specialized factions?

i see a lot of players with in their sig "we need kdf science ships"? yes, this would be interesting, but no way.

In fact, if the factions were more specialized, this game would be more interesting.

- KDF: "fight with honor" <- Worf's sentence, nothing to add. Klingons are warriors, not scientists. Scientists are not very respected.

- Romulans: they should have more scientific skills, more spying skills (intel stuff are perfect for them)

- Federation: exploration, diplomacy, engineering, science

this means for the ships:

- KDF: BOP, Raptor, cruiser with tac aptitude; the new negh'var is a fed ship, not a KDF one. a T6 Tor'Kaht would be excellent

- Romulan: sci ships, cruiser with more sci seats, warbirds like the dhelan-mogai-arkif; I hope that the error made by the released of the scimitar won't be done again. this ship is nothing in the star trek universe. the old d'd was perfect for the roms, the new one is a fed ship

- Federation: cruiser (all), light escorts, sci ships

if all the ships for the 3 factions are the same; what is the interest of keeping 3 factions?

a good idea would have been to give:

- command skills -> federation
- intel skills - > romulan
- pilote(?) -> klingon

my 2 cents

Not every Klingon follows the standard warrior mold. Some Klingons fight with honor through SCIENCE. The Klingon Science Academy has seen numerous bloodbaths through their debates about various theories.

I made a similar suggestion in my FACTION REVAMP proposal. Giving each Faction a flavor without taking away choice.

    LOL

And lest we forget, some members of the KDF are decidedly not Klingon. The Gorn actually do have science vessels of a sort. We just need a T6 Gorn vessel, maybe?

That and we have seen Klingon scientists .

Plus one would think that a race sufficiently advanced to build warp powered starships might have at least a few scientists kicking around.

LOL, if we're going to play the "Specialized Factions" game then WTH do you make of the Feds with exemplary ships in every possible kind of ship genre?

Personally, I don't like this idea. Being locked into some sort of 'stereotype', without ability to make a choice. As far as I know, some other MMO's do it, and that's why I don't play them. STO can be played, for most part, the way I want to. Let's keep it that way, please. :D

This thread here kinda disagrees with your thread.

Also, why should Romulans be so sci focused? They used to have an Empire (still exists) and the fresh Republic is fighting for it's existence. All they need are war ships to win against the strong Tal Shiar and other threats.

Of course I understand your suggestion, but personally (!) I think that it is not such a great idea.

Depends on how they gained their technology. It is doubtful that there are any Kazon scientists since their technology was obtained by stealing it from their former masters in their slave revolt and then from other races. Then there is the Heralds. They are not as advanced as the Iconians, but use Iconian technology all the time.

    The factions are already "specialized".

-The Klingon Empire: Conquest and Common Sense.

-The Federation: Gunboat Diplomacy and Realpolitik.

-The Republic: Intrigue and Drama Galore.

    I like the OP's suggestion.

But in today's worlds players won't accept true differences between factions. Pity.

When STO launched, there were only the KDF and Feds. Between the two, it was a very different experience whether you were doing PVE or most esp PVP. Of course, the Feds wanted more and they got it. Now we have Red vs Blue gameplay with no truly distinguishing elements but ship skins.

They're already planning on integrating the factions as much as possible.

    Klingon Sci Captain.
    2x Romulan Tac Officers.
    Nausicaan Eng Officer.
    Talaxian Eng Officer.
    Hierarchy Sci Officer.

Everybody wearing black Kobali armor and looking like Rangers from another IP.

I'm flying the U.S.S. Tong Vey, a Geneva instead of Klinzhai.

    Cause Feds have Reciprocity.

    ^ this

I say that since the launch of the vesta pack that the gorn should provide an end game sci ship for the kdf. The ferasan could offer an escort carrier. A tier 6 garumbu would make many pirates very happy.

Letheans...maybe a new ship type? Maybe a long range weapon ship?

I still remember when the only Universal BOFF station to be found in the entire game was only on the KDF BOP
