What about ships tier 1-5? They will turn into junk ships. Sure a couple of consoles might be useful but no one will use them anymore. And yes, I realize that no one uses them now (in terms of veteran players) but even the new players will now shun these ships.
HOW ABOUT allowing us to pick ONE Tier 1-5 ship, per account (or even TWO) to upgrade to a T6? I LOVE The Tier Two Exeter class...
BUT I NEVER GET TO PLAY IT! You don't need to do much. It would be pretty easy to do. Add to ship stats appropriately then attach a Starship trait from a similar C-Store cruiser and viola!
Just a thought.

t5 and t5u ships are still every bit as capable as their t6 counterparts. There are only minor differences between the t5u and t6 versions of a ship. The t6 has an additional console slot, and access to specialist seating like intel, pilot and so on. t6 does come with a 5th mastery unlock for a starship trait typically, however that's purely for the unlock. Afterwards the t5u counterpart to the t6 can use that trait. I know several people in fact who are still using t5u ships because their ship has not yet received a t6 version, and are still just as capable as those of us who have made the jump to t6. In fact I myself stuck with my t5u Galor well into the Agents of Yesterday story arc and didn't swap to t6 until the Keldon itself released. The other t6 ships I had at the time simply did not give me all the power and maneuverability my Galor did for tanking.
Once the scaling mechanics are applied across the board, you will be able to use that Exeter skin if you have a ship capable of using it such as one of the Constitutions in game. I've yet to encounter a case where you can't unless there was some story based reason for it.
Also if you really want to play with a certain ship from the t1-t5 range instead of using one of the new scaling t6 ships, nothing is stopping you from doing that. The scaling mechanics changes are simply meant to give people options. For those that want to mess around with different ships, that option will still be there. For those that want to stick to one ship, they can do that, thus both sides win.
Also if you pick up the new Discovery Constitution I'm willing to bet it will be able to use the Exeter skin once it finally drops. Simply because an option exists or because "everyone's doing it," doesn't mean you have to use it also.

But I suppose that would've made people less willing to buy "new" T6 versions of them.
I agree with you!
As I've sampled the scaling vessels offered up thus far I've come to the conclusion that it is a good thing. Cryptic seems to agree and yet those who can't see the forest for the trees swiftly leaned heavily into another gripe session? So some ships get chucked into the slag heap, who cares? Like darkblade said, you can stick with any ship you choose in your universe, but taking the spoonful of sugar known as scaling ships to make the medicine go down of your own favorite vessel being sidelined and not making the grade muddies these waters for no reason.
Taking the good, getting over the bad is another way to Live long and prosper!
But they aren't the same. T6 has 1 more boff slot and spec seats over T5u, so calling them both T6 would be misleading.
I mean, aren't they already?
Considering how insanely fast the whole leveling process goes you blow through T1to T4 in a couple hours of actual playtime, even less if you're even casually doffing. T5 is the first stage where people start spending more like four hours in a single ship. Honestly except for a very select few most lower tier ships are nothing more than expensive costume unlocks.
Why is that a problem?
It has no effect on my gameplay if (random new player) is flying a scaled-down T6 ship instead of a T4.
If it actually happens it will be because more new players are buying T6 ships, putting more money into the game. That's a good thing.
How does that follow? Any T1-T5u ships you own are exactly as good as they are now after the change. You haven't lost anything, you've just gained a free upgrade to any T6 ships you own. Why does that entitle you to more free things?
Even though making all T6 ships into leveling ships is a new thing, how T6 ships have been implemented and discussing alternatives to that, which would include upgrading T5 to T6, is still an FCT topic. /Thread
