ship locked items - why?

generally i think a lot of the ship locked items should have their restrictions removed. this would, for instance, make Cstore ships more valuable as a lot of their consoles are locked to the ship right now. but also items like the tempest tailgun are shiplocked. with an aft-focused ship coming, isn't it time to just remove ship locks on items altogether?

DHCs are also limited to specific classes of ships, artificially limiting the players options. sure, it might not be balanced right now, but there could be comparative debuffs for using DHCs on a cruiser for instance rather than an escort. that said, there wouldn't really be much need for that because of generally slower turning speeds.

I'm not going to go into my head canon justification for ship locked items, as real Trek canon shows that any ship can use any weapon/device the current plot line wants, with the possible exception of saucer separation, but even with that if the plot line requires that shuttle to do a saucer separation, by golly, it's gonna happen. And that Fed Starship is going to manage to shoehorn that singularity core in place of it's warp dive also. Anyway, in my head I come up with "reasons" too justify why I can't use my Aquarius escort with my Krenim science ship

That "if the plot requires it" also apply to weapons, however weapons restrictions don't require much imagination to justify...sort of. It literally makes no sense to design/install a weapons mount for a very narrow firing arc weapon such as DHCs on a ship that turns slower than that car in front of you when you are trying to beat the light so slowly that the enemy can fly circles around it faster than it can turn to get them into the firing arc of it's weapons. (Which doesn't explain why the narrow arc DBBs can be mounted on just about anything but does anyone really expect consistency in game logic).
    LTS and loving it.
