Starbase Pegasus. Dani and Johanna are escorted into a courtroom on the Starbase, with security personnel and prosecution counsel waiting. Dani and Johanna sit down at a desk on one side of the room facing the bench. Once everyone takes their place, a security lieutenant enters from the door behind the bench and snaps to attention.*

Lieutenant: The Judge-Advocate presiding, Admiral Jaruk.

*An ageing Bajoran Admiral enters with a PADD tucked under his arm, taking the central seat at the bench as the security officer leaves. After placing his PADD on the desk, Jaruk chimes a replica brass marine bell.*

Jaruk: This Formal Inquiry is hereby convened. The clerk will record the current startime. This inquiry is convened to determine whether the Defendant should face a Court Martial on the following charges:

    1. Treason - on grounds of espionage and conspiring with a hostile power.
    2. Mutiny - on grounds of insubordination and assault of a fellow officer.

    Will the Defendant please rise?

Jaruk: Captain Allen, you stand as Advocate for the Defence, correct?

    *Dani stands.*

Dani: That is correct, Your Honour.

Jaruk: You fulling understand and accept your responsibilities in this capacity?

    Dani: I do.

Jaruk: Very well, this Inquiry accepts you as Defence-Advocate.

*He turns to the Prosecution bench.*

Commander Vandus, you stand as Advocate for the Judge Advocate General's Office. Is this correct?

    *The Andorian prosecutor stands.*

    Vandus: It is, Your Honour.

Jaruk: You fully understand and accept your responsibilities in this regard?

    Vandus: I do, Your Honour.

Jaruk: This Inquiry accepts you as Prosecutor-Advocate. You have submitted to the Advocacy Board the charges of Treason and Mutiny. Are there any further charges you wish to issue before this Inquiry before I request a plea entry?

Vandus: Yes, Your Honour. The Prosecution submits the following further charges:

*Dani is watching Vandus in mild surprise.*

    1) Gross Insubordination.
    2) Conduct Unbecoming of an Officer.
    3) Conspiring with a Hostile Power.
    4) Disclosure of classified information in violation of the National Security Act of 2557.

Jaruk: Captain, I dare presume you wish to file an objection to these charges?

Dani: Yes, Your Honour. Gross Insubordination and Conduct Unbecoming are both petty charges contributory to the Charge of Treason, not separate. Similarly, conspiracy and disclosure of classified information are both contributory to Treason.

Jaruk: I'm inclined to concur. Objection sustained, the submission is rejected. Do you have any further submissions, Prosecutor?

    Vandus: No, Your Honour.

Jaruk: Very Well. Defence-Advocate, does your client wish to enter a plea at this time?

Dani: With respect, Your Honour, the Defence wishes to object to a specific aspect of one of the specific charges.

    Jaruk: I'll allow it. Proceed.

Dani: The Charge of Mutiny includes the grounds of Assaulting a fellow Officer. We request the Prosecution immediately provide it's basis for that charge.

Jaruk: The evidence for each charge will be presented throughout the course of the inquiry, Captain.

Dani: With respect, Your Honour, we only get this opportunity to oppose a charge, and the Defence has seen no supporting evidence for this charge. It will also determine any plea we enter for the charge of Mutiny.

Jaruk: A plea you may enter at any stage, Captain. Objection Overruled.

Dani: Very Well. No plea at this stage, Your Honour.

Jaruk: Then let us proceed with the Evidence. Prosecutor-Advocate Vandus, you will now provide your evidence for the charge of Mutiny, since it seems to be a matter of objection.

*Dani sits down and gives Johanna a comforting look.

Tora Ziyal. Karen stands up and holds out a hand to help Serah.*

    Karen: Thanks.

*There's a chime at the door where Susan and Daya are waiting.*

Vandus: Your Honour, the Prosecution offers Exhibits A and B as evidence of the charge of Mutiny. Exhibit A.

*He shows the surveillance footage from the internal sensors of Johanna's arrest, including her attempted suicide.*

Dani: If I may, Your Honour?

Jaruk: The Bench will hear the Defence-Advocate.

Dani: Is the Inquiry to understand that the accusation of assault is based on the defendant attempting to shoot herself?

    Jaruk: The Prosecutor-Advocate will answer.

Vandus: Your Honour, the charge of assaulting a fellow officer is the closest in the Naval Code to self-harm.

    Dani: Objection.

    Jaruk: Proceed.

Dani: The charge of Assaulting a Fellow Officer is very clear Your Honour. It does not include self-harm or attempted suicide. In fact, the only charge which the Defence submits would fit that action is Conduct Unbecoming.

Jaruk: Sustained. Do you have any further evidence supporting this aspect of your charge, Commander?

    Vandus: No, Your Honour.

Jaruk: Then this Inquiry finds insufficient evidence for the grounds of assault.

Vandus: In that case Your Honour, the Prosecution wishes to revise the charge to grounds of Conduct Unbecoming of an Officer and Insubordination.

Jaruk: The Clerk will log the revision. Continue.

Vandus: In support of the grounds of Insubordination, we submit Exhibit A and Exhibit B here.

*The screen shows the transmission log, showing Johanna's outgoing transmission hidden.*

In violation of regulations and shipboard protocol aboard the R.S.S. Columbia, Lieutenant Kraus attempted to conceal an unauthorised outbound transmission. This is a clear act of insubordination.

Jaruk: Does the Defence wish to cross-examine?

Dani: No, Your Honour. We do however move the charge of Mutiny be dismissed.

    Jaruk: Explain.

Dani: The charges which make up the wider charge of Mutiny are both petty violations. The Defence submits the Security and Officers' logs of the R.S.S. Columbia showing that Lieutenant Kraus has been in confinement for a period of two months. We submit that this is sufficient to consider those charges as dealt with by the Defendant's C.O.

Vandus: Objection! The Defence-Advocate is the Defendant's C.O.!

Jaruk: Advocate, I will not have shouting or yelling in this Courtroom. The Defendant has a legal entitlement to ask her Captain to act as Defence-Advocate. Objection Overruled.

Captain, I will deal with the move to dismiss at the conclusion of this Inquiry.

    Continue, Commander.

Vandus: The Prosecution would now present evidence for the more substantial crime of Treason, Your Honour.

*Johanna stays quiet but is clearly disturbed at the mention of her attempted suicide*

    ***

Serah: Yeah? *She looks confused and waves at Susan and Daya*

Susan: We need to talk to her about something.

    Karen: Okay, so talk.

*Starbase Pegasus. Vandus begins with Johanna's own confession and RNI files on her father.*

    Dani: Objection, Your Honour.

    Jaruk: Proceed.

Dani: Your Honour, the Defence had secured a plea bargain with the Judge Advocate General and Republic Naval Intelligence. The agreement stated the charge of Treason would be dropped for the charge of Gross Negligence. The Defence questions whether the Judge Advocate General's office has acted in good faith.

Jaruk: I have no record of such an agreement. Do you have evidence?
