You don't even need to bother with the ignore feature, just turn the other cheek and move on. There is no reason to get bothered by someone who doesn't know what they are talking about. Its that easy, just walk away.

Finally you could use the ignore function. If their comments really bothered you that much, that is what this feature is for. You don't have to listen to them again. Problem solved.

Now legitimate harassment is virtually impossible in the game. If they could somehow follow you around from instance to instance and try interfering with your flying and walking, and doing other obnoxious stuff that you can't escape from, that's harassment.

The fleets that require mics from their members are often chock full of arrested development types that either have no control over their own juvenile dialogue or who have screaming children and/or spouses in the back ground. Other times, I've entered tfo's and then been given the riot act by dweebs slamming me (or someone else) for not belonging there or being underleveled? They either don't understand that this is a game or they are TRIBBLE! The random selection process sends you where it sends you, so getting bent out of shape seems pointless to me?

I generally agree with most comments.

However, it also depends on where you were sitting on the map. It would actually be a reasonable question if you were sitting on the fringe edge of the map. If you were so far out it wouldn't matter if you "owned everything in my vicinity all tfo" if that vicinity were so far away from the center of the action. If you were sitting right next to the starbase in the thick of the action, I don't know that anyone would even notice whether you moved or not.

"In advanced everything is allowed as it is the common ground where we all meet."

I disagree with this. I think there is a reasonable expectation that if you're doing ADV that you know what to do, where to go, and have sufficient skill to contribute - that you're not just leeching (on purpose or by default) and letting the rest of the team carry you.

Ah yes.. good ol' Starbase One.

This is the map where I was called a 'whale' for flying a discoprise. It's also the map where I was called a n00b for flying a Scimitar with Cannons. I was told that 'no one that knows what they're doing would build that ship in that way.' This is on a ship that routinely parses 200k in HSE.. but cool.. this guy thinks it's not good enough to help on SB1 Advanced.

Anyway, point is.. some people are jerks. And they feel they need to show everyone they're jerks by.. well.. being jerks. Just let it roll off you. You could report them, but what would it get you? It's not worth it.. just do what we do.. laugh and move on with your day. You know you're better then that, one day maybe they will learn.

While this is surely how things „should be“ reality shows a different picture. In a day and age where one can be lucky to even get a map to pop I lowered my expectations towards others to close to zero and rather make up for every lack there may be in teams myself instead of telling others to go back to normal (which, like elite, pops much less). :)

I am the same way. I used to get mad when people AFK'ed, now I just say 'well, at least they helped allow the queue to pop,' and I just do it myself.

Yes, maybe that's a sad state of affairs, but it is what it is.

i mean starbase one.. you could afk that map on elite so yea ^^

in addition parking between some of the spots activating faw and just pewpew around there not moving works well and is a good lazy mode tactic. and thats something we all like :)
