You know, a lot of this heated (sometimes angry) discussion, could've been alleviated with some actual DETAILS. If we don't know what will happen to Tier 5 ships for THREE WEEKS, this debate will have spiraled completely out of control, to the point of players actively quitting the game. (and yes, that would be bad. Less players, means less potential revenue for Cryptic, and bigger chance of STO being shut down)

Mr D'Angelo: We need details. Not empty assurances. Some of us have been with this game since early Beta. We know from experience, what Cryptic's assurances have led to.

To ensure improvement but not obsoletion to the hard earned ships, I think this should be in place:

-T6 ships being practically upgrades of your T5 ships you already own, with a +10% to all : shield modifier on science ships, hull increased on cruisers, turn rate on escorts, empowering specialization to each type of ship.

-T6 upgrade to C-store ships as well, with same ideas as I wrote upper.

-Fleet ships being upgradeable to "Superior(?)" Fleet ships to match the T6 without inhuman demands.

    - NO mark XIV/XIII rewards on any type of mission except elite stf's in order to keep market balanced and the game running. We can do just fine with quest rewards which are XII, as long as they scale the game right. As they did before.

Why then whats the point of doing tier 6. I swear I think some of you have never played any other MMO before.

By your logic all ships should be the same tier then why wasn't tier 1 upgradeable to tier 5 or any other tier for that matter.

Leave the tiers they way are and offer retrofits for some of them in tier 6, and no they are not free you should have to work for them.

I agree with this If there raising the level cap to 60 then we need tier 6 ships and if they do offer an upgrade why not for every tier?? After all in some way or another we all invested in those ships. But I know the tier 5 ships were the top endgame ship and I spent real money and time to get them where I wanted them. So did I but geuss what there going to be out dated move on and start over I ploan on it.

Here's a real concern I have and yet I havent seen any posts on it. When we get the new level cap are they going to do the same thing they did with the r&d meaning reset everyone back to zero????

Thats what we all should be worried about not the darn ships!!

Tiers 1-3 were never "endgame" ships. They were leveling ships. Tier 4 was considered "endgame" for the first 6 or 9 months of STO's lifetime, before they increased the level cap to 50 (technically 51 at the time) and added Tier 5 ships. The Tier 4's were then upgraded to Tier 5 via the "Retrofit" system: Defiant, Intrepid and Galaxy, each have their own Retrofits as Tier 5. But they began their life in STO, as the then endgame ships of Tier 4.

Now we're facing a new level of endgame (Level 60). Unless the game is moving the story ahead 30-40 years in Delta Rising, there's no logical reason to say our Tier 5's are "outdated". Especially when the game CURRENTLY has only pushed ahead a few months (into 2410) from where it started which was 2409.

Maybe not, but most have enough shame that when the only word is bad they'll just shut up rather than try to spin "raving panic" as "excitement."

Panic actually is a form of excitement.

I'm not sure why people are claiming that it doesn't fit the situation at all.

Science Ships are "competitive" with escorts, but they aren't the same. Competitive isn't a bad word, it just means that while T5 ships will not be made obsolete by T6, T6 will bring some unique mechanic unique to them to make them an interesting alternative to what we already have.
Cryptic doesnt do "interesting alternative" they do full-on powercreep. Vesta is not an alternative to any Fed sci ship, so much as it obsoletes them. Same for Avenger, Patrol Escort, Scimitar, and most of the lockbox ships released in the last 6 months that have leapfrogged over the ships released in the previous quarters.

    T6 will be full-on powercreep

While I'm a few days late learning about what's happening with this impending expansion, I'll admit I'm a little worried about the rise in level cap and what this means for end tier starships. Given Cryptic's track record, I guess you could say I hope to be proven wrong when I feel this will be a massive cash grab that will bleed out my already shaken interest with this game after the removal of exploration zones and an uninviting attempt to renew interest with the crafting scene.

Anyway, let's look at Neverwinter Online and its 'upgrade' policy with its henchmen. There's a lot of henchies in that that are not max rank and in order to max them out a huge amount of that game's version of STO's dilith currency is needed. It was honestly one of the main reasons I haven't got too far in that game. I mean, given all the other things we can spend dilith towards, the possible prospect of spending hundreds of thousands of dilith to upgrade tier 5 ships has me concerned when I have many alts and a horde of ships I would love to upgrade but won't if it's anything like Cryptic's NWO business model. Again, I hope to be proven wrong... but until I learn more this will remain my greatest concern.

