Neutronium Alloy console worthless?

I have 3 neutronium alloy consoles on my warbird and it shows I have about 36% resistance rating to every damage type, that number is after the diminished returns effect. I go into space combat against some kind of Vaadwaur ship, an assault cruiser I think for an episode quest, and somehow it was able to hit 72k and 92k damage on me in a single hit in two separate occasions, instantly killing me both times of course. So can someone tell me how neutronium consoles are helping me if enemies can still hit higher than my total ship hull is in a single hit? Also neither of those attacks were the Vaadwaur's special attack where they make X's appear in space and shoot at them for massive damage, no both hits looked to be just normal attacks.

What MK and quality do those consoles have? Because from how it looks you've just thrown some low level vendor thrash into those 3 slots which give you next to no resistance.
That aside I've you're getting totally obliterated in story episodes there might be more stuff wrong.
Check if you're playing on either advanced or elite difficulty, that can TRIBBLE over people who aren't aware of that.
If your setting is on normal and you're still getting yout theeth kicked in then it's time to look at your overall build.

I'm on normal difficulty, although with the NPC's hitting higher than my hull is and having 4x more hull than my ship does, it feels like an advanced difficulty. My consoles certainly aren't vendor bought, I got them from an episode quest that gave neutronium consoles as a reward, I have 2 rare mk 12's and 1 very rare mk 13 I believe. The 2 rare ones giving about 18% resistance each and the very rare one giving about 21%. The problem is that non-boss NPC ships shouldn't be able to hit that high at all on normal, that's more like an advanced difficulty thing, this game just cheats so much when it comes to how strong enemies can hit and how high their health is.

i don't know if that can be useful; personally i don't care about shields like most of the time, the shields are dstroyed by a lot of powers -borg stuff, terran stuff etc -. I have only 33, 34 for all my resistances, and in my opinion it's enough, I use a lot of skills to restore my hull, + I spent my skill points for the resistances and the hull capacity + the amount of hull restored when using an engineering skill. i don't have points in damage control, it's useless.

I use also this doff (purple): https://sto.gamepedia.com/Specialization:_Hazard_System_Officer. Brace for impact is an important skill when you fly escort/destroyer.

And like your ship doesn't have a lot of hull, you must leave the fight when your hull is low; a strategic retreat is not dishonorable.

btw, i fly only escorts without problems.

what specializations do you use? personally i use intel (primary), pilot (secondary).

there are 2 consoles useful and free from missions: 1 from Brushfire, and the other from Ragnarok : https://sto.gamepedia.com/Console_-_Engineering_-_Trellium-D_Plating.

+ if you have reach tier4 in the nukara rep, you can use the tier4 skills which are based on your auxiliary powers (defense, and offense). I use both on all my ships and for all my toons.

btw you must avoid the vaadwaur attack with the X, with an escort/destroyer you can't absorb this attack, well personally i don't try :pensive: . so you can use evasive manoeuvers, attack pattern omega or Auxiliary Power to Inertial Dampers.

Hey...there is so much gear to keep up with in this game. Make sure your gear matches your Level. As the Mark level of the gear you have gets more powerful as it goes up. As well as the COLOR of the equipment.

These Wiki pages helped me figure out if I was using Level appropriate gear as I got promoted through the missions. I still have to refer to it for my new characters.

MARK are the tiny Roman number on each piece of gear, on the icon itself.
As you get higher up in Level in the game....you want that Roman number to match the chart in the Wiki.

Lower levels are blocked from using higher Mark gear, but higher levels can still use lower mark gear.
But it just won't be as strong for the content you are pitted against.

    +++++++++++++++++

Lower Mark number like Mark III (3) and Mark IV (4) is for when your character is between Level 10 to Level 20 (Lieutenant Commander or Centurion).

But when your character is between Level 40 to Level 45...you will want to make sure your gear is at Mark IX (9) or Mark X (10).

    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Mark

    Here is the rank stuff:
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Player_rank

Hmmm...some of these wiki charts are a bit wonky looking... but the info is there.

