Am i doing something wrong or is sector space travel an absolute crawl as a new character ?

I decided to start a new Romulan toon. Put a purple mk II hyper impulse engine and 3 points in driver coils and OMG ? Its been close to 10 mins to travel halfway from the Romulan Flotilla to the Helix mission. I have 105 in engine power subsystem.

Am i doing something wrong here or is this a oversight on the Dev's part and the travel speed of a lower levelled toon with the sector map enlargement ?

You are very limited for maximum Warp at lower levels, which means substantially slower speeds for Sector Travel.

So basically travelling system to system levelling up is going to be as big a pain as going from level 54-60 i.e will feel like very little progress is being made. Dam it

And you can't use the Quantum Slipstream Drive until you are level 50, when you are granted that Ability.

You are pretty much limited to Warp 5 with the Mark I warp/singularity cores, and can't get to Warp 9.9 until you can equip the Mark VIII ones upon your promotion at level 30.

At those levels, you're a lot faster, and you have access to quantum slipstream. And you can often spend the time travelling doing Duty Officer missions and Admirality.

At low levels, your destinations usually won't be all that far away from each other.

KDF has also some 'long' travels at low level (low level long travel). You can grow out of it fast, but, yeah, one of the pains for leveling up. A new player doesn't know better, but someone that is doing it a second or third time, it is a drag.

Good thing is that this leveling goes fast. In other games you have a veteran feature, you can skip the starting levels. Something we had with KDF when those started at level 20.

Most transpwarp gates are still broken and you usually end up farther away from your target and several thousand EC poorer... >:(

At 20-50K a warp, it stopped being merely pocket change awhile ago.

Going anywhere at low levels is such a massive pain in the TRIBBLE that it is best to avoid any sector-space motion prior to level 50. Park yourself in an adventure zone or a doffship and doff it.

20-50k is still pocket change for anyone who plays this game even semi-regularly. Hell, it's nothing to me and I never play more than a week or two at a time before leaving for months.

    Learn to economy.

yep, indeed this is really boring, and when you leave the flotilla, you appear near the sol system, so you have a long long long travel to do for reaching again the romulan area.

I did the exact same thing on Friday, decided to remake a Romulan liberated borg. I'd forgotten how Sloooooooooooow sector travel is at the lower levels. In fact I fell asleep during one trek last night!

there was a time I was in orbit of Qo'nos and barely moving even at full throttle and then realised somehow I had unslotted my impulse drive so I was moving on thrusters only, might be worth just checking you have a warp core fitted and your not traversing sector space on your impulse drive only.

I only ask because you mention your purple mk II hyper impulse engine but didn't say about your warp core.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Seriously, the speed at which you are travelling at is waaaaaaaaaaay faster than canon, otherwise you'd be waiting alot longer to travel between systems (2 years to cross the entire Federation according to canon). Considering how fast you can level to 50 these days, I'd say, just suck it up. Too many people wanting so much instant-gratification these days. Use that time, whilst travelling, to do Doffing, I do, even when I'm travelling Warp 20.93!

"Canon" has little or nothing to do with good gameplay. Sector space travel on the new maps, at low level, especially with Rom & KDF characters who have to go across several blocks at warp 5, is a massive drag.

(And no, doffing isn't the answer. At low level, there's almost none to do. And when you talk to your department heads - which is where I do most of my doffing - you stop moving.)

It is not a drag in the slightest, merely a few minutes to wait, giving you a break, a chance to drink, smoke or whatever. My point is, you don't spend that much time at low levels for it to be even considered an issue. With-in a week you're at 9.97 on a level 30+ toon. This is a case of instant-gratification being impatient!

This'll probably sound weird and granted, I find it slightly annoying every now and then, but for the most part, I consider it a feature.

Space is supposed to be huge and it's supposed to take time to cross the void

I don't understand the reason why people are always in such a rush during sector space travel. Nothing happens there except some menu stuff, and no combat. All those people spending points and getting gear just to leap across sector space, to me, is a waste. If I am starting a new character, I expect slow travel so I can get acquainted with the game. Even going through leveling 3 or 4 alts, the slow travel still doesn't bother me. I guess I am one of those patient few.

say it takes 5 mins to travel from one system to another to start a mission. Thats 5 mins of actual playing time that could be spent proactively playing and completing that mission instead its 5 mins of my play time wasted
