What they said before is completely irrelivant you idjet. Just because they did wrong too doesn't make what you did any better. Jeebus, it's like talking to a 5 year old child.

Name calling & derogatory comments only serve to further prove my point, thank you. Quit while you're behind.

Wow...somebody is a prissy one. Seriously are you 5 years old?!? Because seriously, this kind of retoric is unacceptable in a CHILD much less a grown person. Normally, I would have some wit and bits of wisdom...but there are just some things where you have to tell a kid no...just no. Laughing at the suffering of other creatures is one of those. Seriously, you need to be told this?!? Obviously your parents failed you utterly to produce something like you.

If you appreciate the ships of Star Trek buy yourself a proper model. 3d printing is still behind traditional casting processes in terms of quality and the price of materials is high. This is compared to niche marketed plastic and resin components that are already priced high for what they are. All of this comes before attaching the name of a popular IP to them.

The customization is nice; You can't get that without scratch-building or paying someone with the expertise to do it for you but considering this is being marketed as something for display purposes I think they are doing a disservice to the customer and to themselves.

Unfortunately, there are only model kits available for the canon on-screen ships. 3D printing and scratchbuilding are the only options for the more STO-centric ship designs. Of all the exclusive to STO ships, I think only the Odyssey would be viable for Round 2 (the model kit company that holds the license to produce Star Trek model kits) to produce due to CBS making the Enterprise-F a part of the official canon Enterprise lineage, and even then only in 1/2500 scale to match their Cadet Series kits.

Which is a shame really. Some of the STO designs are pretty cool (and yes, many are also WTF were they thinking). A lot of the KDF designs are really nice, the Orion Dacoit and Corsair are beautiful ships and the Mat'ha Raptor is one of the coolest Klingon ships done. The Kobali Samasar is pretty cool too.

I wonder if I'd be able to request that they remove the UFP logos from my T6 Excalibur's saucer and replace them with an Eagle, Globe, and Anchor ... or if not, just remove them entirely

personally I would rather go to ebay and purchase one of the many official release models, sure if you want a ship that is only in the game and not a ship that actually featured in one of the episodes or movies that's fine but the official releases are a much better investment as you would be far more likely to be able to sell them on if need be.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

This is a properly licensed product thus it IS an "official release", just a custom one.

Does that mean that I could... I could... I could.... I could get a model Vesta?
Man, the possibilities this opens up! You could get a model of almost every ship in Trek!
This is so awesome. Thanks, Cryptic, already in advance, for this option!

(Sorry for my gushing, but this is literally one of the best things I've ever seen.)

There are a couple outfits that have sprung up in larger cities that provide the print services locally. Some have partnered with outfits like Shapeways. Printing in the locality eliminates the need for any postal fees. The plan is transmitted electronically and the customer can do a pick up in person.

My point exactly as it relates to how people were gushing over these things & talking about the crazy prices they'd pay. I'll be waiting once folks get some to see how happy they are then. If they are out 15 or 20 bucks, I doubt anyone making the purchase will care. But if they pay hundreds for something they think is "garbage" because it isn't "just like their ship" I believe it is a safe bet that we'll be reading about it in a forum post 30 seconds after they open the box.

Having browsed the site a bit more they look pretty good from a distance but up close they seem a bit rough.
There's definitely some sort of "tree ring" effect going on with some parts and they don't have a smooth surface, more a rough grainy surface.
They'd need to have a reasonable price before I considered buying any.
I think the chance to completly customise them is the big attraction though, something plastic model kits can't offer.

I think someone said <100$, but I'm not sure.

What do you define as "reasonable"?

I personally expect it to be in the $100 range, Blizzard's WoW equivalent to this costs $120.

These do look pretty amazing, although the ship I would choose should be obvious and I'll probably just wait until Eaglemoss release a Rhode Island model (already own the USS Equinox Nova model they produced).

Hopefully PWE will open up the ability to kitbash ships a bit more before they start on this. I am looking forward to having a few ships done but there are more ships I would like to create that aren't currently possible to have done.

Kit customization has its own rewards. Just not many folks are into that, I suppose. There's more than enough artwork & examples around to have a "go by" if you need one. Kits and parts are out there, already rather pricey imho.

What this really is about is another way to access your wallets. Fans who really want them are going to buy them from somebody, and they just love giving you an option for it to be them. I agree the "customization made effortless" you cite correctly as the big attraction. Watch out when that is also the very thing which drives the cost waaaay up.

Still curious to know what the price of this will be and what the quality of the model will be as well. If both are decent enough I will definitely get my favorite ship done.

HI EVERYONE! I was at M:NYC and I spoke with Al and everyone at the booth and discussed the printed ships. I have photos of them and I've posted them on FB and I'll do so on Twitter as well. They are quite large, 6-9" or so depending on the ship itself (long as opposed to wide). The smaller ships like the escorts print with *exceptional* detail, especially in the ship names. The larger ships like the cruisers, etc. don't have the super-fine details with the names but the models clearly reflected how tight the coloration is. Al informed me that you should be able to print EVERY ship in the game WITH THE EXCEPTION of a select few that have "floating" aspects to them, like the Iconian variants that have pieces that look like they're floating up off of the hulls. They're looking into how that might be resolved, but for now - those ships won't convert to the print. Also, he said that as far as he knew, that Borg console visuals WILL PRINT as well. He also stated that he's not sure if "open" ships (ships like the Chimera that "open" up) and MAY - MAY be closed-hull options only. (Don't read this to say if there's an opening it can't print, which isn't true - it's merely that it sounds like the *default visual* of the ships that have a movement is what can get printed.) They have not selected pricing yet. They have a very nice weight to them and the bases have stems that move so you can display the ships in myriad positions. Personally, I'm very excited about this. I can't wait to get one or two of them - namely my Chimera and a very special Tal Shiar Adapted if it'll come out ok. If you have any questions - let me know - @TerilynnS on Twitter.

No torment, just a youtuber taking videos of his cat. You & a few others have tried to turn it into some kind of cruelty scenario just to fabricate yourselves some justification for your fake outrage, flaming posts, and harassment. Funny thing is, you are kinda like the cat in this metaphor - the more exposed you are, the louder you yowl.

Yeah, the video was funny because the cat was freaking out over nothing. It wasn't hurt, it wasn't in danger.... it was yowling at a tiny lap dog that was sitting on the other side of the room.
