Lack of pets on ships that have many bays

i get that not every ship needs pets, but it seems odd to me that ships which have expansive hangar bays don't even have "space" for a single shuttle to use in combat. some notable examples would be the Galaxy exploration cruisers, which are shown to have expansive hangar bays, as well as Mirandas, whose physical model has three hangar bays. you can probably apply the same logic to most ships that aren't escorts, though.

the weirdest part of this to me is that you can already call in shuttles using engineering abilities, or pilot abilties, or command abilities, just with different implications to having actual elite pets.

how come escorts get experimental weapons but miranda doesn't get 1 shuttle for three whole hangar bays?

You see it takes more then just the physical space to park a shuttle to have a "combat hangar", you need space for fuel, spare parts (or even spare shuttles/fighters), munitions and pilots.

Miranda-class can make do with "space to park a shuttle" and minor repair bay as it doesn't have to assume it's constantly having to deal with damaged shuttles and carry enough fuel and munitions for multiple sorties.

As for summoned shuttles there's 2 ways of explaining that, 1) they arrive thru their own warp capabilities 2) You're sending your shuttles in a panic move and you don't expect them to come back.

miranda and galaxy class have three huge bays with mutliple shuttles and you can't send your shuttles on a suicide mission if you just cast it again in 1minute

Always gone with 1. You're doing the Star Trek equivalent of popping a flare/smoke and calling reinforcements to you.
