I kept hearing about how it was laggy.. I just went through it and it was nice and smooth.

I just made a female Romulan.. nothing all that special, but I like the new UI. I thought it worked quite well.

Okay, I played around with the new creator and I have to say, revert it back to the old one.

I get lag in the tailor now, from time to time, but the lag in this new UI is even worse. Granted, it's only when creating a new character so I suppose I could live with it. But it doesn't make a good first impression.

And having no Save/Load option actually did come up while I was tinkering around as I had to run some paperwork out to my boss. So if I'd been seriously making a character when this had happened, I'd have been really peeved since I'd been playing around with it for about 15-20 minutes.

The system doesn't feel all that intuitive, but I will give that a pass as it's most likely just me and being used to the old system.

And there is no option for a "static" stance while creating? I HATE when my character is moving while I'm trying to adjust sliders, especially the face. And no place that I found to give them an idle stance.

The lighting does seem to be a bit dark, but it wasn't a huge concern for me.

I can't say that I like this new UI, at all. I do appreciate the free character slot though, seeing as how I AM an altaholic. :)

I am not good at giving a score to things. So for me, my judgement is simply a pass/fail system. And this new UI gets a Fail from me.

Well, I tried it out this morning just to see the flow-through. I started down the track of a Jem'Hadar. I only got as far as the Specialization and then I went back to the Character Select Screen. I had no lag at all.

If this was around back when ViL released I definitely would not have made a regular Jem'Hadar instead of a Vanguard. Didn't really realize there were two types and I picked the wrong one. Only realized about two months later after discussions on the Forums. Too late, by then I had the bulk of the perks unlocked.

So it cost my Character 625 Marks, my Sponsoring Character 1,000 Marks, 15 Specialization Points, 5 R&D Levels. But I should have paid more attention.

    Needs an undo/redo button.

    Needs a save outfit/load outfit.

    UI is slick looking, though.

Yes, the undo/redo button should make a comeback. Saves time when you've made a mistake while making the character, or you tried the randomize button, but you like the previous settings/costume pieces better.

The save/load outfit is an important part of character generation, especially if you have an iffy connection and still like to craft characters instead of just a quick click and run. I have walked away from the game for a while when a long character crafting session ends with a connection error and the character has to be re-done from scratch (either from being too focused to remember to save it often enough or the save is bugged like it often is).

Also, I used to use a spare character slot to work out ideas that I might or might not actually take into the game, and the save/load is handy for the juggling and weighing of ideas and coming up with the best character to take the spot without the reluctance to delete a character after it is committed weighing down the process. It is also potentially useful for things like using a previous custom alien as a template for others of the same race but the save/load thing is buggy and often refuses to work for that kind of thing.

It would be nice to have a save/load that thing that has a spot for notes in fact, though I am not sure how practical it might be. One thought I had was that some of the image formats can actually store text data in addition to the picture itself though I am not sure how practical that would be in this case.

A side note, at least with new characters (I have not tried it with older ones yet) the load "uniform only" option in the tailor once you are in the game is broken, it loads the entire saved model regardless of whether the checkbox is marked or not. I used to use the option for boffs to quickly get them in uniform by templating each ship's uniform by department and sex.

Being able to see thumbnails of the various options is handy but I find myself still using the "advanced" menu and looking at the main model instead out of habit. I can see where a person new to the game might benefit from the thumbnails more though since so many games do it that way. Overall, since I tend to take my time crafting characters I did not notice the new system being any more streamlined or not but it does look good.

As others have mentioned, the factions could probably be organized better, or a button that brings up a mind map or something of the way they go together. It is a fairly minor point though since the text descriptions seem better than the old ones were. Something similar might be good for the class system too, though again it is not a big deal.

On the other hand, camera control could use some serious work. The camera height does not appear to change which means very tall and very small characters are difficult to see details on since zooming in misses the head. It is especially a problem with very small characters since to see their legs and feet you have to have the camera zoomed all the way out and the details are so much smaller that it can be a problem.

