    The solution to eliminating the problem is to eliminate classes entirely. Why do we even need them? It is not as if players were making an informed choice when they first chose one.

    What was that about doing away with the class system?

    Simple fix: do away with the class-specific captain skills at endgame (or completely). Give every starting character their skills at creation, as a crutch, then do away with them once you have the full suite of BOFF seats available to you, post-50. Or else eliminate them altogether.
    Maybe make characters have nothing more than a slight cooldown reduction and/or skill bonus to tac, sci, or eng BOFF powers.
    Otherwise, this is always going to come up.

    ehre's your bigger problem;

    the game is eight years old.

    changes like you propose are a great idea when the game is still in initial development, as in before release, because tehre's less spaghetti code to go about revamping.

    it's the same problem the Devs ran into when they went to their tech guy and said "We want to cross the factions" and were told no, it's too complicated.

    simple in concept, impossible in execution on the live game server.

    this is kinda why people are talking nerfs and buffs to the existing careers-it's because that is doable without scrapping the engine.

    Captain skills are already level-restricted, and class-specific CD reductions already exist within the skill tree. Not sure how altering either's triggers would require scrapping the engine.
