Is it just me, or are npc ships useless in battles?

Maybe it's just me. But whenever there is a npc ship that joins you in a story mission or tfo, it seems to be completely worthless in aiding you in battle. It's like they only have one beam array and take pot shots at the enemy.

    I was in Hive Onslaught more than once where the U.S.S. Houston did more DPS than my fellow team-mates.

    I think the highest numbers I logged from Delta Reinforcements were quite absurd with around 60k DPS in ISA. Not bad for a device one can activate from inventory.

    In any case my compliment to the NPC captains, they can do a lot whole more than living players seem to give them credit for. :#
