I wonder what those baby arms are good for. Scratching each other's back?
The blog says the smaller arms are used for more precise handling of items, while the bigger ones are used for more punching stuff.
The concept is similar to the Moties from Niven and Pournelle's The Mote In God's Eye and The Gripping Hand. In the case of Moties, the two right arms are relatively thin, with six-fingered hands at the end of each arm; there is one massive left arm, with a single three-fingered "gripping hand". A Motie Engineer is capable of lifting a car with the left arm, and using the right hands to tinker with the undercarriage.

The Tzenkethi are obviously bilaterally symmetrical, not having the tragic history of Mote Prime as a driving evolutionary force, but the idea of the strong arms and the clever arms is there.

Time to dust off the weapons and ships. They have been docked for sometime now. And seems they are going to be tough it says as they are like those tanks in MMOs that can absorb damage.

I'm hoping that they will be tanky, that would be cool to see in NPCs. I'm also hoping that their ships will be tanky, kinda like the Samsar was when it was released.

I hope that they have something that counters BFAW. That'd be hilarious! :D

A feed back pulse style ability. It would also be interesting to see shield based upon the adapted borg technology by the Tal Shiar.
Adaptation to X energy weapon, vulnerable to torpedoes. Adaptation to torpedoes, vulnerable to energy.

The biggest pain to the current meta would be some ability which negates AoE abilities.

The blog mostly talks about the character model and the ground abilities, it seems. But they mention that the first fight against them might be challenging since you don't know how to counter them - I hope that this means that works, and that it also translates to space combat. MAybe some more uses for Subnucleonic Beam (though that is of course not the only form of counter).

Instead of Feedback Pulse, I would however suggest something like "Feedback Healing". Say:
"Whenever you deal damage to a Tzenkheti Ship, some of the attacks energy is transferred to its nearby allies, granting shield healing and providing a shield resistance buff (and perhaps damage strength buff).
=> BFAW would actually makes the ships tougher to deal with, and it's better to take them out one by one. Yay for Cannon Rapid Fire, High Yield Torpedo, Surgical Strikes or Beam Overload again.

    And Iconians.
    Well, I don't know.

I mean, they have some nice legs, and we do get a pretty nice shot of M'Tara's bum in that one mission, but I don't know if I would say that is their shtick.

Though all the Iconians wearing metal bikini armor probably doesn't help.
Why do you think nobody tried to shoot her when she killed the High Council and the Preserver. Cutscene Incompetence?

    No, it's because of that:

it is really not, a femme fatale by definition use seduction/sex as a weapon. being sexy, which I don't think iconians are, while nuking the hell out of things is not the same thing.

orion are a textbook case though.

if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.

Femme Fatale's use their sexuality as a weapon, the Iconians only strut around in skimpy outfits but don't actually use their sexuality or even recognize it for anything.

"When a Tzenkethi falls, sometimes their backpacks remain in a powered state. This allows nearby Tzenkethi to reuse the incredible restorative power from it until the backpack’s power reserves are depleted."

So even their dead brothers in arms will still be a tactical threat on the ground? Fun.

I'm actually looking forward to this new enemy....time to re-adjust my ground weapons for a tough fight

Well, now to wait and see if there's more BOFFs/DOFFs for me to add to my collection of space lizards.

Which is going nicely. I'll have Nelen Exil in less than a week now, got my Gorn BOFF, got almost all the Gorn DOFFs available to Feds (save the crit defection guys), couple of the Voth DOFFs and ample fleet credits for whenever I can get into a fleet where I can buy em' (trying to help my current fleet, but all the high ranking folks seem to have gone inactive, meaning no new projects can start...), got all but a couple of the Hirogen DOFFs, then a nice smattering of Saurian DOFFs.

Still have no Xindi-Reptilians or Tosk, but they'll come in time. And then I guess I need to decide if Jem'Hadar and Rigellians are reptilian enough to earn a spot about the Space Lizard Barge.

