    New Arcadia

    UNSC command.

Hammond is in a briefing with a UNSC specialist team and Dr.Halsey

Hammond: right now we don’t have the means to monitor the situation fully. There is still a lot of confusion from the visgrad attack and the loss there.

Maj. Flynn: what are our loses from the attack.

Hammond: finally total is 7 billion killed and 59 military ships and 287 civilian ships lost.

Lt. Lyst: how many flag officers?

Hammond: 9 naval admiral and 13 generals. Major I have your new assignment. You and your team are going to be helping doctor Halsey. She is going to be heading to the research facility on Tolan V to try to work out a cure for this virus. We still don’t know exactly how it works or if we can make a cure. But that facility is best suited to that task.

Flynn: yes sir. When do we leave.

Hammond: once we are finished here. You will use the gateway for this as well. We simply don’t have the ships available here to transport you to the planet.

    Flynn: no problem sir.

Hammond: once at the facility your mission is two fold. Help find a cure but more importantly keep the doctor safe.

*Ghani looks at the Doctor and the file... Slightly worried at handling the a case as complex as this. *

Ghani: Doctor, *she looks through the pad file..* anything I should know about the patient in question?

Doctor: It's all in there. Just bare in mind he has gone through a horrible shock, so be delicate, and patient.

Ghani: I will try Doctor... *she steels herself and leaves the sickbay...reading the file.*

*Falli watching in the corner walks up behind the Doctor...*

Falli: A young attractive counselor... You would think they would get a drill instructor. This is going to go shockingly well... It is like women fall right into his life at a whim with very little effort. You know I keep hearing from the younger crew have to work hard at it.

*He thinks on it for a minute*

Though joking aside, I feel for the young ensign. Speaking of Doctor, you had ideas for his eye device? His arm prothesis is essentially done, just needs testing and approval from you.

Doctor: A cybernetic eye essentially identical to his old one shouldn't be difficult - especially with the research we've done with the Synthesisers. The biggest challenge would be the optical interface...

As for the Counsellor: given everything that's happened, I doubt the ensign will be particularly swift to start 'hitting on her'.

Falli: I agree, I was looking into the cybernetics of the cyborgs in employ of a certain PMC company in Federation space. Though finding an appropriate optical interface is going to be a challenge.

As for the Ensign... how about what humans call a... bet?

    Doctor: Go on.

*He takes a PADD and starts figuring out how to merge the Synthesiser tech with a human brain.*

Falli: My bet is that the young counselor will wind up dating her patient. She is amicable enough to see how much pain he is in. My bet... is the usual one Doctor...

*OOC: Trading Places 1983 reference. Like they did this a lot in the last 21 or more years. Think a Spock and McCoy dynamic... without the Vulcan bit*

Doctor: All right, on one provision: I win if she's not dating him by the time he stops being a patient. *Smiles.*

    *Falli smirks... *

    Falli: That is fine, Doctor.

    *He looks at the pad*

Hmm.. try a neural connection to this part of the brain..

Doctor: It's not the location of the connection, it's the complexity of the technology. At all but the atomic level, synthesiser technology is indistinguishable from organic systems. A Synthesiser eye is, for most intents, identical to a human one - but there is a difference. You can't just plug-and-play the two. The way neural commands and information is transmitted along the optic nerve is different. We need an interface, capable of deciphering the Synthesiser information into a format compatible for the human brain and vice versa.

    It's never been done!

Falli: *Looking at the pad again... * I really have been spending too much time in my lab. I need a proper challenge... Do you have anything I can work with and study?

Doctor: All the work done on Synthesiser anatomy and technology is in the computer. See what you can come up with.

And, Falli? Please make sure you test whatever you come up with before I stick it in my patient's brain.

*Ghani gives James Jr a surprised look.*

Ghani: I am surprised that your father allowed that.

James Jr: Your people took my father in after escaping the Elibisi... I think he felt it was only right...

    *He looks at her*

James Jr: What did you expect a silver spoon in my mouth?

Ghani: The thought did cross my mind. Given the connections your family has... Though it was more of a professional curiousity instead of offense.

    James Jr: Okay.

Ghani: How was the relationship between you and your siblings?

James Jr: I care a lot about them. My twin, tough girl, sometimes a loose cannon... though she is good in her own way. I am surprised that she did not communicate with me yet after I woke up. My little brother, Casval, highly intelligent kid, and sensitive, he always would tag along with me. Which I did not mind.

*He stops for a moment looking at his stump...*

I lost a limb for that kid and an eye.

Ghani: You don't need to tell me what happened about the incident James... Not unless your ready.

*James Jr stops for a moment considering this...*

Ghani: I think that is enough for today... at least. My initial thoughts Ensign if I may?

    James Jr: Okay...

Ghani: You have been through a lot and there is a lot to go over in the future... Especially later. When your ready for it.

James Jr: *nods* Sure... What is your name anyway?

    Ghani: Ghanima...

James Jr: A Spoil of War?

