I would like to suggest a C-store option to boost a character to max level.

imadude3imadude3 Member Posts: 825 Arc User
Since you can create a Dominion character that starts at level 60, i would like to suggest adding a booster to the C-store that you can use to boost ONE character to max level (or level 60) though i would also suggest that if such a thing was added, it should not allow you to buy/activate it until you have leveled at least one non-dominion character up to max level.
Thoughts?

I like lower level missions, so I would not need this.

When there is a experience event and if you buy boosters on top of that.. You easily reach level 60 in two days. lol.

Well, i'm kind of "both ways" about this… i create characters for my ships, not the other way around, so i kinda like the proposal, but on the other hand, its not difficult to level one.. thou i must confess that with my work, i have less and less time to level one properly...

Why not? If there are lazy people that want to financially support the game. Let 'em. I'll keep playing my way.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

Been wanting this feature for years. Only end game matters, dont want to waste time in the lower lvls. Would gladly pay up to 2000 Zen for the feature.

Lots of other games have options like this, I would pay for this option too.

it would be more like 5000.

They already have a "jump to 60" token coded, marketing emails it to random people for unknown reasons. Since people want it, they should pick a price and add it to the zen store.
  • seaofsorrowsseaofsorrows Member Posts: 10,918 Arc User
    Sure.. why not.

If people will pay for it and bring money into the game then cool by me.

I wouldn't personally use it, but if there are people that want it then they should consider it. It's definitely not unusual for an MMO to offer something like this, pretty much all of them do it already.

I'd support this. I've got nothing against the low level content but I've already played it multiple times. If I create a new character I usually already know what ship they'll be flying and what that character's going to do when they hit endgame long before I get there. I'd happily drop a little bit of zen to skip the middleman and just get there now. Maybe Cryptic could make it so you have to level a character to 60 on a faction to unlock the ability to purchase the skip token on that faction?

If you guys want to get a toon to 65 it can be done in as little as 13 hours on a normal day. On an xp weekend my record is about 9 hours. Since we're allowing for cash to be involved here's how you do it. First and foremost get the toon to level 12. Assuming you skip the tutorial you should come out of there at about level 2-4. From there do a select few of the early episodes. All in all about an hour of playtime, hour and a half at most to get to 12. From there buy a 10 pack of keys from the cstore and flip them on the exchange. From there search "unspecified" on the exchange and look for the tzenkethi ones, 23rd century, or some like those as they seem to give some of the better bits of xp. Pick up about 15 of those and run them. You will probably will only be able to run about 9 of them starting out. From there just let their clocks run out and you will get a ton of xp. usually 2 to 3 sets of this will get you to 65 easily enough. With the current going rate of keys and everything at the time of this post, it won't take much if we're assuming a cash purchase has been involved.

As for the idea of a token itself to get an instant max level toon, I am 100% against this for a number of reasons. It's extremely easy to hit 65 in this game, especially using the method I outlined above. Without some serious safeguards in place, it's way too easy for someone to come in on day one, buy a max level toon, and then try to stumble their way through advanced and elite content with they clearly are not ready for. I saw it in WoW and SWTOR when they released these boosts. For at least a good 5 months after those boosts released it was nigh impossible to get anything done that involved touching the instance queues. I personally have no issues with helping new folks or new folks joining queues. What I do have a problem with is if someone queues for something they clearly are not ready for and can't pull their own weight. In WoW and SWTOR it encouraged far far too many instances of exactly that. Once in awhile you got the veteran player simply cheesing an alt through some stuff, but more often than not you got a player who had queued for something they simply were not ready for. All it did was annoy everyone involved. It annoyed the person buying the boost because they typically got yelled at for joining something they weren't ready for, and it annoyed the other folks by having make up for that person not knowing what to do. That's one of the chief reasons as to why I oppose it.

As for the example with the dominion, they're essentially a hero class. They're meant for those that have played through the game awhile and are meant to be a "hero class" of sorts, kind of like STO's version of the Death Knight from WoW. To even create a DK you needed to have at least one other toon to level 55 in order to create one, meaning you've played at least up to that point. Dominion toons are the exception and not the rule to the usual means of leveling.