On the other hand, if there is hope I can refit my Tier 1 Miranda class with Tier 6 capabilities, consider me a convert. That and recreate the ranking system. It's still universe breaking in my eyes when every bloody player can rise up in the ranks to be a Vice Admiral in the Feds. You'd think ol' Quinn would be getting a little worried now about his job security, unless Starfleet is really that desperate to pass out promotions like hotdogs at a sausage sizzle? Oh, and being able to upgrade bridge officers would be nice, too. That and finally allowing us to remove a certain someone from our bridge officer lists and...

ok so im probably going to be the ONLY person in this entire thread to even be concerned about the true F2P crowd but..

will this mean that there will be a free ship given at level 50 now for a T5 ship/s of some sort so people who dont or cant fork out the price of a full game on a new ship can participate in the new T6 content or will they be left out pretty much since i hear alot about making "T5's competitive with T6" which sounds like T5's will be somewhat behind the power level of a T6 which makes me wonder about the T4's that are the last ship true F2P's can get ( with the exception of being overloaded with EC and in a fleet for a fleet ship)

In answer to that question about free leveing T5 ships, probably not. You have free T5 ships already, that you get at level 40. Those are supposed to be Tier 5 ships.

But it would be nice if they made some of the 2,000 zen ships free, like the Galaxy or Defiant. But they probably won't.

Level 1: You get your Tier 1 ship following graduation from the Academy.
Level 10: You get your Tier 2 ship upon promotion to Lt Commander.
Level 20: You get your Tier 3 ship upon promotion to Commander.
Level 30: You get your Tier 4 ship upon promotion to Captain.
Level 40: You get your Tier 5 ship upon promotion to Rear Admiral Lower Half.

The question here really is, why don't we get anything at 50? The answer (as you stated), is that we get Tier 5 at Level 40. So logical progression, would indicate that we are due for a FREE Tier 6 immediately after Delta Rising launches (for any current player that is Level 50).

Will we get a free Tier 6 at 50? More than likely, no. "Free" stuff, is not in Cryptics vocabulary.

Actually, it is. Cryptic gave away a bunch of free stuff not too long ago. I got a Free Nebula Retrofit, some free costumes, a FREE Obelisk Carrier, FREE Increased Bank Slots, FREE R&D bank slots, hmmmmm should I keep going or will all you negative Nellies stop spreading so much hate and misinformation?

It's really time to end all the utterly pointless speculation, assumptions and lamenting over what hasn't even happened yet.

Hey... heres something crazy: The VA ship tolken for Gold veterans? Will that remain a T5 thing, or will it become a T6 thing instead/new tolken added.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

Honestly, I think we'll still be getting mostly tier 5 ships going forward. Innately tier 6 ships will be uncommon at first, probably slowly gaining percentage in new releases, till eventually it's about 85%ish of all releases(the other 15% being tiers 1-5) for a few years (before we get tier 7 ships?)

I doubt the gold vet token will be changed.

If anyone has any good ideas for the Captain's Table, let Geko know. That is what it says on the Wiki page and I have a few good hard solid suggestions.

    1. Give it all options of the star bases first off. No brainer. As it stands you can do more on Starbases than you can get at the Captain's Table.

    2. It needs several unique features. First of all Dabo tables might be good. I had other ideas.

I would like to see the ability to get GREEN Quality items for Energy credits. I would expect them to be Character Bind on Pickup. Energy credits are more or less easy to swap around. and would save us some time and energy running the same mission a few times to get the items we need like MK iv phaser beam acc, as well as other gear.

Even at mk XII green items are not that extremely powerful.

    3. Maybe a couple extra features. Imagine being able to enter into a special room where you board a small shuttle and can cruise along side your ship and get a size accurate exterior visual tour of the ship in question. Perhaps even do an active docking sequence.

the vice admiral ships like the Odyssey/Vesta and fleet ships to me are tier 6 so were actually are getting tier 7 at level 60?
a lot of those ships are like 5.5 already because the are already superior to the other (level 40) tier 5 anyway.
THE NEW CRAFTING SYSTEM IS TERRA-BAD
First of all it's not even a crafting system! It's just a dumb game system that's nothing more than a glorified slots machine.

    Well, thats not entirely true.

Free stuff turns up far more often than that.

Not sure what the Romulans would get, but I could see people getting the prototype Oddy and Borta (from the anniversary event some years back) at level 50.

IF (and I stress IF) Cryptic decides to give away any freebees for level 50 players, it would make sense to give Romulan players access to either the Oddy or Borta, depending on their alignment. Since these ships are technically "Tier 5+" as opposed to the new top of the line "Tier 6", there should be no issue with this. Currently Romulans can fly allied ships up to Tier 4.

