Just a friendly question - do STO developers actually.....

A general questin, I'm NOT reporting a glitch or bug.

Do STO developers actually read feedback and bug reports around here?

It's just a question not meant to trigger bad vibes but it would be nice and a peace of mind to know that developers interact and active with these forums.

Another reason I ask is because I always miss a chance to catch them in Ten Forward. Also from my lurking I've read a couple threads shut down with legit, accurate bugs and glitches by moderators and ban the OP for reporting the glitches, and I became suspicious when a moderator DM'd me and assured me a developer would get my bug report (I'm old as dirt and recognize BS a mile away so I felt that was "damage control" to shut me up but I know better) so that being said, it would be nice to know we can get the attention of developers if we find legit problems.

For the note, I'm not angry, mad or triggered, I'm enjoying the Q Winter Wonderland and new Jem'Hadar Vanguard so I'm good, please don't boot or ban or hate, the game is still 2 years young on Xbox One and bugs still pop up at times.

Thanks in advance.

    Read the FCTs!

    I did, but no telling how old those are and how developers feel today and besides, it's written by moderators, not actual STO staff.

    Write full thread titles? Yep, as that's an FCT too.

    Yes, they do. And don't let anyone here try to say different. Just because they don't post here often, doesn't mean that they don't read what does get posted here. In fact, during the last livestream, Rose mentioned that there is someone assigned to read bug reports in particular.

    Also, discussion of moderation is against forum rules, but for the record: No one has been banned for reporting bugs. People get banned for behavior and rule breaking, not for reporting bugs.

    Bug threads in the Bug Subforum are generally never closed and necro rules do not apply to them as bugs can pop back up and those threads serve to track the bug's history. General Discussion, however, is not the place to be reporting bugs. There's even a nifty little sticky thread that mentions that on page 1 of General Discussion. Such threads may be closed with a notice to properly report the bug in the Bug Subforum, if it cannot be readily determined which platform the bug applies to (there are separate Bug Subforums for PC, XBOX, and PlayStation).

    If a moderator DM'd you to say that they were bringing your bug to the attention of a developer, then you can be sure that it was done. I've personally seen those correspondences as part of the community team. In fact, besides moderating these forums, we do a lot of reporting of issues that we've personally seen in-game or see getting reported here in an attempt to expedite getting those things looked at. Do be aware that fixes for console do take a bit longer due to having to go through separate processes that PC doesn't have to deal with.

    Glad to hear that you're enjoying Q's Winter Wonderland and thanks for being part of the forum community. :smile:

    Thanks for your input, I haven't been moderated and don't plan to be since this account sync with my Xbox and twitter so I apologize if it looks like I was discussing a punishment I didn't receive, unless you meant we can't talk about others getting the hammer?

    I do make sure I post in the right spot (like the academy and bug sections)

    To also add to what my cohort said above, it also takes time to fix bugs as well. If one of us tells you a bug report has been passed up the chain then you can rest assured it was done. With that said it takes time to fix a bug properly. Coding is a very precise thing and a single one or zero out of place can bring the entire thing crashing down, be it a full on studio production like STO, or small time modding for older games like what I do. Simply know what is broke is half the battle. A proper fix could take 5 minutes or 5 weeks or more depending on the severity of the break. I wish it were as simple as flipping switches but it never is. If you have bugs, then feel free to post them in the appropriate bug report forum for your platform. We don't allow bug reporting in gen disc because it prevents devs from seeing it as easy and prevents bugs from getting fixed as easily.

    As for hunting down the bugs, there is the QA team at Cryptic that do a great job, but they're still human and can't catch every single thing. Afterwards there are folks like myself and the Bug Hunters that try to track down anything else that may have made it through or that has cropped up afterwards and report it to Cryptic for fixing. In fact myself and my crew of test monkeys as we call ourselves, put in closed to 200 hours alone testing the skill tree revamp when that happened.

    Point being, there is alot of testing, both by the QA team, and then by Bug Hunters like myself that goes on playerside and Dev side. We don't talk about the testing results always because of nature of what some of those bugs can involve.

    We all assume that they read the forums, even if they don't always answer.

    Some of us would just like more communication and get frustrated from time to time because we feel that's an area that could use improvement.

    If you're asking if you should keep reporting bugs, I would say yes. At the worst, you waste a minute of your time posting it, at best.. you bring it to the attention of someone that can fix it.

    It's probably best to proceed from the assumption that Cryptic reads the forums even if they don't reply. Hopefully, one day they will start to engage the player base on a more consistent basis, but that's another issue.

    they read specific forums-like the bug reports, but consider that te Dev team have a real job; making the game, so they can't really spend hours upon hours reading through the forums (or Reddit, or even Twitter). And, there are some areas they just aren't going to visit on the forums for...reasons.

    because that's part of what we have a community manager for, to provide the 'mood summary' and occasionally highlight specific threads of interest, because they devs have got a job to do. and precious few hands to do it with,and if they spent all day reading the forums and catching up with everybody's wishlist, gripeslist, rants and political/religious/cultural digressions, they'd never have time to actually do their job.

    except in fiction, deadlines don't meet themselves.

    I know all of that, I never thought that the Art guys or the ship designers spent all day reading forums, nor is it realistic to expect them to.

    We do however have someone who's job it is to at least convey information on the various forms of media (forums, Reddit, Social Media) and that area has been lacking for some time.

    I would never expect anyone to read through every post on every forum, that would be far too much to ask of anyone. When people say that 'devs don't read the forum,' I think they all know better. Most are just reacting out of frustration at the lack of communication that exists between the development staff and the player base.

    I'm sure a couple of them at least skim the boards on a semi regular basis.

    @seaofsorrows
    Well said. You made excellent points.

    @patrickngo
    I sense a condescending tone in your replies. Seaofsorrows was spot on with his point. The thing I was looking for is whether or not they're active in their own website, not twitter or reddit, and not to sound entitled but it would be nice to know if the devs appreciate our appreciation and our support of the game. If you actually invested real money in a game then I'm sure you'd like to know something as well. You're making it sound like I want an actual conversation with developers on a daily basis on the forums. I'm also an active Diablo 3 player and I've seen developers pop out, heck, I remember a few developers for Aliens:CM popped out after that disaster.

    That being said, I am not one of those people who are frequently bugging developers with a bug every 20 minutes, yes I was frustrated with no Gumarre reward from R&D, but it wouldn't hurt to see an update patch list and/or a status "we acknowledge" certain bugs post once in a while.

    @baddmoonrizin
    Since the questions was somewhat answered, would you please close the thread? I'm afraid I shook a beehive with this topic.

    'Read' and 'do something about it' are 2 different things.
