Antiproton weapon that was removed from game Years ago...?

kaggert27kaggert27 Member Posts: 138 Arc User
So tonight (late night for me) someone in zone chat in ESD asked if anyone knew of a certain space weapon that you can't get anymore: They described it as "Crimson(or Crimsam) Triple Beam Bank and was Antiproton, that it had some proc called [HyperPen] which had like 2.5% chance: -25 damage resistance(or -30 can't remember which) for 5 seconds on proc. I kind of knew what they were talking about. It had some weird arc, thinking somewhere at like 75º but couldn't remember, but we(ones on ESD talking about it) couldn't find anything on google, wiki, Bing, or anyone around long enough to remember.

Antiproton back then was +30/40 Critical Severity (not the percentage type) And then I remembered Antiproton weapon tooltip descriptions used to be different, something about chance to ignore some percent(or all...) of shield to hit hull before the old changed to what we have now.

So my thing is, does anyone else remember this weapon? It had to exist before the game went f2p. I couldn't remember if it was acquired from a mission reward, or the old currencies, crafting (doubtful but...), or some Task Force Omega STF thingy. What was the correct name? Anyone have images of the original Antiproton weapon descriptions? Any of one know?

I heard that comment as well. To be honest I thought they were trolling but could be wrong. Never heard of such a weapon. Maybe a beta item? I only go back to mid 2011.

Never heard of it in the 7 years I've played.

Anti Proton has always been around. Before the first skill revamp I had a char speced out just for AP, when you had to spec for specific weapon types.

The only thing I know that has the name Crimson, is the Crimson Force field, its a nice console that's included in the Miracle Worker ships:

That weapon wasn't that great to be fair. The Triple Omni Antiproton Beam Array with special [Q] modifiers was much better.

It was omni-directional, but that wasn't even the most interesting feature as it was also omnipotent and omnipresent. It could damage enemies in the past, present and future meaning that it could target enemies regardless of where they were and when they were.

If you used this weapon in ISA, you could target the Nanite Spheres before they got through the gate, while also targeting everything on the right side when your ship was on the other side. And because it was truly omnipresent, its power wasn't limited to just one map. There are even stories about the Crystalline entity being killed while someone used this weapon in ISA.

Enemies had zero resistance against this weapon and it is thought that even the Devs were not immune to its power. When they tried to create new content, this weapon would simply destroy all the enemies before they were even placed on the maps while the Devs were testing it - effectively deciding what would exist in the game and what wouldn't from that point on.

A new weapon was needed to counter this. It took 47 days, but by then everyone - even the top players in the DPS channels - agreed that something needed to be done.
So a secret group of the game's most elite players led by Commander Nerf, contacted Q, who challenged the weapon. Because it takes omnipotence to remove omnipotence, both were destroyed in the battle that raged on. This is also why we don't have the original Q in STO, but his son. That battle and the damage caused during it, also explains the destruction of Romulus, the first revamp of ESD, the loss of the Enterprise E and Jay Yim's scars.

All this damage and the need to rebuild the game then and start over again, besides the loss of the most powerful 'I win button' ever seen, is also what started the controversy surrounding Commander Nerf and his team, nicknamed The Nerfs (they used to form a band that performed in Club 47 for a while on an iMac, a clarinet and a jar of mayonaise).

Q is no longer around, no one knows where the other heroes are but to this day you can witness the on-going division between those who praise The Nerfs and their opponents.

There where dedicated Borg AP weapons for STFs which had been removed (or rather the ability to get new ones had) since the Borg proc was said to be faulty and the whole system was overhauled anyway with this new reputation system the kids these days raving about. Their specialty was the Borg proc which did some nasty damage to Borg IIRC but they where normal AP weapons otherwise.

I think it's safe to say that this mystery has been solved.