    *Ghani smiles a little*

Ghani: Your godmother did well in teaching you...

James Jr: She did. I haven't seen her in a while.

Ghani: You should get back in touch with her. It might help ease what is eating you...

    James Jr: Newtype intuition?

Ghani: No.. I have no need for it.

James Jr: Do I have an emergency line to you if I need it?

Ghani: Of course. I have to be if I have a patient.

James Jr: *gives a light smile. * Thanks Ghani...

*She nods... and leaves the room.. Leaving something of an impression on James Jr... a small comfort.*

*OOC: Considering what is coming up, might see more of her later. Speaking of, might want to get the plot moving...*

*Terry has been in the small craft for some time after the gateway... He knows the Arcadians are not going to move, not just yet anyway. He knows if they did the Republic would be defeated easily. As he enters the Milky Way, he starts the fold jump to the Enterprise... *

*Back on the Columbia... Systems on the ship begin to malfunction... The artificial gravity, or the replicators, and finally propulsion... *

Eve: What is going on? These systems were fine this morning... Get the chief...

*On the Enterprise J, the bridge crew is assembled waiting for Terry to return. Alvin is at the ops terminal his blind mentor not far away.. still 3rd in line for command. *

Alvin: Demora is reporting systems are all in the green. Seems she finally got that odd power fluctuation in the system out sir.

*Dani sighs as the lights flicker.*

Dani: Ops, what're the odds of computer flaws showing up on a ship more than 5 years out of spacedock?

Ops: The MC-544 Units are well-tested. The failure rate was down to less than 10% before Columbia even launched. They're practically bullet-proof, Captain.

    Dani: Alright, Bridge to Engineering.

Commander Varus Lucas *Over Comm*: I know what you're about to ask, Captain. No, I don't know what's causing these system failures, and no, I can't tell you when they'll be fixed.

Dani: Is the ship in danger?

Lucas *Over Comm*: Not yet. Most of the failures are isolated to secondary and tertiary systems, and we're rebooting them pretty consistently. The only exception is navigation.

    Dani: Go on.

Lucas *Over Comm*: We're getting intermittent failures in impulse, thrusters, warp drive, and epsilon systems. It's more an annoyance with the fail-safes, but it's got the navigation system completely tripped.

Dani: Pretend I don't know what that means.

Lucas *Over Comm*: At sublight, we usually use the navigation computer to coordinate all propulsion systems to execute manoeuvres. Same at super-light. But, with the systems failing, the navigation computer is unable to figure out how to execute commands. The system's fail-safe trips and locks out navigation controls entirely.

    Dani: So we're stuck.

    Lucas *Over Comm*: Essentially, yes.

I've got my best people working on it.

    Undine ship

Atriox watch’s the other ships as they come in and out as they continue to scan planets and systems.

    Atriox: report

Undine: we have yet to find any other trace of the virus but continue to search diligently.

    Atriox: keep scanning.

*Terry's Runabout comes out of the fold jump in front of them...*

Terry: Enterprise this is Admiral Allen...

Rissa: We recieve you Admiral... Welcome home.

Wade: Transporter room prepare to beam the runabout into the shuttlebay..

    Chief Formali: Yes Captain.. Energizing...

*The Runabout is then beamed aboard the Universe class vessel, and Terry steps out...*

Terry: Computer site to site transport to the bridge.

*Terry soon finds himself back on the bridge... much to the delight of his senior staff and some of the older crew. Especially the cadets that were there.*

Terry: Don't everyone hug me all at once.

*His son James Jr... is behind him with Casval...*

    James Jr: Dad?

Terry: *Stops for a moment and looks at his son. Missing an arm and an eye...How they maimed him..* James...

*If he was normal again he would have wept to see him up and about again. Casval is silent trying to figure out why his father looks differently...*

    Casval...

*He hugs both of them... feeling the sting memory can't forget. He looks at both of them... *

We will catch up more when I get the ship underway.

    Casval: Yes father.

*Casval helps his brother find his seat as James Jr... gets used to his current predicament. *

Terry: Starfleet has ordered us back to Earth to ascertain why a rebel from the Mirror Universe has come here. There is also the Undine that we need to contact.

    Wade: Yes sir..

Terry: Helm, plot a course to Earth.

*Terry goes to his seat, as Wade gets up... The seat wiggles... *

    Wade: What is it T?

Terry: I miss my old chair.

*Columbia. Mila lets it hit, getting knocked down before picking herself up.*

Mila: Okay, so no harder than that, yeah?

You wanna get changed and we'll do this? *Smiles challengingly.*

Johanna: What's with the lights? *Watches them flicker*

HK: Friendly usually does not line up with physically injure one another to the point where medical attention is required.

Tara A: Sometimes it does. It's called being competitive.

Oh, HK, do you think you could bring us some drinks? Like, some soft drinks?

    *Columbia. Mila looks around.*

    Mila: Dunno...

