Why was the ToS D5 Raptor never released as a playable ship?

lexusk19lexusk19 Member Posts: 1,407 Arc User
The D5 ToS Raptor was made and is in the game, but they were never released as a playable ship to my knowledge. Please Cryptic, release it as a playable ship. Klinks dont have a ToS pure escort. :(

Heres a screenshot I took of my D7 next to a D5. KzcyrWy.jpg

They made models for a LOT of TOS ships in AoY, but only made the Fed ones playable.

Same reason the TOS Gorn trio, the TOS Orion ship, and the NPC Orion, Gorn, and Nausicaan ships aren't playable.

    They're KDF ships.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

I guess they left them to have something to release when they revisit TOS theme? not sure

I would like to see more TOS ships, TOS episodes for TOS KDF and TOS Romulans(and introduction of them as playable TOS specieis)

Agents of Yesterday came out in mid-2016. The only AOY related release since then was the lockbox D9, Thrai, and Atlas from early 2017. Nothing else has happened since. We're already halfway done with 2019 and there's no sign of any more to come. With Victory is Life thrown under the bus and now the story focus on Discovery era, I don't see any TOS related stuff happening anytime soon.

    Except it wasn't.

Let me know when more ViL / Gamma Quadrant missions are back again. Because we are deep into Discovery era and its representation in STO. Not to mention the show is getting a 3rd season, so you can bank on more Disco content.

ViL got dropped QUICKLY and abruptly in favor of Discovery. One moment we had ViL, Jem'Hadar, some missions. I expected to see some more Gamma Quadrant stories and then BAM!

    AGE OF DISCO

Hell, we don't even have playable Vorta yet.

All I know is, I would happily buy more ToS ships. And I feel it would be easy to release these ones they already made. Models
are done, just need stats and traits. Seems like an easy money maker.

Heck they could make them counterparts of the Fed ones... and use those traits.

Yup, just KDF versions. Simple and easy money maker for them.

They could...but they won't. Only feddie bears matter.

As well they should: After all, Romulans are merely Emo-degenerate Vulcans, and Klingons are merely space-hoodrats who can't decide whether they're wannabe-Vikings or wannabe-Samurai weeaboos.

Since According to canon the Federation exists on the sufferance of those “hood rats”, what does that make the Feddy bears? Lol

If memory serves Chekov calls the Klingons- Cossacks in TOS "Day Of the Dove" and TOS "The Trouble With Tribbles".
Not sure how Cossack is ment to be an insult however.

it wasn't - it was pretty much a meta reference to how the TOS klingons were modeled after the USSR
Like special weapons from other Star Trek games? Wondering if they can be replicated in STO even a little bit? Check this out: https://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1262277/a-mostly-comprehensive-guide-to-star-trek-videogame-special-weapons-and-their-sto-equivalents

Speaking of Gorn ships we really need some more but tac and engi this time.

As far as I can tell, this is only a theory, Originally the Agents of yesterday was probably going to include Klingon 26th Century ships in addition to the fed ones, maybe even the romulans too, and the extra TOS ship models are from the leveling ships that would have been the lower tier versions of those, just like how the fed counterparts worked. Then Either they decided it was going to be too costly for not enough profit to actually make the full set of future ships for the klinks(Wouldn't be the first time) or they just stopped partway through and just released only the fed stuff, maybe planning to come back and finish the other faction ships later.

I mean it might explain why we only have 1 26th century ship per klinks and roms in the entire game, that being the promo dreadnoughts, despite clearly there being a 26th century design aesthetic for those 2 and TOS ships galore in the game for them.

TOS is a popular themed so I hope they return to it to add more story and ships on all 3 sides.

Most likely they won't. Not for a very long time. There is Mirror Leeta to cover and the Picard show to cover when that comes around.

So don't expect anything TOS in a couple years more than likely.

I'd say release them....OR, in the VERY least, the tos skins/parts to use.

All the work into making them, why not use 'em?

Lets assume they had a crystal bowl (not a ball - the one with special k in that predict the future or look like jesus) and so a huge sales opp when Disco starts to reach/blend with TOS (though by then the producers will probably send it off on an alt reality mk 7)

They could combine effort a bit and create a DSC 23rd century Klingon character start, then reskin it for a TOS Klingon start for an expanded AoY (it probably would not take a lot of reskinning that way) and they could use the D5 as the AoY Klingon starter ship. That would open it up to also offering a z-store T6 leveling version that a lot of people would probably buy in order to "keep" their "original" ship out of time without having to worry about it not selling.

Yes they could had done a lot more out of the TOS era theme both on ships and story and playable races which would also bring them extra income too and positive PR. I hope they revisit everything in the future but I dont hope for 2019 and 2020 even though I think TOS has some sort of anniversary soon, will check later on net

It would be nice if they did the TOS expansion, but if they wait for an anniversary it will be a long wait since the 50th was in 2016 and the 60th will not be until 2026.