Femme fetale aliens I hear you say: Tzenkethi Queen boss, 4x the size of the males = Alien Queen + Indepandance day queen + praying mantis + Orion Seduction + tenticles + Bio Assimilation.
'You walk through an abandoned Tzenkethi Nest, bodies are rotting around you all of differing sizes and spiecies but no signs of a battle. You come accross a familier sight, a Ferengi but severely disfigured and double the size still holding a PADD. As you pick up you notice It's at least 200 years old but still functional so you open the last entry.
"Inventory log 106, Lots of precious cargo here ripe for the picking" " Quoon! Pick up that Helmet and throw it here."
'You tap your communicator,' "There seems to be Breen remains further down but his cold suit looks as if he outgrew it in a hurry."
"Inventory log 106 supplimental, the helmet was broken but not worthless however, my scans indicate a strong pheremonal presence. Too bad I have the only rebreather! bottling this stuff for perfume will make me richer than the Grand Nagus Himself. Quoon, get back here!"
"Help, Help me I'm to important to die, Quoon was swallowed up by 20 foot tenticled monster, I'm getting out of here - he who profits and runs away lives to profit another day!"
'You smirk that Ferengi have never changed and continue the log.'
"Quoon has just hatched from an egg, he must be 8 feet tall and coming after me, I'm sorry for cutting you out of the last deal, it was just business! Quoon, Quoon? AGGGGGGGHHHHHH!"
'The message ends there, you tap your comm,'"Admiral, it seems the Tzenkethi have a queen, it uses pheromones and possibly telepathy to lure pray and absorbs their DNA to replicate it's offspring. I recommend rebreathers when engaging and a lot of luck."

Now we have an Alien threat, A true femme fetale.

That's not at all what I had imagined a Tzenkethi to look like (another reptilian?) but at least it's creative. I like the multiple drone thing and hope for new drones for our captains as well. Engineers need more drones!
The Tzenkethi's design appears to be based on a comment made by Robert Hewitt Wolfe, a writer on many episodes of DS9

    http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Tzenkethi
Robert Hewitt Wolfe said, in December 2006, that he thought he had named the Tzenkethi by combining the name Kzinti (from Larry Niven's race of aliens that appeared in the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode "The Slaver Weapon") with Tsankth, after a race from the RuneQuest and HeroQuest RPGs. Wolfe also said he did not picture them as cats like the Kzinti, but as being like the Hakazit from Jack L. Chalker's Well of Souls novels. He saw the Tzenkethi as being "heavily-armored lizard things."

forgot about that makes my original thought on them being a halo rip off to be incorrect.

my thought on the matter is. we should start building a rapid firing cluster hargh'peng torpedo launcher and dreadnought carrier capable of mounting such a weapon equipped with enhanced battlecloak.

Excellent design Cryptic, well done :)

I can't wait to see them in action.

Just an idea but it was mentioned that they haven't decided how to make them move. Maybe they could walk on all fours when not in combat, sort of an evolutionary thing, walk on all fours but with the head and chest raised (due to their long arms) so being able to still use their smaller arms. That way the shorter rear legs would seem the right proportion. (hmm I s'pose it would be a bit gorilla-like.

    What a great idea!

Please, please, please, do something like this.

We have the Undine which seem very anti-escort, (all the slows and turning debuffs they have) so I think this would be a great balance. They are making people use their heads in ground combat against these new enemies so why not also in space combat, and seeing as the vast majority of people use BFAW then, yeah, that'd be great lol. :D

Space mounted dreadnought torpedo launcher, warp powered high yeild antimatter detonation and due to the picard manouver your ememy is destroyed before it's left your ship :D

Everything I've seen of them so far looks really cool. Nice to see more aliens that aren't just bumpy-headed humans, for one thing.

I just wish Cryptic had taken this direction earlier, instead of going with the god-level Iconians and the time travel clusterfunk.

I guess there are 2 concepts behind the designs for the Tzenkethi

    1. "Uh, they became mosquitoes in the later books? Bah. Heavily armored lizard things FTW." -Robert Hewitt Wolfe

    2. "Externally humanoid, but internally quite different. Their skeleton is made up of several fluid-filled sacs, which can be contracted and expanded at will. This allows an unusual flexibility for a humanoid body." -ST Novels

I wonder if we will get a chance to meet both types of designs in game? I know they have released the concept art for their Lizard design...but maybe the novel version will be re-imagined into another alien race in game?
  • kodachikunokodachikuno Member Posts: 6,020 Arc User1
my only solid complaint about them is this... .wee voth 2.0 for 6 episodes or so, then forgotten forevermore like every other "antagonist" race for the last 6yrs

An army of Kif Kroker's coming at the player isn't exactly threatening in any way so no, I really hope not in terms of a villain race. (And how they're described is EXACTLY like an Amphibiosan from Futurama. Enjoy having that image tied to them from now on) As a side race who aren't interested in conflict? Sure. As an adversary that I'm supposed to feel could cause issues if left unchecked? Hahahahaha, no.

Except no antagonist race has ever been forgotten except maybe the Dividians.

really? when was the last time voth saw new content? or the spoonheads? or the borg even?
