-Updated for Delta Rising-

This is supposed to become a central masterlist of all wrong or missing backgrounds for mission dialogue contacts. Hopefully this will become a sticky, and maybe... maayyyybe even tackled soon (TM) by the Devs.

Please post your sightings!

(Very obvious/confusing background errors marked in yellow)

Cross-faction contacts:
Wrong backgrounds:
  • Temporal Ambassador: Upon hailing your ship, Cpt. Walker is displayed in front of a generic Galaxy-style background instead of a Wells class bridge. Engineers Kani/Tum'Era also have no backgrounds at all.
  • Wasteland-Nimbus III Episode: Even as KDF or FED player, all your BOff contacts during any space part of The Undying and Installation 18 are depicted with a Romulan Republic bridge background
  • Night of the Comet: Commodore Ross is shown on a Galaxy-class bridge despite his ship being a TOS Connie. A proper TOS Connie background is already in-game and seen in Past Imperfect.
  • Frozen: Tal Shiar Commander Taak appears in front of a Romulan Republic bridge background (including officers with Republic, and not Tal Shiar, uniforms)
  • Cutting the Cord: During the final space portion, Sela is depicted in front of a Romulan Republic bridge background (including officers with Republic, and not Tal Shiar, uniforms), even though a proper Scimitar-type bridge backdrop is already in the game (seen in Republic Day and others)
  • Where Angels Fear to Tread: Tal Shiar Commander Taelus' first appearance shows her in front of a Romulan Republic bridge background (including officers with Republic, and not Tal Shiar, uniforms)
  • FIXED: Fluid Dynamics: Admiral Tuvok appears in front of a generic Galaxy-style bridge background, not the Voyager-backdrop seen in Surface Tension.
  • Surface Tension: Cpt. Shon appears in front of a wrong (non-Odyssey) bridge backdrop once; Tuvok appears in front of the generic Galaxy-style bridge background (although a Voyager bridge-backdrop is used once, too)
  • All That Glitters: Tuvok is shown with a generic Galaxy-style background instead of the Voyager bridge.
  • Know Your Enemies: Cmdr. Jarok appears in front of a generic Romulan Republic background, not the proper Scimitar backdrop already used during Republic Day.

Missing backgrounds:
  • Deep Space 9: Most NPC contacts (some also falsely have an ESD/Qo'noS background: Security officer, Ship equipment - Dilithium, Ship equipment, Shuttle information)
  • Drozana Station: Ferengi Collector
  • Spectres/The Devidians: None of the player's BOff contacts in space have a background.
  • Breen Invasion: None of the player's BOff contacts in space have a background.
  • The Delta Quadrant storyline: In numerous, if not all occasions, BOff contacts in space have no backgrounds.

KDF contacts:
Wrong backgrounds:
  • FIXED: Loresinger Ch'toh at the Klingon Academy (erroneously copy-pasted from Commander Viala in Starfleet Academy)
  • Grym in the First City has the Earth Spacedock background

Missing backgrounds:
  • Ganalda Station: Most NPC contacts (some also falsely have an Qo'noS background: Ship equipment - Dilithium, Ship equipment, Shuttle information)
  • First City: B'Eta (Dilithium Kill Dailies), Mara (Empire Defense), Loresinger B'Alea, Loresinger Tiran, Romulan ambassador, Fleet ambassador
  • Borg Advance: For none of the missions in this episode, the KDF mission giver, K'rav, has a background

FED contacts:
Wrong backgrounds:

General note: Almost through the entire game (with exception of the tutorial), the default viewscreen frame shown for any space contacts is NOT the one of the Origin bridge, but the generic Galaxy-style one.

