After watching this vídeo from TheSharxtreme
https://youtube.com/watch?v=yvFhXhHlPNo i realized how much this game is wasting, and what game it could be, so many landscapes, beautiful planets, empty battlezones, stuff we only get or need to see once, yet. we are overwhelmed with constant powercreep, new consoles, ships, traits, for a month or two, untill we need to get the new op stuff, Cryptic, give players time to actually play and enjoy the game, fix what needs to be fixed, revamp what needs to be revamped, stop throwing stuff at as, stop wasting resources creating things we will only need for 1 or 2 months, because of all those traits, consoles, useless weapon types and mods, ships, ALL OF THAT, players only use like 10%, the rest is TRIBBLE, or old, have tooltips we dont even understand, or they dont even work
if the playerbase wasnt so in love with the star trek franchise, this game would be over already, stop trying to force players to play the game, without giving a reason to actually play the game, there is no challenge, no fun, star trek online is a race where the player that fills the new reputation and specializations, gets the newest traits and ships from the lockboxes, is the winner, making the game boring and repetitive, we are waiting for the new reputation, to play the same stf's over and over again until we finish the reputation and then boom, queue is empty, heck, i remmember when i first got the mk xii maco shield back in the days, i was so happy, or the maco team commander accolade, and omega force harvester for the badass tailor unlock, that was badass, missions were hard, required coordination, you had to know what you were doing, we played for the competition, because the game WAS FUN AND INTERESTING. while now we reach a point where you need extra lives to tank the extra damage lol
Why not give us new pve/pvp modes? new maps ? open areas ? or like, use the many beautiful planets and add open leveling areas, or add bosses with super rare loot or mobs for the olschool leveling and farming, look at defera borg invasion zone, i loved it, full of people, open, lots of fun, now ? empty. why ? - doesnt even contribute to meta
Players are leaving because they cant keep up with constant realease of new stuff, new stuff to fill, new op and broken stuff, they are leaving not because of lack of content, its just that its boring and repetitive, id rather play a mission with nice cutscenes and cinematics like mirrors and smoke, than play 10 boring non-sense missions where all you do is scan-enter planet-kill everyone-leave-done-never comeback
Star trek online has so much potential, and all wasted, i mean look at these screenshots:
https://imgur.com/a/LmEd9
cool no ? in a few months the queue will be empty, and the mission long forgotten
and imagine having the best pvp match of your life on this sweetie ( could replace the laggy old ugly solar wind btw )

they are indeed improving with art, star trek is becomming a beautiful game since lighting 2.0, and at least tolerable since the balance fix, i want to cogratulate the devs for the improvements, but if you dont change your mindset, it will all be lost soon.
such a waste of a game

Oh don't worry... THAT location will NOT be gone for a long time. That is the Dranuur Colony Fleet holding. You are in a fleet? You can go there every day and grind mini games or Colony Invasion (which is really fun if you can get enough people and can pay for it).
Thank you for sharing the video...I will go check it out later on.

i would suggest. make eps. trailers, season trailers... promote the current product. more people in more development out.
criticism is easy, but dude, we've been through new romulus, delta rising, and all the temporal TRIBBLE... they keep not listening to us ...
There are quite a few things that if they were fixed would make the game better. I agree with you, there does seem to be quite a few things that the player base asks for that we will more than likely never get.
since this is adressed to me, I must say that beyond the obvious fact that every review is indeed a criticism. my approach in making this video is bit different and it is explained in first 40 seconds of intro, namely that I always look for positives and try to glorify them as much as possible which is also obvious through my cherry picking the best of the best shots and scenes STO can offer(indirectly offer through demo recording and heavy editing)
Problem with STO is not in me criticising some of developer's decisions, but in amount of questionable developer decisions.
And as for your suggestion that channel my effort in promoting new content, I shall just point out that I can't even play new featured episode, enter new fleet holding, log into toons that were left on New romulus and Risa prior to season update patch, can't play some ground episodes, and after numerous bug reports, half of my toons are stuck there, and i can't even log on them.
I would make those stuff, I play STO for over five years, but there are many reasons i mention in review, besides the developer-player communication that stand in the way of something like that.
Thank you for your input, i know you weren't malicious, but this is how i see it.