Captain Kurland is so depressed I think he's over eating. His belly is so fat even his Odyssey buckle has gained weight. Go to Ops on DS9 and see for yourself.

Please put Kurland out of his misery in Delta Rising. And make it a Tasha Yar style death.

Captain Kurland: "Kurland here. Stop being mean alien."

    Alien: "No! *pew pew*"

    Kurland: "......"

    Captain Shon: "He's dead!"

    Admiral Tuvok: "Moving on."

Well after reading 27 freakin pages of comments about this....the only thing I can say is that most of the arguments between players seem to be people not realizing they play as a significantly different subset of the player base, which probably generated alot of the argument. <shrug>

In any case since apparently Cryptic is reading these threads and taking input in at least some constructive way here is my 2 cents about Delta Rising.

As a LTS player I expect to get a base version of the expansion for free, I also expect to get a significant discount on whatever the cost is going to be for the "bonus" version of the expansion. <yes this seems to have been totally missed in this thread in all the argument, how much is this expansion going to cost. Something we really wont know till it's almost ready to release probably.>

I expect for everyone that T5 ships will be upgradeable in significant ways, but of course not to complete compatibility with a T6 ship. <I have an Oddy pack, it pains me to say this. I REALLY hope there is some kind of small Zen or Dil cost upgrade option to make at least the main endgame ships from the C-Store equally comparable to a T6 ship.>

I am hoping also that old C-store ships and old favorites get some kind of new life in the new system as I know alot of people like the old ship classes and wish they were made in a way to make them at least competitive in end game content.

And finally.......err WHAT is going to happen to ground combat in this new system?? I know alot of people wish ground content would just die a slow death and go away but I actually do like it as a break from ship combat especially in PvE storyline content. I know most of the death of ground combat seems to be the complication factor especially in PvE endgame rep missions. It seems most people run into these missions and simply run around like chickens with their heads cut off till something ends the mission or they die to much and then they just quit the mission. The notable exception to this being the Dyson Battlezone currently. Maybe because it's still newish and keeping popular, or maybe because the way the ground combat works there it's not had nearly as much of a dieoff as standard ground STF's have.

In any case I think right now i'm in mostly a "wait and see" attitude till something comes out on tribble to actually check out. One thing is for certain right now. I will NOT be spending any ZEN or dil on anything in the game until I see how this new expansion actually affects gameplay.

Why the hell would I, a Romulan, want to fly a formal enemy faction's ship?

I want my own unique ship! We don't even get our own androids!

And people who dislike ground combat, I understand the "why"... but it also raises the question, "why?!"...

If you just want a space sim with no ground content whatsoever with hubs and ship bridges merely being social lobbies why haven't you jumped ship to E.V.E? Because it's not "Star Trek"?

Well, what portion of Star Trek do you see more often than actual ship combat/ point of views? Away teams on ground missions, fights on the bridge, in the ship's hallways!

Instead of wishing a "Slow, painful death" why not ask for improved ground content and combat? D:< I for one love getting off of my ship and seeing my lovely character and boffs... there is just a massive lack of a reason for boffs in ground missions once you hit end game... unless you actually like foundries.

Please whatever you do for upgrades, do not add unremovable cannon weapon slots for the Intrepid Class, like you did for the Dyson C-Store Ship. I really wanted to use that ship for at least the implementation of the Secondary deflector, but hated the inbuilt cannon weapon and boff layout for a dedicated science vessel.

Come the expansion, I will still fly an Intrepid on my main character, a science captain, because the ship is perfect for his build and play style. Come future expansions, I will still fly an Intrepid! Apart from costs, ships can always be rebuilt and upgraded to match new technologies. So please do not make my beloved Intrepid obsolete. I hope you also release the long awaited secondary deflectors this expansion.

    Thanks.

Umm what? The Legacy of New Romulus expansion was completely free and so will Delta Rising. Cryptic has stated in the past that they will never charge for new content. Period. They will charge for new ships and some items and whatnot but that's about it. And even though you can purchase the playable Reman species from the c-store, a ton of us had it unlocked completely free when LoR launched due to having T5 romulan reputation, and even today you can still unlock the species free by maxing out your romulan rep on a single character.

Hopefully we get a way to upgrade our T5 ships for free but at the very least, don't make it expensive.

As a lifetime member I demand nothing. I am entitled to nothing. I can make requests and hope for the best and that's about it.
