Hello; I have been Champions Online for the last few months now, and one of you STO players decided to give CO a try. I thought what the heck I give STO a try (See posting here
https://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/championsonline#/discussion/1212606/joining-co-after-years-of-sto).
I am looking for friends and/or someone to show me the ropes, answer questions, currently I have TOS Captain/Ship - USS El Paso (named after my real 1st Ship in the US Navy).
I am a former member of the USN and worked in the engine rooms of those steel beasts, in the Gator Navy BTW.
I normally play during the early morning hours 2AM to 5AM EST before work, then a little after work. I would also be interested in grouping up with a Fleet.
BUT I am not PvP player!
I am thinking of making new Captain for Romulan Republic after watching this video -

If you are interested in giving pointers, to me I am sgtken60 in game send me a message.

There's really nothing stopping you from trying one of each faction. While for the most part Fed, TOS Fed, and Discovery Fed are flavors with different starting experiences, KDF and Romulan have some pretty interesting story too. Dominion is a high level starter however, so be aware of that.
Well first off thank for your reply, I started my Romulan-Alien Engineer https://imgur.com/gallery/1idVakL, I am enjoying him a lot and taking your advice so I started a Klingon Engineer this morning.
So far I am impressed with my little Romulan Bird of Prey, and I picked engineers because from what I found out from reading they are the Tanks in the game, which I have the most luck with while learning a game, and also at one time I was an Engineer myself.
On the ground its a bit more defined, but in space any captain can fly any class of ship and do well. And you can actually have several ships set up if you feel like mixing it up too. So if you feel like running a Cannon build Escort, you can. Want to switch into a broadside beam cruiser? Go ahead.
Engineers can be pretty fun on the ground too.
I got my Romulan Engineer set up as what I call the Drone Master. Basically I picked up as many of the kit modules that summon a pet as I could. While I can only use 5 of them... I'd compare it a bit to classes in other games like the Necromancer in Diablo. Minions to help with the fighting.
Feel free to ask for specific advice. One thing to keep in mind: you can replay missions to get the reward items multiple times, so, for example, the cool tactical console that buffs your chosen weapons that you got at Mk IV, you can go back later and get Mk VIII or XI, or whatever level your captain is at the time. I would hoard Dilithium until you are sure what you want to spend it on, so instead of buying or crafting upgrades to your gear in the early game, find the missions that give what you want and repeat them every few levels.
My Romulan used the Caustic Plasma weapons from a mission all the way until she was getting Reputation gear. I had to replay the mission that offers them more than a few times.
Be sure to refine your dilithium cap every day! It takes a while to build up useful amounts without a credit card.
Thank you both for your advice and response, my little Romulan/Alien Engineer (Khaeccux) is level 10 as of this morning, and I got a new ship too the Dhelan Warbird.
And I galdly take any advice I can get or useful links, etc.
At level 10 you can do no wrong. Try different things and see how they work.
Energy Weapons lose power with distance, both yours and the enemy's. If you really want to do damage get within 5 but not inside of 2km. If you are too close when the enemy explodes, you die with him! Similarly, if the enemy is bunched up, make the little one explode and it will injure or kill its buddies.
The Romulan mission "Tradecraft" offers a Paratrinic Shield. Get that, and every chance you can, go back and get a new one at the next higher Mark. It is the best shield you can get until you get into the high levels, but by then you'll know what you want. It heals very very slowly on its own in combat, but nothing can take a punch like the Paratrinic. Transfer Shield Strength, Science Team, and Tactical Team are very good at repairing damaged shields, and all can be used on an ally as well. (Science and Tactical Teams are considered must-have abilities by some players.)
Fire a High Yield Plasma Torpedo into a shield facing that has been knocked offline. You have to be close for the torp to have a chance to hit the damaged shield facing, so be prepared to run!
Wow thank you so much, I will give it a try in the morning.
"Escorts", like the T'liss-class warbird or the Klink Bird of Prey, are built for quick maneuvering. I like to place a minelayer in my aft weapons, once I have two slots there; I'll do a strafing run with my forward weapons, then as I peel away at the end to set up my next run, I can drop them a few self-aiming presents on the way.
Now I like that idea, thanks
This game, which I avoided for a while even though having been a Star Trek fan most of my life. Reason? Because I knew I would get caught up into it to easy, so I maybe slowing down my Champions Online playtime now LoL.
Let us explore it... together. Each man hides a secret pain. It must be exposed and reckoned with. It must be dragged from the darkness and forced into the light. Share your pain. Share your pain with me... and gain strength from the sharing.
Thanks KHAN5000!!!!! sorry, for the bad JTK impression