I thought the UI was straightforward and the options abundant. It wasn't overcomplicated. I don't understand this obsession with you corporate types have with making everything "simpler." We are not the bumbling buffoons that it seems many of those in all branches of modern Star Trek production think us to be. I'm tired of having things dumbed down, overcomplicated in the name of "simplicity" and made worse in the process. No thank you. My wallet is quickly closing for this company.

That option is still there in the tailor UI. So, you change your BOFFs later.

The new UI looks great, though I will miss the Save Outfit and Load Outfit buttons. Whenever they worked, they were a nice and easy way to load in character looks I'd pre-planned on a boff etc.

I have created 21 characters in this game. Not one time did I ever find the character creation UI "daunting" or "overwhelming." This is one of those changes that I feel was TOTALLY unnecessary. Just as the Mission Journal change was a disappointement, and not needed... in my humble opinion.

By the way, where is the option to change your character's height and stance in the character creator UI???????

I agree with the "No load/save outfit option" and the "No static stance" complaints. I personally like to put facial tattoos on my Chars. It's very frustrating to have the "space Barbie doll" moving around while I'm trying to position the tattoo in the perfect spot! I found my self wanting to yell at the screen "Would you TRIBBLE stand still!" while trying to adjust the facial options.

I really like the new design. Its sleek, to the point - and allows you to get into the game quickly. It's not as overwhelming as it used to be. New players (and old) will appreciate it.

The old one never was overwhelming. It was very straight forward and easy to use.

We've done a complete overhaul of the character creation system in Star Trek Online! You can find out more here:

    https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/11104033

As a former Beta Tester and advanced Player, I think I'd have liked the Creation Redesign better if it had an Advanced Tab that let you use the OLD design if you wanted...

Only issue I have with the new Character Creator is there lack of the save/load.... Otherwise, it worked fine for me... No lag... Looks a heck of a lot like the console version, too be honest...

Since this is related to this thread: I've just found a bug (which I've just reported in-game) after creating a character using the new GUI. Yesterday, I created a female Pakled character named Pellial Karili. Today -- lo and behold -- in the character list her name is now Dillumor. Excuse me? That wasn't the name I chose for her. And after choosing her, the in-game name (in top left corner of the screen) still says Dillumor. Thankfully, after pressing U, the correct name Pellial Karili can be seen. Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Update: Also, you do not get a free rename to fix the game randomly choosing a different character name than the one you chose. You have to pay either 250 or 350 zen to fix a mistake not of your own making. I've already reported this in an in-game bug report today. Please - did someone really test all this on Tribble before it was released on Holodeck? I really hope they at least tried to.

I tried it a couple of days ago.

Aside from the multiple and sometimes (ridiculously) restrictive color pallets, I've had zero problem with the original/standard character creator for the past 9yrs. Head Screen - Body Screen - Uniform Screen. Pretty basic and straightforward. Not seeing how adding multiple screens in addition to those makes it easier. Yes, the removal of the "static stance," redo, and "Load Saved" is supremely annoying, especially if I want to make a previous Bridge Officer a main character and be done with it at the start.

Maybe instead of delving into this unnecessary venture, you guys should have added some more costume options and facial features instead. I'm sure even if they were minor, they would have been welcomed much more than this. But whatever, I've learned that when the game should perhaps turn right or left, the devs don't go in either direction because they're stuck in a roundabout...

You know, if this Creator UI redesign is the beginning of a sweep over all the games UIs. Ill take it warts and all.

The mission system is ... enough said.
Beaming to my ship? Every map does it differently.
Departing a system to sector space? Again, almost as many variants as there are maps.
Getting to missions? OMG. Sometimes a sector space menu. Sometimes you go to the regular system and there's a different option at the planet.
Transwarping? Missions can - sometimes. A poorly indexed transwarp menu makes you memorize which sector various systems are in, and somewhat randomly places you in a system, or just outside it.

You know - I have a whole bunch of bridge officers. Why not roll the transwarp, beam up/down etc all into an integrated BOFF interaction?

And put some edges on the maps. Or stop them scrolling when at the edge. Nothing quite as 4th wall breaking as encountering edges in a space game that's trying to give an epic sense of scale.