As far as cash wise if enough folks want it then they may do it and I wouldn't blame them because they're a business. However this is one time I seriously hope they don't do it.

Whilst I don't play it, SWTOR has something that does this - the 'Master's Datacron'. I only dabbled in SWTOR (personally didn't enjoy the gameplay and found their F2P model offensive) but from what I recall said item boosts a new or low-level character to max, and drops a bunch of endgame gear in their inventory.

the grind in SWTOR put me off playing more than a few of the classes, i am not ashamed to admit that when they added that thing to the store (at a steep discount at the beginning) i bought 10 of them so i could just enjoy the story of the classess i had not yet played without having to worry about level and gear.
The gear you get is not true end-game gear, it is the minimum you need to play such things as raids on the lowest difficulty, i would say it is on par with STOs Very Rare Mk XII gear.

The devs mentioned looking at possibily doing this when asked during one of the VIL Livestreams. No commitment on actually doing it, though.

Again - SWTOR's so-called F2P model was one of the factors that made me turn the game off and uninstall it.

don't blame you for that, i tried to play it F2P, never again, if i feel like playing it now, i either buy, or wait until i have the cash to buy a subscription.

I've found myself doing this often as well. I have four Temporal Agents from Agents of Yesterday, a single Gamma Recruit and another solo Delta Recruit. Beyond that I have a couple of Dahar Masters and five Reman/Romulan/Liberated Borg Romulans. I've lost count of how many I completely leveled up doing just that, then grew tired of and sacrificed in a transporter accident?

It's way too easy and too fast to get to 65 already....so not for this at all.

If you want to start at 60, go Jem'Hadar. That's what they are there for.

Since the OP included the idea of only allowing it to be bought/used if a player already had a max level character, I'm all for it. A lot of us, like me, would likely never buy one as we like, or at least don't mind, leveling toons, but a lot also hate the leveling grind and would pay good money to avoid it.
As for players reaching max level without knowing how to play and possibly ruining TFOs, how would having a max level token change anything ? STO has tons of max level players who have no clue how to actually play the game ruining TFOs already.

Make it happen, make some more cash money for the game.

So, because it's easy.. you oppose the idea of cryptic using it as a revenue stream?

That doesn't make much sense. I agree with you that it's ridiculously easy to get to 65, but if someone wants to pay money to bypass that small amount of work then I say let them.

It's not like we have to worry about an influx of level 65's that don't know how to play.. the game is already full of those.

I mean I think you have to be some crazy level of lazy to not just level your character yourself since it is easy as all heck

As far as I'm concerned because it is so easy to level here and DOffing gets you there without doing any content I dont see why Cryptic should not monetize the process some more. We already lots of people in randoms that have no clue and no gear (part of life for a F2P MMO) so something like this is a no brainer. With that said, I really appreciated they treated the Jem as a hero class with requisite level behind it.

Have to admit, kinda irritated by the "it's easy to get to level 65" comments.

I agree, it IS easy to get to level 65. But that implies that getting the character to said level is the end of the story.

I've said this before, one reason I'm extremely reluctant to make new characters is the grind!

Yeah I can get a new character to 65 in very short order; but then what? I mean, said character will only have played the number of episodes and content necessary to get to that level. By the same token that character will have to start grind-fests like Reputations, Admiralty, R&D etc from scratch. Some players may like that. Some don't - and I am one of them.

Oh no.. I totally agree with all of this.

Getting to 65 is the easy part.. and once done.. that's where it really starts to suck. I have 2 character slots that will likely never be filled just because I don't want to slog through all that TRIBBLE yet again. Getting to 65 is easy, then you have to start doing what? 11 different reps? grinding fleet marks.. getting all your rep gear and mission rewards.. upgrades, duty officer schools.. admiralty schools.. level all your starships for traits.. just the thought of it alone makes me want to peel the skin off my face.

We all know it's not the end of the story.. not even close. Now if the token also came with a few maxed out reputations, duty officer schools, admiralty tracks, etc.. then we might have an item that is actually worth something. I actually think that getting from level 1-65 is the fun part. Once you hit 60, it really starts to suck.

    I wouldn't use a 65 boost. I'd use a "npc enemy torpedo damage reduced by 90%" boost though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