  • Most warp-to-sector-block pop-ups show the BOff in front of the generic Galaxy-style background or none at all.
  • Hide and Seek: Most of the player's BOff dialogues are displayed in front of the generic Galaxy-style background, not the Origin bridge.
  • Treasure Trading Station: The final Depart System pop-up shows the player's BOff in front of the generic Galaxy-style background.
  • Doomsday Device: Lt. VanZyl has no background during the space portions of the mission and is erroneously displayed with viewscreen-frames (despite supposedly being on the same ship as the player). During ground portions she is falsely shown in front of the Origin backdrop, which should be a Klingon BoP background. All these inconsistencies make the mission rather confusing for new players. (Sidenote: The cutscene showing Burgess and Quinn still takes place in the Fleet Admiral's old pre-Season 9 office)
  • City on the Edge of Never: Cpt. Thelin is shown with a generic Galaxy-style background, although the USS Kirk is subsequently shown to have an Origin-style bridge.
  • Taris: Cmdr. Jarok and Gaius Sehlan are portrayed on a default Romulan Republic bridge, whereas they should be displayed with a Scimitar-class bridge backdrop; Cmdrs. Xikalen and S'hanclado, as well as Sela, have a Romulan Republic bridge background, featuring bridge officers in Republic uniforms; Cpt. Shon is displayed in front of a generic Galaxy-style bridge backdrop, but should be shown with a Defiant background

Missing backgrounds:
  • Deep Space K-7 & Starbase 39: Most NPC contacts (some also falsely have an ESD background: Security officer, Ship equipment - Dilithium, Ship equipment, Shuttle information)

ROM contacts:
Wrong backgrounds:
  • Commander Charva (Tal Shiar member, "Price of Neutrality" onwards) has a Romulan Republic bridge background, featuring bridge officers in Republic uniforms
  • Commander Janek (Tal Shiar member, "Enemy Action") has a Romulan Republic bridge background, featuring bridge officers in Republic uniforms
Missing backgrounds:

In the new FE both Shon and Tuvok switch back and forth between the default fed galaxy class background and the background meant for their ship (Shon's aquarius bridge BG and Tuvok's Voyager bridge BG), and Tuvok's voyager background, while canon, doesn't match the bridge used in cutscenes, which is one of the stock "intrepid" bridges.

Also, another Tal Shiar agent using a republic bridge background appears in the new "Where Angels Fear To Tread" mission. Those Tal Shiar agents need to stop enslaving Republic officers.

Also, as mentioned in the patch notes, most of the NPCs on NuESD need to be fixed.

Updated the OP. At this point of time I also refrain from adding any background-oopsies occuring on the New ESD and during the (to-be-revamped) Romulan Mystery and Cardassian Struggle FED-episodes.

I hope this gets some Dev attention soon!

In "Night of the Comet", Commodore Ross is on a Galaxy-class bridge despite his ship being a TOS Connie.

The Republic bridge background is seen pretty much every time a Romulan commander is addressed in ship-to-ship communications.

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice this was a necro thread.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

On the contrary! This topic is as ongoing as ever. Actually I just updated the OP a bit. Really hope to catch a Devs eye one day...

Here's a few of my observations that I made after the release of ESD3.0.

these use an ESD backdrop instead of their actual location:
DS9: security officer, romulan ambassador, shuttle information, ship equipment, ship equipment- dilithium
    Qo'nos: romulan ambassador, fleet ambasador,
    Drozana: Ferengi collector
K-7: security officer, ship equipment- dilithium, ship equipment, shuttle information
SB38: security officer, requisition starship dil equipment, ship equipment, shuttle information

    honorable mention:
Ganalda: requisition starship dil equipment, shuttle information(shows pic of Qo'nos station)

Incorporated your findings and then some. Anyone else who noticed wrong or missing dialog contact backgrounds?

I agree and I really hope this posts will get the attention it deserves imo. As of now it does not look like it though...

Anyways, as indicated in the OP, the list has already been updated with some Delta Rising stuff. I call on everyone to post their findings wrt wrong/missing contact backgrounds here, especially pertaining to any of the new content!