It was one of the later Delta episodes pryor, I'm not sure which one. Also I've been told something like that where2, but I'm a lvl 65 so that would mean I would need mk 15 gear which is near impossible to get. I consider mk 12 the end range for free to play gear and anything above that is pretty much for pay to play players. Mk 15 gear is just far too expensive to buy on the exchange for free players like myself and to upgrade something to mk 15 people say I should wait for a double upgrade week, which is what I'm waiting on. So I use all mk 12 gear on my ship, I've beaten every episode in the game on another character using only mk 12 gear and I will again if this double upgrade week takes too long to come around.

You dont need mk 15 Gear. Mk 12 Very rare will get ya by. Just got to build for it.Sol Defense is a very good set to put on if your not so good in the heals/resistance area. All 3 pieces. Quantum Phase is not bad either..Check the exchange for Honored Dead Star ship trait. Some of the Rep stuff will also help.

Keep in mind there is a diminishing return for Armor consoles. You get the most "bang" for your buck with 1 console.
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Damage_resistance

I fly a sci ship so..I cycle Aux2Sif (with and without the Placate doff) because its a fast heal thats up every 10-15 seconds or so.
Noteable Boffs for defence and resistances--> Attack Pattern Omega..Aux2Damp (Doffed is best). However this also starts a cool down with Aux2Sif so Be careful.

If your getting too much aggro..Switch to single target abilities Like Torpedo High Yield, Surgical strikes 3 or Beam Overload. Then focus fire on 1 target and break off to get out of range to heal.

What ship are you flying...I can fly with ya if ya want jacobs@odinforever20000

Odin, I have 3 pieces of the Solanae set. Also I know about the diminishing returns, I thought the 36% that 3 consoles gave would actually make a difference but nope it didn't so I switched to 3 very rare mk 12 field emitters to give more shield power. Also for who wants to know, I'm using a Mogai Heavy Warbird Retrofit T5.

    Not Solanae...This
    https://sto.gamepedia.com/Desperate_Defenses

2 piece grants + 25 All Res and 35 Kinetic Coupled with

Aux to Defence Nukara Trait if you have some power in aux. @ 40 aux that should be +10 All damage resistance.

Those 2 should bring you to 35 All Res or 25.7%

    Now if you add:

Miracle worker as a secondary as every heal (which usually have a resistance buff) will add +30 all for 10 seconds (Fix Em up II) + Aux to Sif 1 and/or Hazard Emitters 1 and/or a total of + 51.6 or + 45.6 All Damage Resistances)

That should put you at a cyclical res of +80 to +90 total (43%-45% Resistance) in combat.

If you add Attack Pattern Omega 1 or 3...That could be as much as +102 to +127 (48%-51% Resistance) in combat.

Nice to have but I get it if you cant get em.
    Personal Space trait:
Repair Crews (6.9m on the exchange)

If you were to have Starship Traits
Honored Dead (1.6m on the exchange as im typing..) +100 All Energy Resistance at max stacks <- GET THIS NOW
Shield Overload (Sagittarius Temporal Cruiser unlocked via Dilithium Store if on Fed character)+75 All Damage resistance for 30 sec

Honestly I run no res consoles due to the above stuff adding to my resistances..But if you would like help add me in game.

sadly, MKXII is not enough. the vaadwaur are easy to fight, but at lvl65, you fight also the tzenketi (the primitive specie lol) and with MK XII gear, it will be very diificult. When you are lvl65, you fight lvl65 ennemies. MK XIV weapons are great.

+ if you want to do advanced stf at lvl65, your MK XII gears won't be sufficient. tzenkethi, terrans, undines are flying walls with stupid powerful attacks. the problem is not you, but only the mechanic of this game. you need dps to kill ennemies; that's all.

I dont have Mk 15 Gear (Notable exception Science Related Consoles). Most is either 13 or 14 (Some Very rare to Ultra Rare) and I Smash through enemies at Lvl 65 even doing adv ques in my Temporal Dread Cruiser and my Mat'Ha Escort when not in my Sci boats..
