We've done a complete overhaul of the character creation system in Star Trek Online! You can find out more here:

    https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/11104033

You will earn oodles of points with me if you finally include true back as a color option.

    Needs an undo/redo button.

    Needs a save outfit/load outfit.

    UI is slick looking, though.

Well, "save/load outfit" buttons were a very important part of creating a character. They kinda have to when you have over 20 characters and a stupid amount of boffs...
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

No save/load is going to turn me off from even using the tailor anymore.

    A couple of observations:
    1. The save/load function has never worked properly for me in the character creator.
    2. The save/load function is still there in the tailor, after character creation.
I'll just keep fast-genning new characters, and "fix" them afterward at the tailor like I've always done.

There were no changes to the actual Tailor, only to the character creation UI.

Actually, the save/load function does work, but bugs sometimes causes it to not work (sometimes it's the save outfit button, sometimes it's the load outfit button).

Players can not edit their species or class at the Tailor, while they can while in the character creation screen. Since this is the case, it's easier to be able to save the character's appearance and be able to quickly load it up again, if you decided to go back to the species you've chosen earlier or if you decided to switch the character from Science to Engineering.

If you prefer to just skip character creation screen to head to the tailor, that's your prerogative.

All the same, it's best to have it available to those who do use the save/load function at the character creation screen. I've already created a character based on a BOff I had, using the save/load button prior to the Console-based creation screen that's currently used in the PC version of the game. It does come in handy.

While the new UI looks good in theory, like others have said it is not steamlined, it is klunky, and it is stretched out too much.

Also, why do we still not have the option to make individual changes to make up on female chars? Like I would like to make my fed char have blue eye shadow, pink lips, and red cheeks. But instead I am forced to do only one of those or make all them the same color, which really is stupid. I know this can be done, as I also play PWI and have since about 2 months after it came out of beta, I had this option in that game 10 years ago. So this needs to be put into this game as well.

UI's are a moot point as most people who play mmos know how to navigate most UI's. How about instead of changing things that aren't broken, you give us more options for customization. I would love to see the kind of things ppl would come up with if they had the ability to change the make up on individual areas of the face.
Helping people is my passion in life. If I see someone without a smile I try to give them mine. :)

Dear Cryptic, test this stuff before you put this on Holodeck! Use Tribble that is what it is for! Also, when stuff is on Tribble and we notice problems with it, do something about the problems before it goes to Holodeck! With that said I am not going to use the free character slot to make a new character because I already have too much characters. In the livestream you could see the lag when they opened up certain sections of the UI that needs to be addressed and fixed. Maintenance on Thursdays (unless it is a season update) should be working on fixes for the multiple problems reported by players and not new additions to the game. Thanks. :)

Without trying it out on Tribble but just eyeballing the new UI in the Blog posting and reading the comments here my take on it is this:

    * I love that STO has a UI designer that is passionate for their work. This really shows in the very friendly UI.
    * The missing Load/Save functionality I don't mind, as long as its at the Tailor later.
    * However, this new UI is for character creation only? How do I access it at the Tailor?

More to the point, my hopes for this and a future Tailor update would include:
    * The ability to build a *look* based on the gear I am wearing. I kind of miss the days when gear would automatically change my characters look.
    * "save" and "load" do clutter the UI and cause confusion with the presets. So:

"save" and "load" should some become an extension of the "Presets" - so that all the built in Presets are simply Cryptic provided defaults.
The Character Creator and Tailor will surface all built in presets AND custom looks saved in "{UserProfile}\Documents\Star Trek Online\Costume Presets" via the Preset Picker.
This removes a load button and merges two different ways to load "Presets" into one.

Finally add a "Save Preset" menu item to the character inspector so I can save a Preset file from a character that I think looks interesting in game.

What is your point sir? I used it frequently. Did you read my post? I am not the only one. A lot of people do this, they load the faces/bodies of previous characters, reroll the same character, or make a different version of an existing character. This is an unnecessary removal (like so much of this game, removing stuff for no good reason defines STO more than anything else)

I've got quite a few characters and honestly, never thought of making them clones of each other. Somewhat defeats the purpose of having different toons, imo. Can't you just take a preset toon and then when you get to the in-game tailor then use your saved build? Sure you have to go through the intro missions as generic officer, but seems a minor point in the grand scheme of things.

But then, unless putting that button back will break the game, I'd say put it back for people. Obviously lots of cloning going on. :D

Here is my 2 cents on the new interface..

    PROS:
    1. Nicely streamlined
    2. Easy to use
    3. Clean.

    CONS:
    1. Laggy as hell
    2. Character sometimes looks like he is standing in the dark.
    3. Faction order with a side note for those factions which have to select FED or KDF is missing.
    4. UI scaling on the main character select screen is wrong (The first tab for creating a new character on the character select screen, there is slight overlapping of words and logos on the tab..Also the font on some of the creation tabs are damn big..It needs to be scaled down..)

All in all 2.5/5 its refreshing and nice but can be better..

Guys, you are aware that the "save/load" feature was only removed from the initial character creation screen and not from the in-game Tailor, right?

    But why?
I myself enjoyed having that it was one of my favorite things of the game. I.E. I might start a new toon as Engineer, but changed my mind after making it, BUT I really am happy with the look.
I restart the toon and with the old way reload my saved look and start the toon again.

Not now I have to run around, in an Outfit I do not like until I get to the tailor.

Please give us back our save and load, I like most of the rest of it. BUT not having the Save/Load is a BAD Idea.
  • xparibaxxparibax Member Posts: 8 Arc User
I know everyone has mentioned this- but removing the save/load options is a less-then-useful idea. I make my new characters on a previously created one, tweak it just so, make them a few more looks and save them so I don't have to fuss on that when I make the new character, I can just dive right in. I'm sure I'm not the only one that does this.
Please reconsider- it's quite cumbersome not to have this available, I would find this a big turn off to making new characters if it would remain.
  • madhatch1971madhatch1971 Member Posts: 196 Arc User
I really like the new design. Its sleek, to the point - and allows you to get into the game quickly. It's not as overwhelming as it used to be. New players (and old) will appreciate it.

The *only* tweak I would suggest adding is a static pose button. Helps with face sculpting, but I note that the Tailor UI is still the same, and changes can still be done there.

I love you have the option between basic and advanced. The whole process feels more organized and natural. It's a very nice update, and a welcome change 😊
People ask how long have I been playing STO - well the answer is simple: I have been here since the beginning. I just haven't always had a lot to say.
