Why didn't we get a branching advancement tree for starship mastery passives?

We could've been given the chance to choose between a tactical/engineering/science focus with a tree of passives to select from for each profession. One of two options for every starship mastery rank. Or multi-spec into two or all three trees, but we still only get four passives to choose from. It'd be like the old reputation trait system where you could pick one of two options at each level. Seems like the freedom of choice would have been nice. A player in a T5-U Kumari might want some damage resistance passives.

You might like the new captain specializations then. You can choose passives to match your style.

first it doesnt fit to let a cruiser have escort passives, also they did this with the specialization trees instead

It should also be noted they specifically said these three are just the launch Specialization trees; there are more to come
    Was named Trek17.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

I don't care about them. I don't care about anything anymore. My life has reached its apex ever since I learned that I can make my D'Deridex do a barrel roll.

Yeah. That is my understanding as well.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

They cannot let you do it because of all the Epohh in the warp core running on the wheel to power the ship. There are millions in there and the blood-bath from all the flipping around and bouncing off each other would short-out the electrical systems. :)