    *The ship-wide comm whistles.*

Dani *Over Comm*: All personnel, this is the Captain. No doubt most of you have noted some strange malfunctions in ship systems by now. Engineering is investigating the issue, but assures us that there is no danger as of yet. We are maintaining stand-down status at Condition 4. Carry on.

Mila *sarcasm*: Well, that explained loads. *The flickering stops in their section for now. Mila shrugs.*

    Try this again?

HK: Of course master. But being competitive is best when injuries are not involved. *He brings back a plate of drinks but they're healthier drinks and not designed well for taste* By my calculations you have been missing your daily nutritional requirements so I got something to fix that.

Johanna: Its sabotage. *she sighs Nd goes to change into her kit*

Johanna: Mila I've sabotaged the ship before remember? There's just suddenly a computer failure for the first time in the ships history coincidentally right after you got back from your mission? Its gotta be sabotage. *She's in her training gear now* Think about it it's too perfect.

*Sia awaits with the Young Man looking around at the landscape. *

    Young Man: What happened here?

Sia: The Elibisi happened here, they tried harvesting humans and taking anything of use to them.

Young Man: My father defeated them in my universe... Before they could get that far.

Sia: Well this universe we defeated them at a very high cost.

Young Man: Did my father do it?

Sia: He was part of the reason they were yes.

Young Man: *he is quiet at the thought... * Still he was and is not an Emperor...

Sia: Perhaps but he has no need for that title.

    *She starts walking out there...*

Sia: Come... We are going to scout out that city complex in the distance.

    Young Man: What is it?

    Sia: Ruins of Starfleet Academy...

*She turns to select few of the tribe. Speaking her tongue. She is gathering a few more people to go with.*

Young Man: Why are we heading out there?

Sia: There are things you need to see, and we also want to catalogue what wasn't destroyed.

    Young Man: By who's orders?

*There is a transport from a vessel in orbit. Showing an away team Terry, Casval, James Jr, Ghani, The Doctor (EMH), Falli...*

Terry: Mine as a matter in fact.

*The Young Man looks at awe of Terry, almost quaking right there on spot. The Innutankan present kneel and bow in the presence of Terry...Sia herself looks at him with concern.*

Sia: *stepping forward to him. Quietly talking to him.* I thought you gave up this power...

Terry: I did, but it seems the broker of the deal I made did not like the changes I made. He is coming.

    Sia: How long?

    Terry: I don't know.

Sia: Buji!!! (This is not good!!)

Terry: I know. But I also brought my sons...

*She looks on at both of them and hugs both of them... James Jr and Casval are relieved to see her again. She looks at James Jr, his missing arm and eye... *

    Sia: My god what happened?

James Jr: Cassi.... She turned on us, I shoved Casval out of the way of an explosion.

Sia: You still live that is all that matters.

    James Jr: Yeah..

    *Sia sees Ghani...*

Sia: I did not expect to see another tribe...

Ghani: I have not been with the others in years, I am serving the Mahdi...

*James and Casval are surprised at this... Terry looks at the Young Man who has been quiet...*

Terry: So you are him... What is your name?

*The Young Man stammers and finally gives him his name.*

Young Man: I am Marshal Ibn...

    Terry: Relax young man...

    *He looks to everyone...*

Terry: Alright we are going to head into the ruins. James... Your going to stay here with the Doctor and the Lt... Casval... Falli. Your with me and the expedition.

*Casval looks at Marshal sizing him up...Marshal does the same..*

*OOC: Trip into the Ruins I kinda see it as a haunted location... So who wants in?*

Captain Haitha sits in her command chair.

    Haitha: status report?

Ensign: we are arriving at the destination ma’am. All systems ready.

Haitha: good if intel is correct we should find the enemy transports here unprepared.

Hammond is in his office reading through some reports and files on the undine as his door chimes

    Hammond: enter

Lenox: do you have a moment general?

Hammond: come in come in have a seat. What can I do for you.

Lenox: we have received another report on recent undine activity.

    Hammond: any change?

Lenox: they have double their activity and presence all over. It’s not just here it’s every area. Sir if we don’t manage to control this sooner or later someone is going to fire on them and then we will have a full scale war on our hands.

Hammond: do you have any suggestions. I’m suppose to meet with unsc command shortly so if you have any ideas now is the time.

Lenox: we need to find where it came from. Then point the undine to them.

Hammond: I thought it was Carsick who had the virus?

Lenox: has and deployed yes. But ONI has intel on someone giving it to him.

He taps a control on his padd as an image of the hand off appears.

Lenox: this was the last image I received before I lost contact with this operative.

Hammond: who is had there with him?

Lenox: not sure yet. We are still looking through the data base now.

Hammond: as soon as you know or figure it out let me know and I’ll present this to command.

OOC: Just imagine if Hammond went to meet UNSC Command and they immediately had him shot for breaking away in the first place. ;)
  • logang19logang19 Member Posts: 13,843 Arc User
Ooc: that would be more likely for Sheridan. Hammond came back as one of the unsc delegates when this all happened :)