One of my biggest complaints is that all the episodes they are releasing are cookie-cutter episodes. They are all the same and follow the same arc. You fly in, do some exploring and maybe a little space battle, then you beam down for some ground content and finally beam back up for an outrageous end space battle.
This is the problem with this kind of release strategy and why 99% of all the lifetime members dislike it. They just keep repeating the same thing over and over with useless rewards. And yeah, then there are the same rewards over and over too... so boring.
99.9% of everything that drops in this game is useless junk. They have no imagination. For example, the Breen Space set should be much more powerful on Breen ships. This is a way to update the old space set and make it useful... this is just 1 example. Another would be that escorts get a massive defense bonus when flying at full speed. This idea has been out there for years and I can't believe that they have not heard of it. Everybody has wantyed this for YEARS!
Cryptic has been stuck in a cycle of self destruction for over a year now and the keep adding stuff to try and balance the game and the result is predictably an UN-Balanced game.
For example, the new Tier 7 (or T6-U or whatever you want to call them) ships are completely out of whack. The skills and powers will obviously be nerfed. These ships are so over powered they will be indestructible. Sci ships will do zero damage against them and only people with ships that cost them $500.00 dollars to create will have any chance.
The season 13 nerf was supposed to bring balance but it resulted in the opposite. Beam boats remain the apex build and it ruined the only other viable option which was the Sci-Temporal, Torp boat so where is the balance now?
They are stuck is a perpetual cycle of UN-balancing the game and there is no end in sight.
And yeah, your opening post is basically what is wrong with STO, similar to what i expressed in my review.
What is the point in adding more console slots on ships, anyway? Of all things they could improve, they find the least important one and "improve" that. Oh, good, a new ship skin with one extra console. And all the weapons and gear you get with that new badass ship you can throw in trash because lockbox weapons are lightyears ahead. WTF are they thinking.

They are not.
Cryptic will never, ever get anything right in this game for as long as it survives.
All that TRIBBLE in that video should hve already happened years ago, its simply too late now.
Can we have more loxbox ships plz??
I am tired of the cadence with these releases. Winter event, summer event, mega bundles, reputations, skill trees, etc. Each one of them has powercreep with the next tantalizing console, weapon, trait, boff, power, skill, etc.. that will be OP and shine until the next event hits. Then, those items are nerfed so that the new shinies will be bought.
It is the same tiring saga every day, week, month, quarter, and year. Cryptic, just like you are so robotic with your releases and the amount of grind they represent. We become robotic when doing them.. unfeeling, uncaring, and stuck in a mundane routine that makes time pass very slowly. Yes, the graphics, visuals, etc.. are nice, but they aren't enough.
I am not excited when a new release comes out because it is like someone just dropped a new file folder on my desk at work to understand, process, and close out.
I can't keep up with everything, and I won't keep up. I'll keep one character up-to-date and forget the rest. I won't buy everything that is released because I will wait to cherry pick what is actually good for my build, based upon feedback from others. It isn't like f2p can keep up at only 8K dilithium processed per day, right?
Anyway, do what you want, because I, like so many others, are burned out with releases that you can set your watch to. While they make you money, they also drive away people who spend it.
I have been back to STO for 3 weeks after almost 1.5 years. I did my 3 reps (almost) and I am working through my skill trees. I cherry picked the good gear and bought it with the monthly stipend that I get as a lifetime subscriber. I see the new mega bundles and will wait to hear about the good stuff before doing anything.
... but... I am already burned out.. again.
I love Star Trek and only play Star Trek games, but you are making me hate this game. It is the only Star Trek game with PvP in it, as sad as it is, so I keep waiting for you to get wise and make me want to play all of the time.
That is my perspective and how I feel. If you want to consider me a minority, that is your prerogative. If you want to ignore this forum and ignore this feedback, you are welcome to do so, but you aren't hurting me by doing it.
I AM NOT A FAN OF PWE!!!!
MEMBER SINCE JANUARY 2010
I stopped running windows for a good while so when they killed DX9 (I was playing for awhile under Wine) it seemed like a good time to move on. I have kept an older windows machine around for a long time and decided today power up the STO. My guess is I'm going to log in check a few PvE things out... pull a bit of my fortune out of the bank and end up working the exchange for an hour before I get board and logout. lol Who knows perhaps I'll be surprised and find a bunch of old friends around, but that does seem unlikely.
